I hate it when I'm at a light and my car/body is shaking from some other car.

I can just see someone driving along with Maple Leaf Rag blaring out their windows.

I was once in a convertible my friend was driving with the top down...blasting this at top volume....

We got a lot of strange looks, but it was fun and sounded great!

This one time I was eating in a Vietnamese restaurant and I happened to be at the table next to this woman who thought she was the shit. She making unrealistic demands on the waiters and when the waiters walked away she was constantly putting them down. Made me almost walk over and vomit in her mouth.

This is relevant to the subject of this thread.

lack of class mostly

WTF does class have to do with enjoying loud music? When you go a concert the music will be loud as shit. Me wanting to to re-create the concert experience makes me classless?

Personally I think people who are critical of me because of how loud my music is are the classless, judgmental ones. Wow so they have to hear it for a few seconds at a red light, it's not like they're going to die from it. If they get their panties in a bunch - fuck em....
Or when they park outside for several minutes.
I live in a building shared by a small deli/general store. Sometimes dickheads park outside the livingroom window because the small parking lot out from is full. I can feel my damn chair shaking because of how loud the bass is. If only it was legal to shoot out tires......oh well.

Plain and simple, I think it shows disrespect to others to blast your music insanely loud. "I like noise, and I don't care if you don't! Haha!!!"

good point, and I'm not going to sit outside somewhere parked blasting it, I do it when I drive, I'm not going to subject people in apartments or small stores to my excessive noise for 15 minutes straight. That is annoying and I can understand peoples displeasure there, but for 20 seconds at a light shouldn't ruin their day.

And you don't realize that anyone living in the vicinity of a red light has to put up with inconsiderate asses 20 seconds out of every 2 minutes. Oh well, I don't have to deal with it in my neighborhood - no one drives by with their stereo blasting. If they did, someone would stop them and say something to them. After that, they would realize how obnoxious they were, apologize, and not do it again. :)

The boompa-boompa guys you hear have the volume WAY higher than it needs to be for fidelity or power. Get in your car, crank up the tunes to a loud sing-along level, then get out and shut the door. You'd be surprised how little you can hear, especially the bass.

Edit: I should add that this is coming from someone who has spent years in front of rock bands powered by the biggest, baddest, and loudest amps money could buy.

Hit it right on the head. Otherwise known as "little man syndrome". Same goes for loud motorcycles.

It has nothing to do with an inferiority complex, would you say somebody who spends $20,000 on the audio portion of their home theater to have an inferiority complex? I'm not trying to impress anyone. If you look at most athletics & a lot of actors & musicans they have crazy car audio setups. Would you say somebody who drops $100k on a car stereo is cheap with no class? You sure like to generalize. You could call them stupid for spending that much but to flat out say nice stereo = classless fucker is pretty hilarious.

If loving loud music means I have a small penis, then I must. But that doesn't explain why I still like loud music even when I'm in the middle of nowhere with nobody around to hear it.

And you bring up "stupid rims" but if you buy any new car or truck it will come with these "stupid rims" Like it or not rims are a status symbol. And unless you're buying a Corolla chances are a new car will come with shiny rims. And nice cars will come with very powerful stereos, when did wanting nice shit become "you have t3h small penis LOLCOPTER!"

Nice viewpoint you have there.

It's true, less affluent people do tend to blast their music, but it's only a correlation. The real culprit is lack of education and lack of manners. Generally speaking, less affluent people tend to be (unfortunately) less educated, which just generally means more ignorance and less consideration of others. Young folks (say, under 21) are also more ignorant, although they may be affluent, and they tend to be the ones who blast their music.

I disagree with you on your latter points.

While I agree on the causation vs correlation argument, I would argue that the prevalence can be attributed more to arrogance and a lack of confidence. Their rude impositions are usually a result of actions, intended or otherwise, that they cannot confirm and redeem satisfaction from regularly. While many drivers are annoyed, very few are ever impressed, so it is more of a arrogant display of an auditory phallus. The only satisfaction derived from such activity is that which they conjure up for themselves, in many cases, to compensate for satisfaction that is simply not there. While one would argue that the lower classes are not of this mental capacity I humbly disagree. While they might not be educated enough to completely understand the social devices in play, they are still capable of making use of them for personal gain.

To be truly fair, exclusion is a rather potent catalyst in society. Those with financial barriers to inclusion are only one of many groups that exhibit this behavior is such a public and audacious way. To add to this, social exclusion results in various responses from the participants such as aggression, regression, and indifference. With repeated exclusion and a lack of guidance, a lack of self-confidence is an expected response, and compensation can take on many forms. As with any class, people usually live above or well-beyond their means, and such displays are normal fare; some just happen to stand out more.

i.e. just because they're poor and they can't afford more complicated problems doesn't mean you and your rich friends aren't just as fucked up [or even more so] as they are.

the people that complain about those that listen to loud music, have loud vehicles and hot girlfriends are simply the ones that wish they had the balls to live that kind of life.

I listen to a lot of jazz and latin (and latin jazz, for that matter). I purposely blast my jazz even LOUDER next to people with annoying, trunk-rattling rap.

^^ for the record. :p

1) you assume they can hear you

2) you assume they care

you just contributed to the problem most have by doing this at a level you normally wouldn't listen at anyway.

Yes, you're right. But it makes me happy.

Ignorance is bliss? I can't help it - sometimes I just gotta be dumb. It reminds me of the simple aspects of life :D

Yes, like listening to your car's stereo at your own volume level.

I wouldn't have a problem with it but around here, my friends and I like to use the term "No Mids" As in they spend all their money in bass equipment and they leave the stock speakers in the car, thus blowing out the paper cones and crappy coils. I can point out 10 cars in the parking lot here, that have asinine amounts of bass coming out of them so much so that the trunks of the cars can be seen vibrating, but you can not hear what the song is because it is sooo distorted it can not be made out.

When I was younger I put "systems" into my cars. I had a cheap old Mistsubishi Mirage with 2 12 RF punch and a 500W RF amp in the trunk, with a mix of Kenwood tweeters, Alpine 6x9s and Infinity 6.5"s, all run off a Pioneer head unit. Everyone loved my sound system, but from the outside, you would never know It had the kind of power it did. I give some of the credit to the car as it seems to have had a superior sound dampening ability because I could crank that system up and it would almost be painful to sit in it because the bass would be hitting so hard, but if you stood 5 feet from the car you couldn't tell anything was going on inside of it.

I love GOOD loud music, but my tastes and others do not mix, and thus i don't feel I should subject my music tastes to others and I wish others had the same respect for other people.

definitely not a true stereotype. i lived in a mostly upper middle class town where i grew up and returned briefly. plenty of these well off kids who got their cars given to them by mom and dad would blast music.

Every time I hear obnoxious loud music blarring out of a house in the middle of the day, the owners/renters seem to be less affluent judging by the shape/location of the property.

Anyone else notice this?

If it's too loud you're too old.

in new haven I can guarantee 95/100 cars blasting stereos are driven buy a mexican, puerto rican or other minority group. The cars usually suck balls too. Falling apart pieces of shit with crap ass exhausts or no exhaust at all. Some sort of badge of honor to drive a car with a stereo more expensive than the car itself.

You just lack the balls to turn your music up.
