Yes it is me again (Galaxy GC 670 OC).
Today is my last day to send it in
My shrink says I have issues.

Numbers
$378
Less Rebate $339
Cost to send in $10

Sapphire 7950
$290
Less Rebate $270

Difference $60

Wife says.. keep it.. try Nvidia for a generation.. eat the $60.
I think... $60 for 1gig less ram, slower when the 7950 is OC.. and no more TWIMTBP games. She says, $60 savings comes at a price.. sending the card back, getting the AMD card and hoping it fits in your case (antec 300, but ananders here have it and have done it, but tight fit), and not getting to try Nvidia. Then says.. you know it is just a video card.

I can't believe I have been so indecisive, but $60 is a lot for me. I used some tax return to buy this because I wanted to go NV this time. However the 7950 and it's OC and Extra ram for $60 less just seems stupid not to go that route.

I have 2 hours to make a final decision.

Have you OCed the 670? A good OCing 670 can outpace a moderately OCing 7950. You're assuming you'll be one of the lucky ones with the crazy 7950s. Mine only goes up to 1100 on the core and stable in every game, I can push 1175 but only in certain situations.

Also, the 670 is quite a bit leaner than the 7950, so less power consumption over time. Less heat to dissipate too, with a lower TDP.

You also get to toy with PhysX, or if you have a 120 Hz monitor, light boost.

You probably won't miss that 1gb of ram any time soon. There are a few situations where you need it, but unless you have a 1440/1600p monitor, it's not necessary.

Likely longer term resale value, if you do that. The nvidia name goes a longer way.

Better build quality on Galaxy vs Sapphire, IMO. To get a good quality 7950, you're looking at $300 starting.

Also, FCAT is showing that nvidia cards might actually be smoother. If you already paid the money, why bother going back?

For $60 bucks, it's not worth it. I have an ASUS 670 DCII and an MSI 7970. Both are great cards, but the difference between them isn't eye popping. Yes the 7970 is faster, and sure the 7950 might win a few here and there over the 670, but I like them both the same. Keep the 670. I think its great card. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I know what you mean. :)

I had a GTX 460 for a little over two years. I bought the GTX 570 ($139.00 AR) from MC about 2-3 weeks ago. Decided I wanted something with more Vram and power than the 570 for gaming along with some video editing. I did a lot of research deciding between the 7950 and 670. I went with the 7950 after giving it a lot of thought so waiting on my 7950 from NE to get here just returned my 570 today to MC. I wanted to go Nvidia never had a problem and have been happy but just couldn't justify paying more for a 2GB -256 bit card over the 7950. The performance between the two is not a factor one way or the other close enough for me imo. I plan a mild oc (1025-1075)on stock voltage on the 7950 just for some games is the plan. If Nvidia would have had 3GB and 384bit 670 I would have went with it! So I will test out this 7950 for 3 weeks if I am not happy I will just return it and wait for the 700 series hopefully a 770 (3GB-320/384 bit-) model and see what the specs/power/pricing are and make a decision at that time. :)

Thats where I get the $60 difference fast.
It is still sitting in the box unopened.. so I have done nothing with it for 3 weeks.

I'm not sure why you need a gfx card upgrade if it's been sitting around for 3 weeks. I have to put mine in the earliest chance I get because I look forward to the upgrade :)

Thus since your not urgent for the upgrade, send it and get the AMD Reloaded deal for free games (Bioshock is great) and an extra $60 for something else.

Just reread your your first post my bad got it. :)

I came across this (link below) not sure how accurate it is or will be but if I end up sending the 7950 back if I am not happy I hope Nvidia will release something close with these specs (Vram & MI) in the 770 model.

I usually play what card is better for the games I play rather than the better deal game, which might just end up less performance/fps in the games I play...

You know.. I play all kinds of stuff.
:)
The ram concerns me.
.....
Maybe I should just try it..... and if I don't like it sell it next gen and upgrade.

Why does RAM concern you? What resolution are you playing at? What games? What settings? Plenty of people here have GTX 6 series cards and have no VRAM issues. My son plays modded Skyrim on one and has no issues. It's not such a big issue that it makes you so indecisive over a video card man :p it's a great card, play with it and have fun.

I am also concerned that AMD just secured BF4. I play BF3 and do not want to find BF4 runs like ass on my Nvidia card.

You will forever be wondering whether you couldn't have milked a little more out of the card you don't choose; whether its upcoming drivers won't suddenly double its performance; whether the next masterpiece of a game wouldn't run better on it; whether watching mechanoids vomit debris vs. seeing Lara Croft's head in a wind tunnel wouldn't get you that tiny bit closer to transcending the human condition.

You're screwed either way, so just keep what you have and get on with the misery of owning an excellent graphics card.

Your wife is a smart lady, you should listen to her.
Keep the 670. It's the better card and will perform better than the 7950. Don't worry about BF4 performance, NVIDIA will do fine if not better in it. It looks basically the same as BF3, which NVIDIA performs better in.
I don't understand how you are doubting NVIDIA drivers, when AMD has had a horror story about their drivers since the 7000 series launched.

LOL! Well, the 7950 is still a great card; and don't listen to all the BS about drivers on this forum. I haven't had any issues. This is on a single card, mind you. Just Enjoy!;)

Personally loving my 670 DCII here, and I wouldn't trade it, even if it meant a 5% perf boost unless it was for a similar card. I've tinkered with AMD in past and after owning a 5970, I swore to not give them any more money for videocards for a long time. (bad fans, awful driver stability, loud even when fans didn't have bearing issues, microstutter and so on. My 670 has been rock solid. So is the 580 that replaced the 5970. So was the GTX280 before it, and the 8800GTS 512 before that. I've had a lot of luck with nVidia cards and little luck with AMD. YMMV, of course.

As mentioned, you also get physx and decent OC margins.

7950 is an excellent card. Sometimes I think they should have made the 7990 with 2x 1000-1050mhz 7950 cores so save power because its so close to a 7970 in performance.

Alright guys.. I took your advice and listened to my wife and kept it. I have it installed now. Had some trouble at first (no pic), but reseated everything and it seems to run fine.
I am curious how I did in the silicon lottery as far as boost goes.
Rated for 1006 with 1085 boost. In heaven I actually get 1175 boost.
The only thing I don't like is that it gets up to 75.. but the fan stays at 40.. so I think Galaxy made a quiet fan profile vs heat. I might have to find a way to adjust that. It is very quiet though.

No! NV used to perform better in BF3.
