I have wrestled a 240lbs Irish Wolfhound.

I understand they are strong, not doubting that. I am saying, in a life or death situation, I would win.

in the hood is where a lot of the rescues come from and they are trained to be guard dogs hence they are violent. it's just a fact.

You're just fixating on training and ignoring breed.

When getting a dog for a task training and breed are important.

You dont get a yorkie and train it up for herding sheep. You pick a dog breed for that then train it up.

In the same way that if you want to get something that bites things to death you get a breed thats made for that and train it up.

I'd way rather wrestle a wolfhound.

Sighthounds are no where near as strong as the big fighting terriers.

I understand. I was simply answering the question that was asked. I have never been in a "fight" with a dog, but I wouldn't lose. Not saying I wouldn't get away unscathed, but I would certainly still be breathing.

I think lots of people feel like they could handle themselves when confronted by a vicious dog, but I have a feeling they wouldn't fare much better than the woman this thread was referencing. A couple of years ago a very fit man, triathlete, got attacked by a cane corso (another breed that should be kept by nobody) on the same trail I run on and he just got away with his life by jumping into a nearly freezing river. Of course the same old story came out afterwards. "He was such a sweet dog. I don't know what provoked him". I know for a fact that there are good pit bulls out there. Still, I wouldn't take the chance. Especially if there are kids around. You might come away alive but you won't come away un-maimed.

It's really not even about a Pitbull attack really, it's more like a "trusted" pet surprising you out of nowhere and going on a rampage.

They have a history of that type of behavior, unlike many other breeds of dogs in that category.

A pissed off Pit Bull probably would not give a shit if you parked a hydraulic hammer on it's head to be honest, after you gauged it's eyes or until it was dead.
