In reply to coomar...

I know my government disagrees with me, on more points than just that.... To be honest I'm no supporter of the US government, but not in the liberal sense. I also know the downfalls of using a completely totalitarian approach. I'm just saying that no country is owed anything, and the assumption that they are annoys me. Nations have to make their own path. Allies are important, but in the end every country needs to do what is best for itself.

Holy loaded thread dude. Shouldn't this be in P&N?

The short answer is we are the current dominant empire of the world. We have gotten there in the past 70 or so years by screwing other countries in the butt. Say what you will and mindlessly reiterate the empty-headed crap they feed you in the US schools about democracy and freedom, this country is a big bussiness with big owners buried deep in the government. Because the powerful always want more power, they have managed to convince us that we are the greatest nation in the world and deserve to keep being great, at any cost.

You look at the shady deals FDR did pre and during WWII, right along through the economic arm twisting of saudi arabia duing the 70s to present day money fights over oil and it paints an ugly picture.

America is the richest nation in the world, not because we are so good, noble and gracious people, it's because we have (or at least people in power have) taken so much from other countries. We muscle other countries around and conduct business like mobsters.

If you think I'm full of crap, check out the book "confessions of an economic hitman." Just one place to start.

Despite all this though, we were able to keep our world image looking great until we invaded Iraq for no real reason, and many rightfully question our true motives. Now people hate us, you and me, because of what our government has done in our name.

Thats the rational reason, that the intelligensia hate american for.

The emotional, knee-jerk response reason that people hate america is because we're like obnoxious muscle heads. No one likes a person (or country) who clearly thinks that they are better than everyone else, and is going to tell you how great they are, to your face, over and over and over and over.

Then why is China's popularity growing and growing? I have heard more arrogance out of the Chinese than just about anyplace else, the US included.

Because they have supplied the world with cheap manufacturing labor, and theyre soon to be suppling the world with some of the best scientists. And its been quite some time since theyve invaded another nation.

But theyre just up and coming. If and when theyre on top, and they keep up the arrogance, the world will surely hate them too.

It's attributed to a Canadian who invented it in the US and became a naturalised US citizen, thus a Candian-American (or perhaps Scottish-Canadian-American). Like most Canadians, he had to leave the country to become well-known :D

No. The second video is boring.

Agreed. Christ, dress up some hormone-laden freaks in silk pyjamas and watch them throw a ball into a hoop. That's sporty!

Yeah, and the crazy thing is, many other countries enjoy playing it. Some even grow up hoping to play in the NBA. Amazing!

How dare you question my obvious mastery of Indonesian basket-weaving! :|

You (personally, not all americans) seem to fail to recognise the contributions other countries have made, for example, we can thank the brits for much of the technology that made the world what it is today (steel, submarines, steam engines, and that's just from the letter S :)). And we can thank the arabs and the indians for modern maths and language. everyones got their own textbooks touting their own achievements..and sometimes pushing agendas. there was a book on this, i forget the name.

didn't chinese GDP exceed america this year

Nope. This is total GDP figures from world bank for 2005: EU is not marked no1. because we are not a 'real' country yet, just a collection of states, but that's what the USA is too I suppose.

? European Union 12,020,939
1 United States 11,628,083
2 People's Republic of China 7,123,712

This is GDP per person 2004:

1) Luxembourg 56230
2) Norway 52030
3) Switzerland 48230

So USA is still overall the richest nation

the eu is certainly not a real country. its more a trade federation than anything else. wait untill each country gives up its sovereignty completely and submits to a real elected federal government in every way. military/foreign policy etc, no independence.

the brits invented subs? if u wanna get silly da vinci invented subs and helicopters. the somewhat practical sub was made in america:p watching more british documentaries i've noticed they are bitter over things, like breaking the sound barrier. their version has em giving us the secret, our version is of independent invention. but thats how it is for many countries and nationalism. the brazlians disputes the right brothers as first to fly:p and of course the italians claim they had the telephone first etc. u make it sound like america wasn't the land of invention. but its where hirum maxim made the first practical machine gun. taking his friends advice, "Hang your electricity. If you want to make your fortune, invent something to help these fool Europeans kill each other more quickly!". how right he was. the arabs giving us advanced math? no... they gave us early math. but its so far back its irrelevant to this discussion since the us didn't exist then:p what have they given us since then? cartoon rage.

anyways theres a book on this differring history in textbooks. i forget the name:(

and everyone relies US entertainment.... and companies
The answer is in the question, tubbs. One reason everyone hates you is you're so arrogant and forever spouting off how awesome your country is without even the slightest hint of modesty. Further, the general people are shallow and appear to be soulless when you speak to them, constantly smiling and wishing well to everyone.
You're greedy. People see america as a country full of overweight people, whilst politically throwing their weight around when there's millions of starving people out there (yeah other countries are getting fatter, but it dervies from the US culture that is spreading).

Further, most of your films or TV programs are unbelieveably contrived, with everyone looking spotless with these false-looking 'hollywood smiles'. All films seem to be self-fellating with the stars and stripes plastered everywhere. Many of your own people realise what a joke the country is, and create political cartoons such as south park, however the audience usually misses the true drive of the program and instead concentrates on the comic value of the jokes.

Your cars suck. There have been maybe 10 cars ever produced that are half decent.

You use massive amounts of fuel and produce more pollution than anyone else in the world, yet you won't do anything about it because much smaller developing countries don't/can't join in the kyoto agreement.

You have massive amounts of fundamentalist (with emphasis on the 'mentalist') christians who aren't a million miles off as crazy as the islamists. They put no thought into where their religion stemmed and for what reasons, and simply take the bible at face value, drummming into their own heads and indoctrinating their children.

