Okay, so Metallica isn't the same band anymore. I think I would rather see them perform today than whatever the hell that was yesterday.

Amen. Even my Dad knows some Metallica songs. They're metal, but they're mainstream enough now to still be halftimeshowworthy. Make it so.

I thought there was something wrong with my TV setting. I kept changing the "E.Mode" on my remote to try to get better sound. It sounded a little better on Cinema mode for me. I have the same problem when watching the live performance part on SNL, the musics sound terrible and weak. I wonder if anyone else experiences that.

There will never be a musical performer during halftime that everyone will appreciate or even tolerate.

Yes, but even if only 5% of people appreciate it, it will be a step in the right direction.

They should get Red Hot Chili Peppers to play it. THAT would be fun.

RHCP would be good, Muse would be good...not Weezer, not Linkin Park....Foo Fighters would also work...

lol they most certainly would not. maybe 15-20 years ago, yeah, but not now.

They most certainly would. This whole notion that Metallica is not the band they used to be does not apply here. We're talking a superbowl halftime show. We're not discussing if you would buy their newest album.

they would play dogshit from their latest albums. they'd play like a couple snippets from a couple of their real songs, and that's about it. james hetfield's voice is a lot different than it was back in the day, lars's drums sound like he's playing on large rubber balls, and their bassist is a giant tool. i wouldn't wanna see them without jason newstead on stage.

metallica used to be my favorite band ever back in the day. they're just horrible now. even if they played their older songs, they'd still sound awful. they're just not the band they were before and i'm totally fine with that. voices and sounds change over time to where you can't sound the way you used to... no one can be aerosmith.

Since if the NFL wants to draw younger crowds for the superbowl; with either taylor swift or justin bieber, they will certainly draw the younger generation, or pepsi max called the next generation. :)

horrible idea. they will lose almost all viewership until the 3rd quarter started if that were to happen.

So what? Do you think the average joe cares if Newstead is playing? I realize you're down on Metallica today, but they would be awesome at the halftime show.

I think the show would have been a lot better if the sound engineers knew what they were doing. They didn't have the music miced for the TV broadcast-only the singers. They were depending on the singers mics to broadcast the music. Therefore, all you heard was singing and AM radio quality music.

That sound engineer probably got hung by his balls.

Yep, I've discovered in the last five years that, the halftime show is improved immensely by turning off the sound.

I thought it was bad in an awesome way. I think that perhaps horrible halftime shows should be part of every superbowl from now on... it can become a tradition just like funny commercials.

You do watch the super bowl every year, right? Horrible halftime shows have been a tradition for a very long time. Every year they pick a band either way past their prime, one that doesn't really fit with the football "style", or both. They're always flashy, but sound terrible.
