All Along the Watchtower ftw. Both Hendrix and Dylan versions.

..Dylan's music always sounds better when some one else is doing it.

You may want to go on a search and see what other gems are hiding in your parents' LP collection. My dad has about 170 records total and I'm slowly going through them and finding some pretty good stuff.

I like his voice, its unique.

Its not like the country music singers when you pretty much can't tell one from the other.

He's a great songwriter, but a horrible singer. I worked at an Oldies station and my manager said that the only people who like his singing are people who are trying to sound cool.

Anyway, glad you found some music you like. That's a hard thing to find these days.

It is a matter of taste, but he does fairly well on many of his songs. I agree with zinfamous, his vocals fit the songs (as they should).

I'd recommend checking out the 'Desire', 'Blood on the Tracks' and 'Blonde on Blonde' CDs for some of his better older stuff. .

I find that lots of covers completely butcher the song.

The Chili's subterranean homesick blues comes to mind as one of the worst.

For what it's worth, I never really understood the appeal of Bob Dylan until I met my wife.

To this day (12 years later) I still get all goofy and breathe funny whenever I hear his music (moreso when we're together).

his vocals are actually intentional. for his songs, is vocals are perfect.

He actually has a damn fine voice, it's simply an aesthetic choice that he sings the way he does.

I saw him in concert a couple years ago. He's not quite as good as he used to be compared to some live performance recordings I heard from the 70s. I think he's had to incorporate his "sound" into every song....just because people expect him to. It almost sounded forced.

He's still an amazing artist and songwriter.

Agreed, his voice has really changed. I think his live appearances of late doing his old stuff sound bad.

Off Modern Times though I like When the Deal Goes Down alot and Thunder on the Mountain.

Actually, the amazing thing is that although his voice has extremely limited range and tonality, most covers of his songs are markedly inferior to his originals.

Lol, I'm old enough to have read in real time mainstream music reviewers praise the writing, and dump on the singing, of both Van Morrison and Jim Morrison as well.

They were monumentally clueless and so are all the Bob Dylan voice naysayers here.
