Galveston county TX just eliminated their last minority represented district with the stoke of a pen. You should be concerned about that.

A 10 year old girl in Utah killed herself due to racial bullying. The parents complained to teachers and administrators and were ignored. DOJ a few week prior issued a study Utah districts were ignoring racism in their midst. I guess they were too busy looking for that non existent CRT to care.

Well, because I was being lazy, I left off the horrible gerrymandering prevalent in most states. The GOP made a very serious and concerted effort to win majorities in state house and state senate chambers - the democrats were too slow to respond so reversing this will be a bitch. We are likely stuck with the current state of affairs for a long time to come.

So if I understand SCOTUS correctly, they're saying the lower court in Wisconsin did not adequately consider applicability of the Voting Rights Act to the governor's proposed maps. The same VRA that they've refused to enforce and allowed states to gut is now suddenly invoked in a Hail Mary by Republicans and BOOM...maps denied??? Interesting...

I think this Court would find a re-imposition of selective poll taxes to be perfectly fine and dandy proposition, just as long as they were labelled a "fee" rather than a tax.

Might as well have this 6 person Divine Supreme Court-Legislature take over the rest of the federal budget & directly coordinate with the Joint Chiefs.

I mean, they already rewrite domestic policy, foreign policy, and the nations laws into the vision of their gods ~ might as well go all the way.

It was not that they were ignoring the VRA, instead, were actually following the clear text and intent of the VRA - which has been found now to be immediately reversible without hearing.

Even considering the plain language of the VRA when forming maps is now presumptively illegal, according to this Court. Which follows as an extension from their prior rulings finding almost all of the VRA to null and void.

And justices get defensive when people question the legitimacy of this court. A fucking ruling on the merits without argument that further guts the VRA. Of course this is the same court that has flat out refused to enforce its own precedent while litigation is underway in the Texas abortion case. I wasn't a fan of court packing before but if the possibility presents itself it might be the only way.

Also Wisconsin is an insanely gerrymandered state where the GOP gets a supermajority of seats by losing the statewide popular vote. If that doesn't call into question the legitimacy of a democracy I don't know what does.

My favorite part is when they denied a Democratic lawsuit about Alabama potentially committing a VRA violation in January, saying it was too close to the election, only in March to decide that two months later in March there’s plenty of time to fix a potential Democratic VRA violation.
