I'm not debating that dogs are great but working dogs need to work off their inbuilt energy or they get a bit squirrelly. You dont want a pit getting squirrelly.

Puppies are good also in that you get to avoid any behavioral problems that might have got imprinted but you dont get to vet the parents which has a BIG impact on what the dog is going to grow up into.

i agree. i am lucky in that i live a block from my office and the office is dog friendly. also live 3 blocks from a dog run, so this dog will get plenty of walks and exercise and socialization as i can just hop over and walk him anytime.

So what youre saying is that you have no experience of either situation?

Has anyone ever tried to kill me with a car? Is that what you're asking? Please clarify.

We are having a discussion.
Between your "Ragh! I SHALL KILL ALL THE DOGS!!! What? No, Ive never met one. BUT I SHALL KILL THEM ALL!!!"

I am truly sorry that's how you read my posts.

It's too bad you mistake my confidence in survival for extreme rage and caveman talk. You may disagree with me, but you don't have to make yourself look like a fool by blatantly misunderstanding what I am saying.

And me thats been in a dog bite suit against dogs that would lose badly against a pit bull.

You don't have any mobility in a bite suit, every knows this.

i asked him to clarify his statement. he didn't.

no idea how you reach your conclusions, but it ain't with logic.

and in a fight between a vicious dog and the dude who thinks he can manhandle a 75lb attack dog, i put my money on the dog.

I wouldn't put much worth or thought into what MonGrel says...

And you'd be out some money if you bet on the dog. :)

Why can people never even spell my name right to begin with.

It used to be Mr Grel to many people I would get from games in the past when they would be polite and knew as much ...

It's the g followed by the G that does it.

Have you been in a situation where a pit was trying to kill you either?

So you're not saying that theres no way that you'd lose to an animal that you have no experience of in a fight?

Either you are very bad at explaining your position or your keyboards broken.

You don't have any mobility in a bite suit, every knows this.

Ah! So your plan is to outrun the dog? This is getting better and better.

You don't answer a question with a question, it's in poor taste, and it makes you look "defensive"

I am saying I don't go all caveman and KILL ALL DOGS!!! RARG! I have simply said that I would come out on top. I don't believe I have even once been aggressive about this either. I am confident I would win.

Ah! So your plan is to outrun the dog? This is getting better and better.

Not sure where you got this from...maybe my Canadian accent?

Anyways, your feeble attempts to make me look like an idiot are actually making you look more and more like an angry child. Not once have I twisted your words, or put words in your mouth. But hey, whet ever gets you to sleep, right?

That's hard core.

Nobody climbed down from that roof to come save him from his womanly screams.

Hey, I said I would come out of the fight victorious....I never said I would ever go looking to fight a dog...or any other animal for that matter.

Fair enough. Isn't that what you just did?

So what makes you confident that you would win? And why that would be relevant to the wider population?

I'm just trying to salvage something for you as you seem to have no idea what you're talking about.

Anyways, your feeble attempts to make me look like an idiot are actually making you look more and more like an angry child. Not once have I twisted your words, or put words in your mouth. But hey, whet ever gets you to sleep, right?

Hey, I'm not making any effort to make you look like an idiot, its not like I need to.

True, I did, but I was asking for clarification to the question you had asked.

So what makes you confident that you would win? And why that would be relevant to the wider population?

I have a strong will to survive....how do you explain confidence? I don't understand what your asking in the second part of the question.

I'm just trying to salvage something for you as you seem to have no idea what you're talking about.

Seriously, I really want to know at which point you thought I said anything about running away?

Hey, I'm not making any effort to make you look like an idiot, its not like I need to.

So just to be clear here, having the confidence that a 75lbs or less, animal would not be able to take my life in a life or death situation makes me an idiot? Those with self confidence are idiots? C'mon, even you can't believe that.

You needed extra help for that question?

Do you have more experience for someone trying to kill you with a car or with a pit bull?

Ah! So this is a truthiness thing that has no relation to the real world then?

Also the bit about the second part is pretty much where you stepped in, do try to keep up.

Seriously, I really want to know at which point you thought I said anything about running away?

Seriously, I'd like to know why your so confident that you'd win.

People with self confidence and an absolute belief in an outcome without any experience of the situation are idiots, yes.

I spent years reading meters for the electric utility here, encountered more dogs than I want to think about, having to often go into their yards. Yet this conversation seems..... a bit weird to me.

I've encountered many pitts, and had some that were aggressive. Seem to have survived. Are you guys just talking about the worst case situation?

I'll agree that they are very strong and very capable of causing lots of damage or death.

We've been on a small dog kick for the last 15 years, used to have rotties. If we ever get another largish dog it will be a standard bred poodle. Great for allergies, they shed very little.
On topic, any large powerful breed can be a liability. Our first rott was great, but the second one was off from the start. he was a comparative handful.
When I took the first one to protection training, I spent some time suited up and in an arm sleeve. No pits there, but the scariest dog was a big shepherd. he was insanely fast and it felt like somebody was hitting your arm with a chunk of 2x4. He two-chopped me and got up above the sleeve for blood. That was a wakeup call!

As soon as my wife's cats die, I will be getting a Rottweiler. I have always loved that breed of dog. I have been passively looking around for the last little while, but it seems the websites for breeders in my area aren't kept up to date. I would like a puppy, not a rescue.

Honestly, no it isn't. I'm not saying this specific breed has been. Never owned one and don't know. But we've been breeding animals for specific traits for millennia now, and if you think those traits don't include character, aggression, attitude, etc., try telling that to a breeder of racing horses or hunting dogs.

For what it's worth, reputable pitbull breeders will breed out human aggression.

I'd give you some advice if you weren't such an arse. Rotts are the ones I spent years training.
