Pig bastards. Apparently, one of my call metrics is slipping. I've been in what they call the "academy" to get my wrap time down. It's the time that a CSR takes after the call is disconnected to finish up notes and save the ticket or whatnot. Mine's been a little high sitting at 1 minute 44 seconds on average instead of 45 seconds. The problem is that I finish the ticket and forget to leave the "wrap" mode on my phone in order to become ready to take another call. So they sit about a dozen or so of us together and call it an "academy" so they can have supervisors walking around answering questions and providing general help. Well sh|t I just keep forgetting to bring myself out of "wrap" and into "ready" because I get lost in the nice silence after each call.

So I get called in to a manager's cube today. Yes, a manager's cube. More than one manager exists and they each have reign over us all. He says that he's sent out emails saying that the schedule that you're supposed to have for the academy is Sunday - Thursday 9a-6p and that he's sent out emails saying such. My email box has been having problems. I hadn't been able to send mail for about a month prior to a few weeks ago when it somehow fixed itself or something. So I tell him this and that I might not have been getting the emails per mailbox problems that IT hasn't seemed to fix yet (I hate LotusNotes). He then accuses me of not wanting to work the scheduled shift and that I'm just sluffing my duties as a technician. :Q WTF. I then told him that I have plans on Sundays and that Sundays are a problem but since he and I both know that this place gives it's employees the choice of working the schedule that they assign or get fired, that I have no problem changing my schedule. Then he said something to the effect of "well, that's true. I'm glad you see it my way."

But... the schedule change went into effect this week and I didn't show up Sunday or Monday. One single no-call & no-show is grounds for immediate termination - and he THREATENS me with it. :Q I told him that I didn't get the emails and that some come through, some don't and that some show up days after they're listed as sent. I dunno WTF is going on but my job is in jeopardy because of this EFFING LotusNotes and possible Oracle problem. He told me to go check and, guess what... there's an email sitting in my inbox dated LAST WEEK that's notifying us of the change. Hell, I checked my mail THIS MORNING and didn't have it. And there's no way for me to prove that this is a problem!!! :| That and the manager is a prick. He said that he'll consider whether or not to give me the attendance points or just fire me. :Q

IT'S NOT MY FSCKING PROBLEM!! I CHECK MY GODDAMN MAIL EVERY DAY !!

I dunno what to do. I've been fscked over by this goddamn company too many times but it's hard to find a job paying what this does in today's market here in Oregon.

Take your stapler and burn down the building. This is clearly the solution.

Seriously: that officially sucks. My bro is dealing with the same brand of idiot management working as an engineer in the auto industry.

That sucks Nik..
If it were me I would be tempted to hit the road but, you are right, jobs are that plentiful at the moment...
Can you go above him and explain the situation if he continues to be an arse about it?
Good Luck....I hope everything works out for you.

If I get fired, it will go up because I'll be sitting at home posting on AT while filling out legal forms to send to my lawyer. The details are too specific for me to fill in right now but this place outright breaks the law - and I'll get fired because of it.

Are you using a local replica of your mailbox and not replicating it frequently enough? That's about the only thing that comes to my mind right away...yeah, Notes is not as intuitive as most of the email programs out there, but it's darned stable unless your admin guy screwed up something big on your mail server...

my phone started going to "aftercall" by itself 3 weeks ago and i'm still not used to it... combind with the fact that when i am available i don't get calls and i'll sit in aftercall for 15 minutes before i look at the phone and realize thats the reason i'm not getting calls. it sucks.

That sounds like a seriously Dilbert principle enforced job...

I sure as hell couldn't work in that type of an environment...

No. His manager, our Service Delivery Manager, is just below the site director. The site director is a VERY nice guy, but he doesn't have time nor is he willing to sit and listen to "domestic disputes" and the SDM is a FSCKING TOOL (read: this last manager x10)

Sorry to hear that!

I would be angry too.

Hope they don't fire you!

If they do, sue 'em!

He's going to "conference" with her to talk about the attendance. I can only hope that she can talk him down.

I seriously considered moving down there, but I didn't have a job. Hell, if you could guarantee me a job that paid enough to live, I'm SO OUTTA HERE. :D I "severely dislike" Oregon.

If they do, I'll see what I can do. Doubtful that I can do anything, but I would LOVE to bring down this hellhole. Either that or force them to treat their employees DECENTLY from now on.

Keep your head up.

A couple things to consider. It is VERY hard to win an EEOC right to sue letter. Only 15 of 100 are issued. If you do win the right to sue, even if you are only suing for a right to work (ie. get your old job back) most lawyers won't take it. There is no money in it. Also, if you are a white male it is even harder to get representation let alone win in front of a jury. That is fact.

The main thing is to keep EVERYTHING on paper (e-mail) that you can get your hands on to back up your story. If you get fired they are going to deny your unemployment benefits for refusing work and "insubordination". You will need evidence to back your side up to win the funds. You must keep your cool at all times...no matter what happens.

The last thing ANY company wants is to have their e-mail subpaeoned (sp?). There is much evil in a corporations e-mail and they know it. This is always your trump card.

As long as you are getting your paycheck, you win. Start looking elsewhere now. When you have to answer the question.."Have you ever been fired from a job ?"...yes...it gets tuff to find the good jobs.

2 cents from life experience.

I'll never understand a business that mistreats employees. How stupid are these people in charge. If the employees are unhappy business suffers. Keep the employees happy and they will keep the customers happy.

Man, I feel for you. Being a Call Center CSR sucks. If I were you I'd find another job, ANY job... and fast. I've had friends get burned out working in Call Centers. It's not worth it.

Our Notes Mail works absolutely fine. I think it's a mail administration/administrator problem on your end. We've had no problems receiving emails - ever. I hate Notes as much as you may, but I would rather have it than the virus-ridden Exchange/Outlook combination. Wouldn't you?
