Why should we give NY 60Billion for Hurricane victims?

Easy tiger, you'll catch up to nehalem's misogyny train.

We all have to pay for shit we don't like. That's the point, your in the minority and get less say in what gets spent.

It's the way the system works, keep shaking your fist though it's good for laughs.

so what do fisheries in Alaska, and the Smithsonian museum roof have to do with fixing NYC?

both are part of the 60 billion dollar sandy rescue bill you so want to spend all American's money on

When we got rocked by Katrina, there were a lot of similar questions:

Why do these idiots live along the gulf?
Why should we pay to rebuild their homes and infrastructure?
Why weren't they better prepared?

We used to joke that no one would ask these questions if a hurricane hit the Northeast. It's disheartening to see that they are indeed being asked.

big picture..

are you people out of your effing minds ?? NY/NJ is one of the most significant economies on the face of the Earth, maybe THE most significant.

There a reason millions of people live there.. they make it work.

There is no better investment for $60 billion or whatever it takes to get everything back to, or better than it was.

Jesus H Christ we live in an age of ignorance..

I think what some of the people are saying is that NY/NJ wouldnt get a hell of a lot out of that 60 billion. Most is random pork for misc programs throughout the country. And yes I am aware it happens ALL THE TIME from both parties and I have never agreed with any of those either.

Yup and we got 200b in corporate welfare with the Fiscal cliff deal.

Are you mad were wasting money on stuff? Welcome to the club.

Maybe we should call this Train to Nowhere!

I would not be upset if the Feds paid for some of the subway repairs. The Subway is infrastructure which saves money in some ways in Gasoline expenses. However, dont expect the fed Govt to upgrade your ancient delapidated subway system. It collects money so just get a plan and a long term loan like they did for people in Alaska after one of their big earthquake/Volcanic events.

When a phone company wants to install a really expensive large switching system for phones, they get a long term financing agreement. This is the best way to handle a problem like this. Sell some long-term bonds or something. If they can rebuild the twin towers, why not the subway?

right.

there's no credible disagreement about the amount from any source other than loons.

there's also a cost to wasting time.

If your part of the club, why aren't you trying to to prevent some/all of the waste? why just go along like a sheep with whatever they ask for, no matter how bad it is?

Yes the fiscal cliff welfare thing was/is a slap in the face. Thanks democrats and repbublicans for that brilliant move, mainly thanks biden and Obama for stuffing that in there.

lol, right. there is no waste in a 60 billion government spending bill.

those fish in Alaska sure got beat up by the hurricane. And the roof of the Smithsonian yup, it took sever damage from sandy.

Simple, it cant be fixed, there is zero will in government to do anything about the issues. Why do you think that is?

You talk about welfare and entitlements and while I think they need reform, ending corporate welfare is a great start, still wont do a thing.

absent full blown revolution things only get worse from here.

Next up bond bubble

Just remember you voted for this mess. Should have got rid of president dumbo.

This is what you voted for.

lol like anyone else would have been any better.

Oh yes Romney would have saved the day. lol

Did you vote for Reagan?

if so you started this fucking mess, clean it up.

so if we cant fix the mess, why fix new york. everything will just blow up in the next 20-39 years, why bother.

From Chris Christie: “31 days for Andrew victims. 17 days victims of Gustav and Ike,” he said. “10 days for victims of Katrina. For the victims of Sandy in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut it’s been 66 days and the wait continues.”

chris Christie is a blow hard. we would probably be better off waiting before spending money on most/all of those resuce packages.

but doing what FEELS right is easier/faster then doing what is right.

That's the way politics works. If your point is those items don't belong in this bill, that's not a valid point.

If you think those items are not worthy for some other reason, tell me why. Otherwise you have no point.

And even if they aren't worthy, you have to consider the effect of delaying the full restoration of an area vital to the entire country.

In any case, we aren't even talking about reality. Reality is the only reason this didn't already pass is petulance and ineptitude on the part of the House Republican leadership.

if it hasn't happened in a 100 years why waste the money preventing it from happening?

if you build a wall 10 ft high, what happens when your water is 11 feet tall?... how do you get the water out then? darn, you fix not only failed to prevent the problem, it made it worse.

then again, maybe we should build a huge wall around nyc and then flood it.

Don't be jealous, maybe someday you can live here too.

Poor poor Repubs. I think it's PTSD that's got them acting like blabbering idiots up on the Hill.

We all need to coddle and reassure them that we love them and we all should tell them what a marvelous job they're doing screwing things up for themselves.

Some day they're going to get straightened out and become that force to be reckoned with that we all knew and loved to hate.

For now, all I can do is send them referrals for getting excellent crisis management, anger management, intervention and rehab services that are highly recommended by leftist extremists.

Sure sounds like some people are jealous in addition to being anti-American. Walling off a city and flooding it - doesn't that sound like a terrorist's wet dream?

A better question is why not send aid to New York and New Jersey. Last time I checked both of these are donor states meaning they give more money to the federal government then they get back.

So in short go fuck your selves.

if NYC cannot afford its subway, then maybe they shouldn't have it. If they want the subway, then they should pay for it. The vast majority of the vaule of NYC's subway is for NYC residents, why should I in Wisconsin pay for the NYC'r to have a subway. We don't have the money here to expand/support our public transport system, why should I pay for someones 1200 miles away?

You're totally missing the point. Disasters that damage major pieces of infrastructure cannot be insured against. Does that mean we stop building things that get us potable water, treat sewage, bridge rivers, transport people and goods? Since insuring every significant infrastructure work across the country is not possible the government is relied upon to step in when some extraordinary disaster takes place. This model is the same in every developed country.

Generally when money is spent to rebuild such a thing the government is heavily in favor of spending a little more to ensure the exact same thing doesn't happen again. Also a lot of components for parts of the subway haven't been mass manufactured for about half a century, the only option in many cases is to move to modern systems which are also better.

The MTA is already selling the $5B in bonds to get started on the work. They'll take whatever money ends up coming from the Feds against the bonds and pay off the rest themselves over time.

People like you are why government debt is ballooning. You have no problems spending unlimited amounts of money just because theres an 'emergency'. When something bad happens lets just write a blank to the government. Thats your thinking.

Its idiotic, emotional, and short sighted.

Theres no reason to spend money on Alaska, Ohio, museums, etc, etc, etc, to fix the problems caused by the hurricane.

I dont see any impact on my life, or the lives of millions outside of nyc, by the current delay of these funds. none.
