Thanks for the MD5 hash. I was wondering why Vista would reboot right after initializing setup. I thought it was my hardware or something... apparently in my case FlashGet (with 10 sections) didn't work very well :(

PirateBay isn't very responsive for me, but can you confirm they have an x64 torrent? I hadn't found it out anywhere else

Well I know of an x64 torrent that was on piratebay that has existed since May 23rd. I tried downloading on the 23rd, and it was decently fast. ~40 - 50 kbps which is very good considering everyone is flocking to get it. But I do have MSDN so I just went ahead and downloaded my own copy. I haven't checked on the torrent still, but I hear it's still good.

x64 version is for the cool peepz =)

Had it up and running last night. I'm impressed by some of the changes, such as the new explorer, which is fantastic, but the aero glass interface is nothing special. It's very subtle, and hard as hell to tell which is the active window.

How did the install go? I am installing it now on a seperate partition and it is taking forever!

It looks like it is about 1\3 done and is just sitting there for about 30 min. How long did it take you?

I am running a 3000+ with 1GB of ram and the dvd-rom is 4x :(

ooooook.....

it sat at 1\3 done for ~2hrs so i hardboot expecting it to come back and reinstall on reboot like XP does if you cancel it part way through.... well thats not exactly what happened.

when it rebooted it gave me dual boot option so i chose "microsoft windows" not "older version of windows" or whatever it was... and IT LOADED!!

so far i dont seem to be having any problems.. yet it never "finished" installing... very odd.

i will keep you updated.

Many of us still remember the nightmare that Creative made with Windows 2000. IIRC when they finally did release official Win2k drivers they were not made available for download, they wanted 15 bucks or so for a CD.

No idea how long it took. I set it to install, went out to dinner, came back a few hours later and it was ready and waiting to go, dual boot perfectly working.

It is definitely going to be an upgrade over xp, but it is not in a 100% usable state right now - its slow and buggy.

Its just something to toy around with now...don't get your hopes up about using it 24/7.

And as much as I hate creative, cut them a break. You want 64-bit drivers for a beta OS - thats a hard sell right now almost a year before it actually comes out. If they don't have drivers at launch, then commence crying.

They're one of the largest vendors of sound card manufacturers in the world. Don't tell me they can't delegate a few people to driver support for a Public Beta like Vista.

Creative has enough trouble keeping their software & drivers decent for released OSes, to say nothing of Beta's. Don't hold your breath

I just finished installing and setting up the Vista 64-bit version. Installation when smoothly over a previous windows installation. They saved all the old data that I had on the hard drive.

I installed Half-Life 2 Episode 1. I can't seem to get the audio to work with it. The audio works for audio and video files, just not Half-Life. Maybe i'll try another game later to see if it works.

They are also a virtual monopoly...what are you going to do, use someone else's cards? Wait..there aren't any!

They sure can, but until they have to, they won't. Like I said, I share your hatred of creative, but what can we do about it when they are the only legit consumer sound card maker left? NVIDIA for a while looked like it might be that company with the soundstorm, but they dropped it.

Probably because they realize that if creative knows how to do one thing well, its sue other companies. As soon as another company has the balls to legitimately challenge them, then their drivers will get better, fast. If they don't get frivolously sued out of business before that. (oh aureal how I miss thee)

Creative is by no means a monopoly, they're just huge.

There are plenty of other cards that offer good sound quality, its just Creative happens to make the only gaming oriented ones that I know of. There are a lot of other sound cards with better sound quality (from what I'm told), more oriented towards music.

Well, thats why I said "virtual" monopoly. Other companies make cards, but for consumer oriented audio, creative is the one and only emperor of the realm., and we are all the worse off for it. PC audio is stagnant beyond words.
