well, I for one like to hear my music's details in full form. That's why I blast it. Now, I'm aware that people around me aren't necessarily on the same wavelength and might be bothered by it. So for me ( when I do crank it up ) it's a constant battle between desire for experience and desire to not intrude on others - because I've been on the recieving end, and it sucks.

That being said, I just got a newer car and don't have any good equipment in it - yet. I wouldn't call myself wealhy but i'm not poor. Amazing how quickly a high tech salary dissapears in this economy in the sf bay area...

As themisfit610 said, on my system it sounds much better the louder you play it, at a reasonable volume I get hiss from my speakers and flat sound. Anything less than 100db sounds pretty washed out and crappy. But unlike him I'm not in a battle with myself I just play my music loud. 95% of the time I'm on the freeway any ways and nobody can hear my music at all.

I live in a building shared by a small deli/general store. Sometimes dickheads park outside the livingroom window because the small parking lot out from is full. I can feel my damn chair shaking because of how loud the bass is. If only it was legal to shoot out tires......oh well.

Plain and simple, I think it shows disrespect to others to blast your music insanely loud. "I like noise, and I don't care if you don't! Haha!!!"

What about all the blind drivers, ever think about them? They can't rely on sight, so when your music is blaring and they can't hear anything else you are effectively blinding them, you could easily cause an accident that way!

It's true, less affluent people do tend to blast their music, but it's only a correlation. The real culprit is lack of education and lack of manners. Generally speaking, less affluent people tend to be (unfortunately) less educated, which just generally means more ignorance and less consideration of others. Young folks (say, under 21) are also more ignorant, although they may be affluent, and they tend to be the ones who blast their music.

good point, and I'm not going to sit outside somewhere parked blasting it, I do it when I drive, I'm not going to subject people in apartments or small stores to my excessive noise for 15 minutes straight. That is annoying and I can understand peoples displeasure there, but for 20 seconds at a light shouldn't ruin their day.

Yes it's my fault I went overboard on my car stereo and it sounds like shit at low volumes, so even if I had "manners" as you say, my only option would be to rip it out and install a normal car stereo setup that can be listened to at a lower volume. Or I could turn my $3k system down and have it sound worse than the stock system on a 88 Ford Escort.

I'll chose to do what jpeyton joked about and continue to annoy affluent snobs.

The boompa-boompa guys you hear have the volume WAY higher than it needs to be for fidelity or power. Get in your car, crank up the tunes to a loud sing-along level, then get out and shut the door. You'd be surprised how little you can hear, especially the bass.

Edit: I should add that this is coming from someone who has spent years in front of rock bands powered by the biggest, baddest, and loudest amps money could buy.

Increased output comes at the price of increased THD... your system is probably quite poor in audio fidelity if you need to really crank it up to make it sound "good".