You have huge problems with guns, yet fall back on your constitution that it's your right when questioned. Yes, I know banning guns would be a nightmare now as then only the criminals will have them, but take off your rosey specs and see how many people are dying/killing themselves because of this constitution. Admit it might not be quite right.

Your women seem so false, as do the men. You see all the crap movies with jocks and all that crap, and you think it all just fictional, but then you see genuine footage and people really do loook that shallow. Empty shells painted nicely.

You spout on about how you saved the world time and time again without so much thought about the others who were part of the fights or the hugely controversial/just plain wrong practices you performed in order to be the victor in such challenges. You feel your wealthy forces give you the right to be mouthy and brash to the rest of the world.

Your own government totally has control over you. It forces the kids to sing to the flag all the time and make a huge song and dance of patriotism, effectively brainwashing much like north Korea.

Your government is a joke. The president is never really questionned on his practices (unlike the UK prime minister, for example, who is grilled by the oppposition for an hour or so every week on live TV thus forcing him to back up and explain each and every move). In the US, all you see is the president arriving with a whole load of music/razmataz/flag waving. He performs a pre-prepared speech and everyone whooops and cheers, then he dissapears. What's the difference between that and a dictatorship? It's even highly possible he wasn't even voted in.

You vote for the most entertaining president, rather than the one who perhaps has the best policies/outlook for the US.

Your food is all really sweet and sickly.

You breed fat little gobby stupid kids who create posts like the OP's.

Well that's all for now, I'm off for lunch.
okay... i read that and now im just confused as to what the hell u are arguing... these are just sterotyes mixed in with some personal dislikes...

As far as Hollywood goes, it makes money so the problem exists where??

the right to bear arms was created a loong time ago back when we didnt have much defence and needed citizens to protect themselves...

By "sing to the flag" i will assume that u are talking about the Pledge of Allegiance... this is not a song and has absolutely no "brainwashing" effect, most schools now make this activity optional...

No one votes for the most entertaining president... Bush won cause of 1) Weak opponent 2) he was christian

And i like how u took little stabs at me between every couple of points (and not in the same tense might i point out), do u want to be taken seriously? because thats the most effective way of getting your point across isn't it? i dont agree with you so i will make false assumptions and call u fat... wtf? your perspective is truly corrupt... u call others shallow and then judge a country on its cars and how certain people look? You make statements about the US govt. and mind control in schools without showing any hint of ever being in a US classroom (or any US land for that matter)

edit: oh and no1 i know has ever eatten 5 burgers in a row... for me and my friends, one burger lasts for half a day...

right cuz u know..we force feed people mcdonalds and movies. sorta like how china censors its internet and saudi arabia executes children. its all the same.

people talk about being stepped on, but they'll do it the second they get a chance to. did south american workers worry about stealing work from americans? no, they just took the jobs and ran. now they whine when china does the same to them.

2. People hate us because our cars suck? What worthwhile car companies have started in Canada?
3. Once again I don't see the argument you are trying to convey. Are you saying other countries do not have people that are "fake"?
4. If you are referring to the Pledge of Allegiance then you are wrong. That is not required, you can sit there with your thumb up your a$$ if you want and not recite the Pledge.
5. Now you are starting a conspiracy that we don't vote for our President? This is where your whole argument loses any ground you had with that idiotic statement.
6. Now the whole world hates us because of the food we eat? Jesus christ, have you heard of culture? What people eat here may taste funny over there, but guess what? What you eat there would taste just as equally funny to us? There is no right and wrong it is just what you are used to and what your tastes are.
7. First of all all country's have overweight people. And if you (or others) hate our country because we are generally more overweight than other country's doesn't that make you shallow and "fake" that you describe Americans to be? So do you hate yourself then?
8. Now you rag on Americans for being fat and you close by saying you are off to eat? Come on, you really should have left that out. Regardless of your weight, that just makes you look just as bad.

I guess I'm off to look fake and watch some television shows that I don't understand the true message of. See you later!

Read into it a bit. You'll see that it's not just each individual item, it's the impression as a whole that your country gives off. Loud, obnoxious, shallow, greedy people.

1) So many of the films are just so poor, with crap happy endings and the usual 'feel good factor'. The sitcoms *ALWAYS* have someone learning a lesson at some stage in each episode: they do something stupid, get a bit obsessed by it, get burnt from it, then learn their lesson and admits it to everyone in the end of the episode. Time after time after time.
The films often have the US saving the world, or some amazing US hero, it's jsut sickening and tired.
That's not to say all films are this way. Many are, however.

2)Yeah I dislike US cars, but of cours the yanks think they're the best in the world despite htem still using 1950's technology and the only way of increasing power to them is increasing the size of the engine. Forget efficiancy. I guess this one goes under the 'bling patriotism' heading. See, in the UK we're the opposite. We lote to critisize and complain. That way, things sometimes change. Constantly sucking your country's cock gains nothing.

3) Your country has a whoooollle load more 'fake' (shallow) people. When you get served anywhere you feel patronised, like the staff are being sarcastic or something.

4) Fair play. Is there a US flag in each classroom, out of interest? Always seems that way on the footage I see.

5) I didn't start this conspiracy.

6) Your food is the worst in the world. No argument.

7)No. Someone asked, I answered. Criticism hurts sometimes. Be a man and take it.

8) Everybod eats, even skinny people. I ate a salad, not 5 burgers.

6) No British person has the right to talk about the quality of food. Ever.

yup pretty much that's the America no one outside of the US can stand

The folks in Torino seem to like us! Hell, almost all of the music in the opening of the Olympic ceremonies was classic American pop songs.
