I had a post last night about my neighbor that go robbed ('burgularized' for the asshats). Today in a mixed group some 'black' people wanted to insist that a 'black' man had to be involved "wait for the final report".

The witnessed saw 3 mexican men and 1 white man. I am sure the 3 mexicans are probably not all from mexico.

How about taking a regular history class?

Its naive to think 'regular history class' hasn't been skewed for decades. Freeman is only able to take his stance now that our culture has benefited from more awareness brought upon by things like black history month imo.

only skewed because how much they have to fit in in a short time. they don't have the time to go voer tho invented little items.

its not that they refuse to go over them because they are black. there is just other thing sthat need to be talked about.

I'm all for a history month, black, green or, any other kind. Too many kids are more interested in what 'Bobby Sue' said in her latest Facebook update than in what occurred in the world even 10 years ago let alone 100 or 1000 years.

Well fuck, what do you propose we do? Forget about all the injustices of the past so that we can continue to relive them in the future? Why bother teaching about the holocaust while we're at it? After all, it was so long ago...it never really happened right? Let's just forget about science too because we all know that sky fairies created the world and all its wonders so there's no reason to explore or try to figure these things out.

Well, history is in the past so let's just move on without ever learning from it. It's like dumbfucks have taken control and threw a huge blanket of ignorance over the United States.

hate to burst your bubble...but most people don't give a rats ass about history.

They care more about the death of some celebrity or who is getting traded on their baseball team.

The sad fact is we DO repeat history over and over again.

Ermm, any world history class in High School will tell you all about black people.

A guy I knew in high school who was white said "why is it that white people never did anything productive? Why is it that everyone else was working on stuff except white people?"

I didn't believe my ears; pretty conclusive evidence that we no longer stress white heritage, that has become a rarity now.

Remember the past but don't fucking obsess over it year after year.

Teach "black history" in the "American history" classes in high school.

But you don't need to obsess over it 1 month a year, and every single conversation doesn't need to turn into a race conversation.

It's the first thing your eye catches...its not racist...it just is.

when people get all uptight about it is when there is a problem.

Ok so do you propose we have a WWI or WWII month so we can learn those injusticies??? I don't think you're understanding what Morgan Freeman or anyone in here is saying. Why have a month just for Blacks when it's obviously racist since it's just a part of American History? What makes the blacks more special than the whites or asians or indians?

More special? lol they get LESS time discussed in history class than the white man. Do you consider grouping 4 weeks together ahead of the 30+ weeks students get to hear about what the Caucasian man did? What they do is compact it into a bullshit 4 week thing because they know if they spread it out over an entire school year it would end up getting more coverage. I dunno about you but I'd rather make $1,000 a week for a year than $10,000 in one month with nothing more for the rest of the year That in essence is what black history is, a lot at once, but when compared to the big picture it's very very little.

it's just like saying why not more world history, its over thousands of years worth...and US history is a little over 200...why focus on US history?

If you are in a world history class, the length and breadth of slavery deserves no more than 1 day, as there is a damn shit-load of history for the whole world.

Regarding a US history class... the class is about US history. They should discuss "black history" right in line where it belongs in the class, not some arbitrary month. In my school, we'd hear about slavery and racism etc twice a year... once when it was the appropriate time in the class then again in the BHM

I'd much rather have a chronological history of the US covering all important areas.

And not all "white history" is even covered.
For instance, I recently saw "Gangs of New York" for the first time.

I had no idea that there were large wars between the "native born" of Italian descent and the new Irish immigrants. That is something I would consider significant in US history, but was never taught to me.

Doubtful, part of it would be to give them a false sense of being equal, or maybe even better for 28 days. With all the bullshit a black man or woman has to deal with in America it's the least we can do. If I kicked you in the face but gave you a lollipop after wards would you be happy you got a lollipop? doubtful. As Danny Glover said, even if he went on to win an Academy Award he still has a bitch of a time catching a cab in NYC due to his skin color. Black History Month needs to be ended, but so does police racial profiling and tons of other skin color related shit in the US. I feel like until they're treated like US citizens, and not half citizens let them have a month. February does nothing good or bad for me. I'm not in school any more so I don't even have to watch the same movie every year at school. BHM is a joke to me, and too many people get way bent out of shape over it. Heaven forbid black people get something in this country that may instill a bit of hope in them for a few weeks. And hell even during it, black people are still racial profiled, can't catch a cab, and plenty other wonderful things no other race has to worry about. Sounds like a lose/lose for them if you ask me.

Get something in this county that may instill hope for them for a few weeks? Why only a few weeks? That's racist in itself. Keeping one month to remember a specific race of people does nothing more than remind us how different we are. Black History month needs to be ended.

also the diffrence between "white history" and "black history" is pretty large. when you talk "white" history you go back thousands of years. When they talk about "black" history sadly there is not as much to go over. when dealing with world history anyway.

When it comes to US history i agree. lets do it chronological. Even then you still have the problem of what do you add and what do you take out? During Black history month we go over stuff we already did rest the year and then threw in stuff like who invented teh auto transmission, stop lights etc. stuff that wouldnt be added in if they were invented by a white man.

BHM is silliness caused by good intentions. It is a fact that in the vast majority of American schools, the histories of people other than white men have been and are ignored and misrepresented. This is a problem. But the solution to this problem is not to relegate women's and people of color's history to a month, or discuss minor inventions made by a couple people. The solution is to integrate the perspectives of women and people of color into the history curriculum. The solution is first-person sources, not text-book summaries.

Can we trust the schools to implement this? If we remove the History Months, do we remove any semblance of Women's or black history from our curriculum?

One of the posters in this thread asked why we apologized for slavery, something that "only a fraction of white Americans did 200 years ago"? I hear this sentiment often--the underlying notion that slavery is long past demonstrates our failing in black history, and the need for a black history integrated into the American history curriculum.

Look at these images and reconsider why the US senate apologized for slavery: Text..

Why are we apologizing for something only a fraction of white Americans did 200 years ago? What's there to apologize about? My ancestors were still in Scotland/Germany/Denmark/Hungary.

You do realize that slavery wasn't exactly abolished that long ago right? Still to this day, slavery in the south exists somewhat. It's not like what it used to be though. A friend of mines' grandmother still has black people working for her for very small amounts of money and it's been that way for generations in her family.

Sounds like the Mexican immigrants.....and pretty much every other minority group in this country.
