I prefer nVidia. I have 2 GTX 460 1GB SLI and I've haven't had 1 problem with drivers or
gaming for over the 2 1/2 years I've had them and they are heavily overclocked.

But I don't have enough VRAM to run Crysis 3 and FarCry 3. So these games have to use system RAM and that causes alot of stuttering.

I like the GTX 670 but the 2GB frame-buffer isn't enough.

Get the 3GB HD 7950 and overclock to HD 7970 GHZ edition.

Keep it for now. If they itch is great then get the 7950. Also another option maybe to trade it with another member on the forum. I am sure someone out there with a 7950 might want to switch.

OP good decision to stick with the GTX 670.

You didn't even post a single source

BF3 1920 x 1200

HD 7970 Ghz - 65 fps
HD 7970 - 58 fps
HIS hd 7950 iceq x2 boost - 57 fps
GTX 670 - 55 fps

HIS HD 7950 runs at 950 mhz. the GTX 670 boosts to 1+ ghz even at stock. also the scaling on the HD 7950 is excellent. HD 7950(1100 Mhz) matches HD 7970 Ghz. it would need a 1.25+ ghz GTX 670 card to match a 1.1 Ghz HD 7950.

http://gamegpu.ru/action-/-fps-/-tps/battlefield-3-ehd-game-test-gpu.html

BF3 End Game multiplayer

1920 X 1080 UQ

HD 7970 Ghz - 82
GTX 680 - 73
HD 7970 - 71
GTX 670 - 64
HD 7950 - 62

thats a HD 7950 running at 800 mhz keeping up with a GTX 670. HD 7950 boost even at stock would be just behind the HD 7970(925 mhz) and at 1100 mhz it will match a HD 7970 Ghz. it would require a 1.3+ Ghz GTX 670 to keep up with a HD 7950(1.15 Ghz)

lol the ghz 9 frames faster than the 680? Sure. Im happy for all your calculations, a stock 670 matches an overclocked 7950. Proof is right there. Don't bring up boost, its different for any card and the reference model is the worst of the bunch. Try comparing an overclocked 670 to that overclocked 7950 now.

BTW - it took months, even more than a year for amd to catch up in bf3 and in tons of games. To me, thats laughable. Especially how they release overclocked versions of their two best cards to look better in benchmarks.

You're reading comprehension failed there - try rereading what he wrote

for 670 to keep up 1100 OC 7950 usually needs 1250+ how many 670s do that?

*sighs* both cards are nice - op already has one - as I said before use it or don't its up to the op.....but right now 7950 is a much better buy than the 670....

Its cheaper; OC *usually better* with OC is faster and better game bundle.....sorry that hurts you but hey....

Except, some of us live in the real world where most cards don't OC as well as you think they do. My 7950 is locked to 1.25V and it crashes after 1100 MHz.

My old 670 took 150 MHz boost without me touching anything else. Those 670s can OC fairly well.

FYI, a 670 at stock will still be faster than a 7950 at 1000. It needs that overclock while the 670 does fairly well at stock.

the only thing which affects the performance of the ref HD 7950 boost is clock throttling at a stock power control of 0%. HIS HD 7950 has a BIOS with proper powertune settings and good binning to make sure the card does not throttle at stock power control of 0%. so it runs at 950 Mhz consistently. once you max power control any HD 7950 will perform the same at a given clock.

Its well known that HD 7950 is 3 - 5% slower than HD 7970 at same clocks. the HIS HD 7950 iceq x2 boost(950 mhz) is 1 fps behind HD 7970(925 Mhz). a HD 7950 requires 50 mhz extra clocks to match a HD 7970.

Anybody knows that a HD 7950 at 1.1 Ghz = 7970 Ghz(1.05 ghz). in the above 2 benchmarks the GTX 670 needs to run at 150 mhz higher clocks to have a chance of matching a HD 7950. so to match an average HD 7950 at 1.1 ghz you need an above average GTX 670 at 1.25 - 1.3 ghz. if you compare above average HD 7950 at 1.2 Ghz the GTX 670 even at 1.3 Ghz will not have a chance of catching up.

Hi, I am a Fanboi, nice to meet you.

oh, you have a 7950. wouldnt expect that. The whole board is pro AMD, misleading consumers who ask for advice here.
AMD took months to catch up in many games as previously stated.
AMD had to release higher clocked versions of their cards to look better in benchmarks, especially because the lowly 660ti was about to spank the 7950 at stock.
AMD even has problems now with frame latency issues and crossfire is basically useless.
Why anyone would buy an AMD graphics card is a great question.

I do understand that my friend - but I still stand by that overall value 7950 is a better buy right now than the 670.....:)

No where have I ever said 670 was a bad card; if they were equal priced; with same games - I'd possibly lean towards 670.......but they aren't

7950 is cheaper card; better game bundle - and with the possibly of better OC........but as I keep saying to people buy what's in your budget....OC is extra

Either card you'll max most games out at 1080p.....:D

If they were equally priced, nobody would recommend the 7950 over the 670, only the pro AMD people on this board. The OP already has the 670, which is the better card. So why would he send it back?

I wasn't talking about me actually. I have owned just as many Nvidia as ATI/AMD. Ironically, the ONLY card I ever had to RMA was my GTX 8800.

Because he's not happy with it? the 7950 is cheaper; better game bundle; when OC passes OC 670; matches its big brother.......

Oh wait - we're not supposed to point those things out......no are not priced equally - which is why 7950 is considered best bang for your buck card right now.......

Simple fact is you can't handle that - if the role was reversed you'd be more than singing 670 praise......but the fact you can't.

If you'd bothered to read Ops first subject on this - he listed several reasons to send back and to keep the card....

I told him in the end; up to him; keep or not; but if he's already this unhappy without even opening it......

Its a video card man - your life does not depend on it; and throwing a hissy fit over it doesn't help you either

Basically this is the point. To send it back, buy another card, is another week or so without a card, to get a minimal improvement at best. A $60 difference for the Sapphire (downgrade in quality, IMO), or $30 for a TF3/WF3, isn't worth the time and effort, unless he really wants that 7950.

For me I did it because my 670 was reference while I got the quieter cooler with my WF3, and my 670 was giving me graphical issues.

I still don't notice the difference between the two. Except the 7950 has coil whine, as did my 7970, while the 660 and the 670 never gave me any.

Also, I never understood the whole, when it OCs it passes X. Of course it does. The 670 OCs to faster than the 680, the 7950 OCs to pass the 7970. Guess what. The 680 OCs even higher, and so does the 7970.

There is no way your 670 was giving you graphical issues, Nvidia is perfection.
