I wish title bar text was still centered by default, as it was in Windows 8.

That appeared when I tried to save an edit to my post. I lost the edit and had to start over again.

A word to the wise

one thing no longer works, and I could have possibly prevented it's breakage beforehand: KeePass (the password keeper). This isn't really even related to Win10 in any way - this could have happened with any rebuild.

I had configured my KeePass db to use Windows User Account as the master key. Since I upgraded to Win10 by first partitioning my HDD, then rebuilding from the ground up, all my old Win7 user ID's got blown away. Now, even though my user accts are named the same, something isn't matching up - KeePass doesn't recognize me. So while I have my KeePass db, I have no way to get into it.

It's probably not the biggest deal in the world, but it's still going to cause some pain

Might not be related as I use KeyPass 2 and a password as the master key, but it works great in Win10.

For some reason, it started treating my wired home network as a public network and that's what killed Remote Desktop access for me.

Same thing happened to me. Luckily fixing it is just a couple of clicks compared to all the hoops one had to jump through to fix it in 7.

Yeah - the problem isn't the app... it's the fact that I chose to use Windows User Account to access the KeePass database in Win7, then years later wiped the Win7 installation. Those user accounts are now gone forever, so the db is inaccessible.

Wow. So because I questioned how an extra click was such a hardship it makes my reply "idiotic"?

Asshole much?

He made an observation that had a useful point. Your reply was pointless and only served to discourage such replies. Just shut up.

I didn't say it was "such a hardship."

Should I refrain from pointing out such things with Windows 10? Are you some kind of Win10 white knight?

Such observations must be made by someone if there's any hope of the user experience being refined.

Compared to Windows 7/8, Windows 10 takes an extra click to connect to VPN. Lame.
Oh wow...an extra click...such a hardship.

[We're] making constructive observations of areas that can be [improved].

If we try hard enough, I sure we can get Microsoft to add even more unneeded clicks / taps and a whole lot more mouse / hand travel distance too.

Damn all those handicap people with clunky alternative input devices! Let's make everything as inaccessible as possible!
One extra click makes things inaccessible?

Over exaggerate much?

It was a hyperbolic reply to your idiotic reply. I really hoped you were being facetious.

You want to suppress criticisms for minor issues so they won't be acknowledged or improved? OK then.

Wow. So because I questioned how an extra click was such a hardship it makes my reply "idiotic"?

My first thought when I read your post was: "Really? What's with this guy?"

Before my hyperbolic sarcasm, you were the first to imply that I thought it was such a "hardship." However, if you consider handicapped people with disabilities that require alternative input devices, increased mouse travel distance is significantly more problematic for them.

I shouldn't point out any impact on user experience in this thread. Lesson learned!

You implied it.

Don't care. But I will continue respond at my leisure if you so choose not to.

Are you some kind of Win10 white knight?

Nope.

Asshole much?

Yep.

Ask me if I care.

I inferred what you implied.

Okay. Good to know.

He stated matter-of-factly that it was an extra click without implying anything more.

Though minor, it's a needless change and worth pointing out. "Number of clicks" is often used to measure how accessible or obfuscated a desired operation is. Generally, the more refined the user experience, the fewer clicks it takes to do the same things. If mostly everything takes more clicks then it adds up to a serious regression. Duh.

Gentlemen can we please keep it cordial in this thread so it doesn't get locked? We all have differing opinions of 10, however we can express ourselves without resorting to personal attacks on each other and wreck the thread.

Well... after a lot of issues I've gone back to Win7. My system seemed about 90% stable on Win10, but still got the occassional BSOD. The final straw for me was last night - the pc began locking up repeatedly, fixable only by reboot. After each reboot I would get about 2-3 minutes of uptime, followed by another BSOD. Sometimes the pc would show MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION, sometimes not.

So I tried to do a rollback to a restore point... no luck. I finally decided to reinstall Win10 from scratch, this time without upgrading from a clean Win7 installation. No luck, the installer crashed. Hoping this was just bad luck, I did it again; it still crashed. At this point, I was truly afraid that I had some sort of hardware failure.

So I repartitioned my HDD and put Win7 back on. The pc seems incredibly happy to have it back - no problems at all so far. Boo. I wanted Win10. My pc is 4-5 years old, so I guess there is something that just isn't compatible.

Anybody that has done the upgrade can get a bit of space back.

I run the usual disk clean up and old system files which removes your old Windows(around 30GB), however you still have a $Windows.~WS folder in your c: directory, deleting that I got another 6GB back.

Info and guide here for that http://www.thewindowsclub.com/delete-windows-bt-ws-folders-windows-10 .

Thanks, just did that on the desktop and the laptop. On my tiny SSD's it makes a difference.

My Windows.old\Users\[my username]\ folder is 4GB. Better find out what's in there...

Surprised it didn't just re-use the existing \Users\[username]\ folder after the upgrade.

I'm having an annoying issue in Win 10 with my Logitech g510 keyboard. The keyboard has a volume knob to turn the volume up and down. When I use it, the screen flashes and I hear a beep for 4-5 seconds. It causes games to crash and renders the desktop unusable during this period....very annoying!

Does the keyboard have its own software for an on-screen display (OSD)?

As Ichinisan mentioned, I would remove the Logitech software (or at least update it if they have a newer version for 10) since Windows 10 comes with it's own OSD for volume.

Edit: Logitech is showing an updated Windows 10 driver.

I originally had issues with the logitech gaming software before I clean installed 8.1 then upgraded with a non corrupt registry. You probably should uninstall it, reboot, then reinstall it and see if the problem persists. You could also try moving your kb to another usb port and see if it clears up. I also had an issue with my mouse receiver that had been on the same usb port for a long time and once I moved it to another port the problem cleared up.

Three done, one left to go. Pretty painless so far. All have been in-place upgrades and the last will be too. I've only had issues with our printer on all three so far. I've just uninstalled it, and installed the latest drivers from HP to get it showing up clean in Device Manager. There might have been other options, but that's the path I chose.

My cheapo Toshiba laptop I did this morning. I initially had a ton of disk activity and a lot of CPU usage but everything has settled down. I noticed on both the laptops that it took a while to get them into a happy state. My desktop has more horsepower so maybe that led to me not noticing the same behavior with it.

I see that Toshiba is supporting my laptop with a bunch of drivers so I may install those at a later date. My wife's Toshiba lappy that she only uses when we travel is not supported. At least not at this time. On both I had to install synaptic drivers that I found at the Toshiba site to get the scrolling working. Just remembered that. Printer on all three, synaptic on the two laptops.

It broke my computer. My system is locked in an endless loop, it won't boot from anything, flash drive or disk. I installed Win 10 fine, then after a few days use I had to restart my PC, and it entered an repeating blue screen loop "your pc has encountered an error and needs to restart" cache error. It won't even get to the repair/recovery anymore.

I am irritated because I've tried everything I can think of. No Win 10 for me.

Have you tried booting off the dvd and using the repair utility on it?
