The single biggest problem New York City has is a lack of housing because demand is insanely higher than supply. Rents have only gone up post COVID and are breaking records. So this has nothing to do with demand to live in New York City. People want to live there and there are jobs where people want to live and companies like when talented people like to live somewhere. But the cost of housing must go down that's New York city's biggest problem, Not a Democratic mayor.

Adams is a shit mayor because he's basically a Republican. New York City can't have a very far left mayor but they certainly need a democratic mayor someone who empathizes with the problems of people. Republicans have no empathy and their only solution is to throw people in jail.

They will cut mass transit and all services, including education, like Adams. They will only invest in the wealthiest.

The biggest issue in New York is the cost of living driven by housing prices and rents. Including commercial.
Then why do Republicans win in places like Staten Island and Queens, places with poor and working class white firefighters, etc.?

Because they appeal to racism and bigotry. Do you know anything about the political environment in America?

Our former president LBJ put it quite well "I'll tell you what's at the bottom of it," he said. "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

That's how the Republicans win with lower economic groups. Racism against minorities, bigotry against homosexuals, sexism against women. Republican economic policies only hurt the middle and lower classes dramatically. But LBJ put a quite well how to win their votes.

I think a lot of them don't like crime either. That's why they voted for Giuliani, Bloomberg and Lhota.

If Lhota had won, Lhota would have continued Bloomberg's crime decrease.

If you look at the crime statistics they continued to go down under de Blasio. Your point makes zero sense. New York was continuing to grow in its heyday. Reality just does not agree with your biased view. Republicans have been playing this race and bigotry and hatred card for decades now it's nothing new.

I mean LBJ called it out a long time ago dude.

I think it's time you learn what the Republican party is all about.

Yes, crime was down from 1991 to 2020, that is a fact....it went down even more under de Blasio, but he did not get along with the cops, the first mayor to have a heated relationship with cops since David Dinkins...that's why Adams was elected, because he has better relationships with cops.

Well I'm glad you agree crime went down under de Blasio. This completely disproves your point about electing an actual Democrat to office in regards to crime.

Crime did go up under COVID but as we both know that's an outlier. A once a century pandemic. But it still was better than most major cities and Adams played that up. He did the traditional republican playbook, use fear to win without having a platform that benefits the people.
Exactly what Adams has shown us he is, a Republican in Democrat clothing.

I don't think Adams has a good relationship with the cops by the way. I'm pretty sure even though he was a cop they didn't like him.

And he has turned out to be a shitty mayor as we on the left predicted.

Cops like Koch and Giuliani and the young cops are more Trumpian......cops want a mayor who has their back, like Giuliani.

Adams is a moderate.

Adams is an idiot and conservative. Official party doesn't matter as much at the local level, especially when there is one highly dominant party. Thus, you see the real contest play out in primaries between conservatives and more liberal candidates.

And cops just want someone who won't provide any real oversight, so they can continue to act out their Judge Dredd fantasies.

Turns out the highest vacancy rates for offices are in Dallas, Houston & Texas. I think we should send Adams there to be their mayor and fix their issues.

"Developers have built far too much, and now office vacancies are higher in Texas’ major metros than they are in coastal cities like New York and San Francisco.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Houston, Dallas and Austin top the list of major U.S. cities with the highest office vacancy rates."

If he was conservative, as a black cop he would not have created the 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Cares, trying to change the culture with white cops and black civilians...

He's a Brooklyn moderate.

Black people can't have conservative views? Do they not have agency in your world?

Are you normally this unable to think outside small anecdotal tidbits just to justify your view while ignoring the macro context of things and data?

Police have a tough job, and a lot of them feel black politicians and black people don't appreciate the sacrifice.....a lot of them are going to go to politicians like Koch, Giuliani, Vallone, Lhota, Adams, etc.

Those guys have their backs.

Do you think the police have issues in how they conduct themselves on the job? Or they are just the victims?

The sacrifice of a six figure job, six figure retirement, very little accountability for actually doing your job well and when you do it poorly it’s most often the taxpayers who pick up the tab for your fuck ups?

So serious question do you actually live in NYC? Are you a cop?

He's a Russian or so immersed in Russian propaganda that he might as well be Russian. His posting record is a sad affair.

Yes, I do.
They have problems, but they cannot admit it, because the culture is too rigid. Young white cops who are not rigid are usually shunned or diminished.

I lived in NYC for a long time, I am not a cop, but I live in a district where there are a lot of cops who are frustrated and angry that people don't appreciate what they did on 9/11 and other events...

Sorry, but doing good things a few times doesn't give you cover to keep doing shitty things. Maybe if they stopped being shitty people and submitted themselves to real oversight, people wouldn't have such a problem with cops.
