must resist calling you an idiot.....

Then you're no better than MichaelD himself...

why is that? I'm an idiot for calling someone else an idiot who makes a very strong claim as if it's fact without any sort of reasoning behind it? oh yes..i see the logic here....

Who said you're an idiot? Perhaps if you did a little less assuming and a little more reading then you would see the logic. Obviously MichaelD is trying to start a flame war by calling people with different ideas/views than him weak. Your doing no better by calling someone an idiot.

I don't know why men is in quotes.
Another question I would like to ask is "Why are religious so quick to get defensive?" just say your opinion on the topic. No need for any personal attacks. Or name calling.

Please don't start this... It could end up hurting a lot of people on both sides. At ATOT we're supposed to be a community, respecting each others differences, rather than arguing over things that can never be proved or disproved.

OOOOOOH, no....we're NOT getting into that whole BULLSSHIT trap you God FreakieeDeekees love to do. "Prove that God doesn't exist." Then you start quoting passeges from the bible, matching them up, mathematically with Easter Island, Stonehenge and Madonnas' tattoos.

I DON'T believe. Period. You can wave John 1.34.23..343.232.1a in my face all day...all it's gonna do it provide a breeze to cool me off.

While I don't agree with your assessment of God's existance and nature, I agree with your question despite the lack of a question mark.

Just ask the 50.9% of the Country that voted W in back in November, that's a lot of people to get an answer from.

I believe in God and I don't feel the need to insult or bait athiests. I wish the respect could be mutual. With many people it is. There's no logical reason for you to feel so irritated by something that you believe doesn't exist, right?

Your question is as stupid as asking a person why they listen to music. Afterall, music doesn't make you stop beating your dog either, but it certainly makes a difference in ones life.

Not all of us resort to such tactics.

1) Not all Christians voted for Bush
2) Not all Bush voters were Christian

God did wash my car once, actually. It was really dirty and he made it rain hard for 3 days straight, and then the car was clean.

I voted W myself; for the SECOND TIME. Aside from the Christian slant, I'm all Republican. Pro family, pro American, pro 2nd Ammendment, pro military...but pro choice, pro abortion, . Go figure...I'm a mini-political party unto myself.

You're right what I said was disrepectful to your religion. I shouldn't have said it.

Notice I said 50.9% not the 51% of the Official count, I took into account not all were Christians.

Doesn't anyone have any backbone anymore? It just seems that when faced with a problem; rent is due, drug addiction, marital problems...many people turn to "God" to help them solve all their problems.

Why doesn't the average Joe see that "God" is just an imaginary CRUTCH? If you want to quit drinking, only YOU CAN MAKE YOU QUIT DRINKING. If you want to stop beating your dog, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE YOU STOP BEATING THE DOG.

God won't save your marriage, pay the bills or wash your car. God also WILL NOT "give you the strength" to do any of the above.

If you're a weak person, admit you're weak and learn to be strong on your own. Leave The Good Book where it belongs; gathering dust in a seedy motel nightstand drawer.

You're making a huge assumption that religious folks rely on their faith as a "crutch" to solve their own problems. I'm not a deeply religious person, but as I see it, people seek God in the same way that they seek friends, family members, even pets. People take comfort in the fact that no matter how tough times are, those things are there for them, as "anchors."

Have you ever asked a friend for advice when you were in a bind? Maybe not to get a real answer, but just to get your thoughts out and maybe reflect on your problem? Some people use prayer in the same way. While you might find that "weak", I find it admirable in some ways. There are far worse ways of dealing with your problems than worship. Drinking and smoking will not "give you the strength", but they will make things hurt a little bit less. Those activities are escapes, while prayer is more reflective.

I like to consider myself strong willed and self sufficient. I usually don't seek God's help to give me the will power to make tough decisions. Others do. As long as one finds strength and motivation, who cares about the means by which he/she obtains it?

No you aren't, I'm right in there with you, althought being pro-choice is not necessarily pro-abortion but the fundies don't understand that one either. Their going to continue to get defenisve and flame you but they can't prove God exists anymore than you can prove he doesn't so the great conundrum continues....religion was designed this way for a reason.
