I can't speak to the "affluent" part, but as my dad always said, "I like to feel my music."

WTF does class have to do with enjoying loud music? When you go a concert the music will be loud as shit. Me wanting to to re-create the concert experience makes me classless?

Personally I think people who are critical of me because of how loud my music is are the classless, judgmental ones. Wow so they have to hear it for a few seconds at a red light, it's not like they're going to die from it. If they get their panties in a bunch - fuck em....

well, I for one like to hear my music's details in full form. That's why I blast it. Now, I'm aware that people around me aren't necessarily on the same wavelength and might be bothered by it. So for me ( when I do crank it up ) it's a constant battle between desire for experience and desire to not intrude on others - because I've been on the recieving end, and it sucks.

That being said, I just got a newer car and don't have any good equipment in it - yet. I wouldn't call myself wealhy but i'm not poor. Amazing how quickly a high tech salary dissapears in this economy in the sf bay area...

When you have no considerations for others around you in the public, that is equal to no class.

You are not going to die from turning down your music a few dBs, dipshit.

And they're not going to die from being exposed to it for a FEW SECONDS. It's not like I'm driving at night with my high beams constantly on blinding other drivers.

As themisfit610 said, on my system it sounds much better the louder you play it, at a reasonable volume I get hiss from my speakers and flat sound. Anything less than 100db sounds pretty washed out and crappy. But unlike him I'm not in a battle with myself I just play my music loud. 95% of the time I'm on the freeway any ways and nobody can hear my music at all.

Or when they park outside for several minutes.
I live in a building shared by a small deli/general store. Sometimes dickheads park outside the livingroom window because the small parking lot out from is full. I can feel my damn chair shaking because of how loud the bass is. If only it was legal to shoot out tires......oh well.

Plain and simple, I think it shows disrespect to others to blast your music insanely loud. "I like noise, and I don't care if you don't! Haha!!!"

What about all the blind drivers, ever think about them? They can't rely on sight, so when your music is blaring and they can't hear anything else you are effectively blinding them, you could easily cause an accident that way!

Have some consideration.

It's true, less affluent people do tend to blast their music, but it's only a correlation. The real culprit is lack of education and lack of manners. Generally speaking, less affluent people tend to be (unfortunately) less educated, which just generally means more ignorance and less consideration of others. Young folks (say, under 21) are also more ignorant, although they may be affluent, and they tend to be the ones who blast their music.

good point, and I'm not going to sit outside somewhere parked blasting it, I do it when I drive, I'm not going to subject people in apartments or small stores to my excessive noise for 15 minutes straight. That is annoying and I can understand peoples displeasure there, but for 20 seconds at a light shouldn't ruin their day.

You shouldn't force your music on others. Turn it down so it's only audible in your own damn car.

of course it has to do with class. if you haven't been taught to behave better in public and be considerate of others you are acting like street trash with no manners.

And people who have been taught manners wouldn't be looking down on others. I find people who judge others to be even more classless than the people they're judging.

Yes it's my fault I went overboard on my car stereo and it sounds like shit at low volumes, so even if I had "manners" as you say, my only option would be to rip it out and install a normal car stereo setup that can be listened to at a lower volume. Or I could turn my $3k system down and have it sound worse than the stock system on a 88 Ford Escort.

I'll chose to do what jpeyton joked about and continue to annoy affluent snobs.

it has nothing to do with looking down on others when you choose to behave like a monkey in public. whether its yacking in the theater or broadcasting your lousy taste in music. and that you can't even see that what you are doing is wrong shows how classless you really are:p whether you are rude and considerate has nothing to do with wealth.

Every time I hear obnoxious loud music blarring out of a house in the middle of the day, the owners/renters seem to be less affluent judging by the shape/location of the property.

Anyone else notice this?

what else did you expect to see in the ghetto?

Here in S. Florida you may be next to a $150k vehicle booming....chances are though you would not hear any music outside a real home here unless they were playing it out back.

All I've noticed is it is mainly younger people that do it, which is funny because you would think the oldies were the ones that need their music louder so they can actually hear it.

I can just see someone driving along with Maple Leaf Rag blaring out their windows.

Oh I am so going to do that. Cruise by the beach with that blaring and pick up some grannies.

Inferiority complexes. A constant need to assert themselves and be aggressive because they are afraid of being dismissed by society. It's also a ghetto status symbol, like the stupid rims. A cheap way to throw away money so people will think you have it. No one with class ever buys that shit, because it's just that: shit.

The boompa-boompa guys you hear have the volume WAY higher than it needs to be for fidelity or power. Get in your car, crank up the tunes to a loud sing-along level, then get out and shut the door. You'd be surprised how little you can hear, especially the bass.

Edit: I should add that this is coming from someone who has spent years in front of rock bands powered by the biggest, baddest, and loudest amps money could buy.

I crank my music, but there are 40 acres, 12 guard dogs and an electrified perimeter keeping the riffraff like the OP off the property.

I would have gone through the 12 dogs OR the 40 acres, but not both ;)

I'm surprised at the people saying they need to crank up their systems loud for sound quality purposes...

Increased output comes at the price of increased THD... your system is probably quite poor in audio fidelity if you need to really crank it up to make it sound "good".

I don't mind when another car is blasting music at a stop light... I just turn up my stereo until I can't hear their's...
