Welcome to reality: the world doesn't owe you anything. You've done all the right things, checked all the boxes, crossed all your 't's... and the job still may go to the nephew of the owner.

No job experience. What you should have done is gotten some positions during the Christmas rush time.

In my Junior year of highschool, I got a job at Circuit City in late November and worked through mid January. After that I was let go, but I was able to rejoin in June for 2 months.

Training you takes a good 2 weeks, and since you are only going there for 8 weeks or so it isnt worth it for them.

And your grades don't mean sh*t really.

You don't have any relatives, family, or friends that could have landed you somewhere for the summer? Ideally you would have started searching back in the winter, but someone might be able to do something for you.

Or possibly you just sound arrogant in interviews.

actually MIT uses a 5.0 system and you can have 5.0 GPA
you have to "convert" it to standard 4.0 scale when you fill out standardized forms though (for grad/med/law/business apps etc). It's a pretty stupid system

you're too smart. if your regular gpa is 3.99, who the heck cares if your weighted is 5.something? It sounds like you're trying to explain why you missed .01 of your GPA -> OMGWTHURSTUPID!!!

In all honesty, smartness only means so much. don't list your sat scores on resumes - no one cares. show intead that you're quick to follow instructions, not that you did your hw.

WHy pay you when they can pay someone else less? If they have a 2.1 gpa that can pay them less than they can pay you.

Because you're communication skills blow donkey wang?

Seriously, your #s are impressive, but that will get you absolutely nowhere unless you can market yourself extremely well. I've gotten 99% of what I've got thanks to me talking myself up. The grades just got me the ability to talk to that person with the connection.

Also, low-wage places tend not to want to hire people that are clearly intelligent as they're typically more hassle, and will resist simple things rather than just accept orders and hours.

Best of luck to ya!

BTW, my first "real job" was working 70 hours a week on a farm for minimum wage. Bustin' my arse there helped when the head of my scholarship review committee was a prior farmer ;)

It's 99% marketing and luck, 1% knowledge.

they dont ask for a resume at places like that, just references and fillout an application. jobs are hard to find as you will see when you get to college and take economic classes (if you do). you'll see min wage laws in fact squeeze the demand for teenage part-time labor.
enjoy!

So you assume that because I'm smart I basically lack all other abilities?

LoL, my bad man, it was total sarcasm. I'm actually complementing you that if you *DO HAVE* (or can establish) great communication skills, you WILL land a job somewhere.

Just be patient, but honestly retail stores shy away from overqualified ppl

There usually is a network of alumni that offer jobs to graduates of their high schools. I found info about these jobs by going to the principal office. He had a bulletin board outside his office with job offerings for students of my high school. From there I found a lawyer who was looking for some help. I really enjoyed that summer work.

You should have started looking for a job a month or two ago. Now you are competing with the college kids that are back home and probably have more experience than you.

uh.. right.
good luck getting a job at walmart with that ego & attitude.

a perfect gpa in some backwater high school won't get you into mit or harvard but a semi decent one from a competitive high school will.

we're not calling you stupid but there are tons of ppl smarter than you, so get over yourself and learn to be modest. No one will hire an arrogant teenager. It's simply not worth the effort.

True, and your "resume" looks overly done. Pick a couple of the best achievements and use those, instead of making a shopping list. btw, I think AP and honors classes are on the 5.0 system.

You can also start your own small business, maybe focusing on helping the elderly with computer issues?

Ok, troll some more. I just angers me that some people assume that intelligence means no people skills or common sense.

Yea some backwater high school alright, St Thomas Aquinas:

You're really sold on the retail bit?
Why not look at seasonal attractions - they aren't going to care that you're only available for a few months. I always had good luck with temp services companies to pick up a few weeks of work here & there over college breaks and such. Of course it was mostly manual labor & construction which may not be your bag.

But you're way behind the curve for summer work. You should have started looking back in April.

Valedictorian Class of 2005...

LOL

give them the speech, that outaa knock them out.

Anyway, nice CV, to me, it looks like 1 of 2:

1. you just want to show off, and you annoy the f**k out of people, which is one of the reasons you came here with all the goods...

2. you got a sh!tty personality, which might happen to people who excell much more than others, maybe they didn't want to deal with you.

Otherways I can't figure why not hire someone with a record like yours.

PS - in your mini resume you didn't list any work experience. That's probably not helping.

Gotta start sometime, no?

It is a bit odd that you don't have any work experience by this point - but it seems alot of teenagers don't have summer/part time jobs anymore. Alot of seasonal employers around Colorado actually bring kids in from overseas because they can't get help locally. You see it all the time in resort towns.

Learning how to take criticism, even when it is unwarranted and from uninformed people, is one of the things you'll have to learn to do if you want to get and maintain a job.

From your attitude, I'm getting the feel that you think because you're a brain, you're simply entitled to these jobs.
