I like Soccer and Tennis. Couldn't care less about NBA. Wish the MLB would vanish and take the NHL with it. NFL rocks though.

The excitement about soccer is that you never know how many goals are going in, so every goal could be THE vital goal.

If soccer had a smaller field and less players, I'd watch it. I don't like seeing the ball being kicked back and forth around midfield for most of the game, and I certainly don't like the offsides that nullifies almost every good chance. It takes a ton of patience to watch soccer.

I like tennis though... playing too... but I only watch if there's nothing at all to do.

I despise basketball in general...

Lacrosse is a sport that should grow, but it doesn't. :(

The reason some sports never catch on is twofold... a) the major sports will never be replaced or rivalled by other ("non-American") sports because there is way too much money involved; and b) American sports fans are eurocentric to the point of thinking that anything they aren't playing or watching just plain sucks. That's my take, rack me!

i agree with you on this. back in elementary school, when the PE coach said that soccer was the most popular sport in the world, all the kids in class just started to laugh and called him stupid. i think we all lost respect for him that day.

to those who don't like it, it is non stop inaction. i'm not one to rag on other sports (lol I do track and field... just running in circles), but i personally don't like soccer because it seems that it's just back and forth and there are so few goals that it just drags along. to each his own...

more on topic... i'm in high school and soccer is huge around here in south california. tennis is pretty big here too. the main reason that I agree with someone said before... if it's not on TV, it's not going to be popular (which is also pretty sad...)

basketball is also back and forth as is football.;)
Also I don't understand why american football is called foot ball. You dont use your legs to play it you know, just the hands.:)

probably because there's so many "home-grown" American sports.

Same reason why Hurling isn't popular anywhere but Eireland

In basketball everytime a side has the ball there is usually a point scored. In soccer theres a bunch of kicking back and forth for about 30 minutes before someone does something and then the whole continent of europe riots

It's because americans doesn't have an attention span greater than 15 mins, also known as the time between commercial breaks.

:p

But it's EXCITING. There are things happening, and points being scored. Soccer they're just running up and down the field, even when they don't have the ball. It's insane boring, and i can't imagine how the hell the sportcasters can get so excited over it.

you do know that the term soccer was invented by the english, right?

and you do know that it refers to the full name of the sport, which is 'association football,' right?

or are you just another euro-troll?

America has 300 million people with most of them immigrants or descendants of immigrants. So I'm sure you'll find some Indian, Pakistani, British-Americans who play cricket for the US. But I don't see cricket becoming popular in the US in my lifetime.

Tennis is just lame.
I can tell you why soccer is not popular - because you can't stop the game every 5 minutes to show commercials. There's no advertising to pay for widespread TV coverage, so it becomes marginalized. It's one of the biggest participation sports in the US from children to adults, but at the professional level, it's nothing,
