The BEP are always "out there" Have you seen any of their videos? All of their recent ones had a theme similar to this performance. That said I like The BEPs music but the sound mixing ruined the show. If I could hear the singing or you know Ushers whole part it wouldn't have been as big of a flop.

I think its unfair to say the BEPs themselves suck if you don't enjoy what they play the show was pretty bad but not because of the BEPs it was just the sound.. I am not a Prince fan but felt that show was great. I think you have to be objective when discussing the quality of the show and take any bias based on musical preference out of it.

even without the sound BEP lacked energy and were totally out-performed by their dancers, their band, AND by Usher.

Very true I am glad SOMEONE can have a criticism that isn't related to how terrible modern music is. I just wish I could have heard Usher =/

Yeah, I thought it sucked and fast forwarded through most of it. They obviously spent a lot of money on it, but that doesn't make it worth my time. I used to watch all the SB commercials but I skipped through a lot of them toward the end. I figure if I miss a great one, I'll catch it later on a Best Of show, WTH. I don't have a lot of patience for car commercials. My fave of all time is the Fedex one with the dinosaurs. I also dig the ones with chimps. :) Spare me the ones with infants talking like adults, duh.

Taking out my extreme hate for what the BEP stands for.

Taking out the fact that I hate BEP style of music, their voices/singing sucked too. Autotune is the devil's handiwork

Lack of energy among song choices for a sporting event

Lack of energy in the singers and just standing there

Sound engineers that make first year sound techs at my college who have never touched a sound board before look competent

Extremely tacky stage for a sporting event

Went on forever, but that might just be a side effect of my extreme hate for the music.

It was miserable. Christina fucked up the words to the Star Spangled Banner and that whore from Glee was aweful, too.

Pretty sure this was the worst Superbowl for music ever. Slash couldn't even save it.

Well the Star Spangled Banner rendition had innovation going for it, it was very very different. I'm sure she couldn't have done it twice in a row sounding very much the same. maybe she was on something.

I thought Keith Urban (is it Keith?) pregame stuff was decent after the first song. His guitar sizzled. They called it country, but I wouldn't.

I would rather listen to Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend shit explosive diarrhea into a paint can than listen to the Black Eyed Peas on their very best day.
That goes for me too :'(

The sound was terrible.

Fergie looked hot though and I don't think they were lip synching...much.
How can they fuck up the audio that badly? There's hundreds of millions of people out there and they can't bother to do a decent job on the audio. All they have to do is have a mixing board and a reasonably astute audio guy with headphones and sliders and it would be reasonably acceptable. Sheesh. o_O

I'm glad it sounded good in person but the point isn't to put on a good show for the attendees, that is just a bonus for you. The point is to put on a good show for the 100 million or so viewers they want to keep tuned in. It's all about advertising.

There's 2000 times as many watching on TV as in person, you have to think of them.

The problem wasnt their music IMO, it was the fact that they didnt do anything more than stand around. Usher's performance out shadowed them big time. When Prince did it, it ran around all over with a different setup.

Although a bit creepy...since most of the (original) band is dead...

They could bring out an airplane prop and the band members could wear snake outfits and (you got it!) dance on the plane while singing that song about Alabama. ;)

There was music during the half-time show? I must have missed that part.

Prince is an artist. BEP are a media collective.
