False.

He wrote some great songs but his performances live are terrible. I thought I'd go see him perform since he was a legend and all, man what a mistake, worse show I've ever seen. It was horrible, so bad that I felt embarrassed for him.

He can't sing for anything anymore, but 40 years ago he could.

IMO he shouldn't perform anymore.

Hurricane is an amazing song.

I think his voice is great for the kind of music he does. You want a voice with a bit of character for that rather than a pitch perfect, american idol, pop star voice.

I'm 26 for the record.

I was listening to Hurricane with my mom and asked her if she used to listen to Bob Dylan in college, and she said yes. Then near the end of the song said "is this song about that boxer?" Took her near 40 years of listening to Bob Dylan and she just figures it out.

Well, they hadn't made a movie about him when she was in college, had they?

Agreed. I'm not a fan of Dylan the performer, but Dylan the songwriter rates up there amongst the best.

He's not for everyone, but I love him. I think he's more of a poet than a musician, though.

LOL, let me guess, you saw his 1973 tour, didn't you? He's not much of a muscian and he's terribly shy at the best of times, but in THIS tour he really butchered his own songs like they'd been written by someone else and he didn't much care for them -- performing them ALL at the same hurried, flat, seemingly disinterested tempo and tone, like he was just doing it for the money (which he probably was).

However, I LIKE his voice. It suits his poetry. And, starting now if you haven't already folks, take note of how just about every serious muscian or songwriter will cite him in an interview as one of their prime influences/inspirations.

I agree.

One of the Top 5 most annoying vocalists of all time, IMO.

his vocals are actually intentional. for his songs, is vocals are perfect.

He actually has a damn fine voice, it's simply an aesthetic choice that he sings the way he does.

agreeing with this.

You have to get past the technical aspect and more into the emotive to appreciate Bob's singing, especially live. This coming from someone who reveres Bob as a close second to Neil Young.

Yeah I have heard a lot of these songs before. But just in passing. I've never sat myself down and listened to Dylan, probably because I've had so many tell me to listen to him. I hate listening to music that people tell me to listen to, I like finding it out on my own.

Always loved Dylan. Only discovered his Folk stuff a couple years back and that's even better.

Has anyone watched that biography thing he has on dvd? It's amazing. I wouldn't pay $10 to go see him nowadays but in his prime he was amazing.

PBS had a show about him that was really good. Covered him from the 60's to 70's, IIRC. Did the whole Folk>>>Rock period, which I had only heard about a little before. It was pretty crazy though, his fans were quite opposed to the whole thing.

There was that movie that came out recently as well that had 5(IIRC--or something) different Actors(1 woman) playing him. It's not really a Biography, but loosely based on his life. I found that to be interesting, but can't recall the name.

I agree. I just don't see what's great about him. He's a terrible singer, and his songs are so bland. His lyrics might be pretty good, but can't make a terrible song good. Would we enjoy listening to a CD with a guy speaking poems? Not really.

Neil Young's songs seem to sparkle more and just all around had a much better melody and although he wasn't a good singer either, his vocals actually seemed to fit his songs a lot better.

his songs are bland? you probably have barely heard anything from him.

singing to MUSIC is like RHYMING is to POETRY.

you wont find many who will argue that he is not the greatest musician of modern time. (lennon, clapton, cooke, hendrix, etc in this discussion)
