Country music lyrics do not cover the broad spectrum of relevant social topics such as bussin' caps, cutting yourself, fuck the police, and bitches 'n hos.

Instead it covers, lost stuff, lost wives and pets, american flags, trucks, trailer parks, and rednecks. YAY STEREOTYPING.

you say American flags like it's a bad thing.

You say American flags like a jesus-loving badass, my country music loving toucan friend.

Are you saying you like toucans?

I really don't know what needs to be said outside of the following:

"My girlfriend left me for cheating so I'm gonna get drunk to get over it".

That pretty much sums up 99% of country songs.

As one gets older, their tastes may change.

Much of the current rap/pop music is accepted by a generation that wants to be thought of as different from their parents.

The fact that many of these "artists" are lousy role models have no bearing.

I generally dislike country, and all that kind of American folk stuff actually, but nobody can deny Johnny Cash - 'Live at Folsom Prison' is genius.

I'm mostly a fan of electronic music, but I still like "outlaw country" along with some older stuff (Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, etc.). Just none of this "pop" country that gets airplay these days.

I was lucky enough to hear this in person with all the original members at Willie's 4th of July Picnic in 1990. Probably the best concert I've ever been to.

Meh, I like some country. Very little, but some. Mostly, it's just not my cup of tea. I'm not a huge fan of the slide/twang or, usually, country accents coming through in singing.

I do like a lot of Johnny Cash stuff though...and Bad Things by Jace Everett, the True Blood theme song, is great.

This.

If it is on CMT, BET, or MTV there is a 95% chance that it sucks.

Basically, good music in each genre has some type of variation of the modifier "independent."

Good Country = Alternative Country
Good Rock = Indie Rock
Good Rap = Underground Hip Hop

I'm a big fan of the Common's (underground hip hop) early work, Yo La Tengo (indie rock), and hank williams the 3rd (alternative country), but I can't fucking stand 50 Cent (Rap), Kenny Chesney (Country) or Nickleback (Rock).

Avian racism detected. He won't even recognize you for what you are, his deep rooted hate for toucans blinds him.

Johnny Cash ROCKS!

I grew up around country music and like most of it before the late-70's/early 80's when "Young Country" became the "now" thing for country music. Too much like rock roll...just with a twang.
If I want to listen to Rock & Roll, I want REAL Rock & Roll, not some country imitation.

Um.. I like your posts, the original toucan comment made me LOL.

But his avatar isn't supposed to be a Toucan, it's supposed to be a Macaw.

Are you blind? lol Remember, Toucans have long, colored, striped beaks. Not a typical parrot beak.

Country went pop and somehow the accents got thicker? I don't recall Johnny Cash or Willy Nelson drawling like a retard.

Because most of it is vapid and washed out bullshit marketed to an easy crowd. There is some good country out there, but it's about as easy to find as "good pop music".

Vidda said it better.
