I'm not so fond of the police, they are a necessary evil, but a lot of people like them for some reason.

Every person that gives a fuck about the police is an idiot. They are cancer just like Republicans.

This is not true - the police are super important. They just need to be held accountable.
That's exactly what I mean, but it seems they are rarely ever going to be held accountable, so until they are, I don't give a single fuck what they want.

Wright comes from a police family.....when your parents are cops and are the breadwinners of the family, their cop salary goes to your upbringing and education, you should appreciate them

Police are a necessary evil, unless you want vigilantism...

Police are necessary but they don't have to be evil. Many of them choose to do evil and many more choose to look the other way, also evil.

Then we have no business hiring them as police officers.
True, but the culture has to change and hard-headed conservative-leaning white people in the force and their political allies in legislatures don't want to see changes or implement it, and progressive rhetoric like "abolish" and "defund" doesn't get anywhere

It's either necessary evil or vigilantism/anarchy, which a lot of angry white men would certainly and delightedly would love to dish out

This country is already armed to the teeth, without police, vigilantes will kill whoever, even if it is "racially motivated", will they be arrested? By whom if there's no cops? Right-leaning Sheriffs? The US Marshals?

Nobody gives a fuck what they "think" or feel or believe.
You should, because they are the arm/muscle of local governments, they can use force, even chokeholds (See: Eric Garner, George Floyd, Anthony Baez)

To citizens that have committed no crime? There’s instances like that every day.
Stop and frisk, yes.

Commissioners Kerik, Kelly, Kelleher, and a lot of middle class white people, even in moderate/establishment Democrats in cities like Chicago and NYC feel that stop and frisk "saves minority lives" even if they don't realize or appreciate it, because it takes away "illegal guns".

All those police chiefs learned it from criminologist James Wilson, the founder of Broken Windows/stop and frisk policy...

Oh yes, violating people's civil rights is a great strategy....

What you are describing is actually over policing and a way to oppress minority groups.

I’m not talking about Stop& Frisk, I’m talking about violating people’s rights for no lawful reason.

Yes, because a lot of people feel that minorities commit a large share of crime in those areas, so the police overpolice....

Bless your heart
I don't approve of stop and frisk, but you have to admit poorer areas have crime, and in cities, that is minority male-driven...it annoys the middle class of the city, and they vote in people like Giuliani to put people like Bratton, Kerik and Kelleher to push for those police tactics, that will yes, violate civil rights at the expense of keeping Yankees and Mets and Knicks fans safe to go to the games...

The state has a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence, not any use of violence. A lot of the "use of force" police employ against people is arguably and definitively too much, and would certainly not fall under a category of "legitimate".

Why are you so against police having some form of oversight? Having some professional standards would be a good thing for them to help them earn that respect you think they are so deserving of.

People being profoundly ignorant doesn't mean the policies you've described are in any way good or actually effective. That's the problem, the policies you've described (but claim to not approve of even though you keep bringing them up) DON"T FUCKING WORK.

I am for police oversight, I have been for years. However, I realize there are a vast majority of people in this country (middle class to low income white people and middle class Latinos) that don't feel the need for oversight, they have the ears of the police union, the politicians.

It's hard to tell that you're for that oversight with all the boot licking you've been doing in this thread.
