More special? lol they get LESS time discussed in history class than the white man. Do you consider grouping 4 weeks together ahead of the 30+ weeks students get to hear about what the Caucasian man did? What they do is compact it into a bullshit 4 week thing because they know if they spread it out over an entire school year it would end up getting more coverage. I dunno about you but I'd rather make $1,000 a week for a year than $10,000 in one month with nothing more for the rest of the year That in essence is what black history is, a lot at once, but when compared to the big picture it's very very little.
If you are in a world history class, the length and breadth of slavery deserves no more than 1 day, as there is a damn shit-load of history for the whole world.
Regarding a US history class... the class is about US history. They should discuss "black history" right in line where it belongs in the class, not some arbitrary month. In my school, we'd hear about slavery and racism etc twice a year... once when it was the appropriate time in the class then again in the BHM
I'd much rather have a chronological history of the US covering all important areas.
And not all "white history" is even covered.
For instance, I recently saw "Gangs of New York" for the first time.
I had no idea that there were large wars between the "native born" of Italian descent and the new Irish immigrants. That is something I would consider significant in US history, but was never taught to me.
