;)
WTF, you some kind of latent Interior Decorator or something? I think you are the first guy in High School to say that he "hates it when I'm walking around and some high school chick is walking around with her nipples showing!" Your real name isn't Christopher Lowell is it?

Red... you used the be the king of sarcasm... what has happened to you? You can't see it when it's staring you right in the face...

btw, I'm not in high school. I'm 22...
Dude, I never let someone elses sarcasm get in the way of a good flame!:)

I come from a very, very poor family in a very, very wealthy area (Cape Cod, MA). You don't even WANT to know how much my parents yearly income was. I always got my clothes from Goodwill or outlet stores because they were very inexpensive there. I still dessed nicely though, Polo shirts, Dockers, etc. Being poor is no excuse for dressing like a slob. If my school had uniforms, I wouldn't have cared. I wasn't going to school to make a fashion statement.

All against one.... that is pretty normal for ATOT.

Maybe because they were up past 5 or 6 am the night before and frankly don't care about their appearance.

blah blah blah it doesn't affect you, so mind your own business.

I pay school tax. That makes it my business.
So because you pay school taxes you feel that entitles you to tell others how to dress?
rolleye.gif

Absolutely. Do as you please, just don't ask me to pay for it. As long as I'm paying to support public schools, I'll say what I want, thank you.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you have no children and are probably in high school yourself.
Why don't you explain here to the court of public opinion exactly how your school taxes give you say over other people's children and the way they dress? How does that negatively affect YOUR child's education?

Not that it matter in this discussion, but my kids go to a school that requires uniforms.

Studies have shown that school uniforms are beneficial to students.

I want the most bang for my buck for my tax dollars.

Hence, I am for school uniforms.

Im a bit late on the reply here but...

If parents want to get the most 'bang for the buck' out of the public education system, they need to be a aprt of it, not just ask for the schools to do it all. These are kids were talking about here, not #&$*%(@ tax dollars. Want your kid to do well in school? help the kid, pay attention to the kid, DISCIPLINE THE LITTLE BASTARD, and maybe even try attending a PTO/PTA meeting or two. Compared to that, uniforms do nothing to improve education in today's society.

Stop looking for the quick fix, and do what actually needs to be done... be a parent. Wanna know why education in this country is going to hell? It's because everyone is more concerned about what the kids wear than what they learn.

Hey.. Wow.. I hate this topic, I hate the original poster..I've never been more annoyed by a topic.. God.. Original poster-don't you realize that some people just can't afford nice clothing? I'm not poor and I can't afford "nice" clothing.. Ever see how much a nice shirt costs? Are you aware that some people raise a family on $30,000 a year.. That's a family of four.. I'm sorry, but you must be the type of fascist bastard that believes that if they can't afford to have nicely dressed kids then they shouldn't have kids.. You sicken me.. You really do.. Want to get your way? Donate lots and lots of money to a local, inner-city school... God, it really sickens me that you look at these unfortunate kids and judge them based on what type of clothing that they wear.. God.. I'm ranting.. but.. God.. You piss me off.. Christ, don't you get it - education is the only thing that will enable them upward mobility! If they make it going to school wearing ratty clothes, hopefully their children will be able to wear stuff that's worthy of your approval.. until then.. fvck off..

I'm seriously hoping this is sarcasm (my sarcasm meter is broken at the moment) but if you're serious, I simply don't know what to say to this statement. This is just as absurd as Riprorin saying that uniforms make kids good, clean, upright citizens. Not to mention that I don't trust any statement that compares an American debate to Communism, that's just another version of McCarthyism. So, I'll assume this was meant in jest ;)

Hah, earlier today my mom was commenting on how this guy was sagging. I was like, "It doesn't affect you, so who cares?" She said it was in a manner that it "offended her." I told her to get a life, the kid isn't hurting anyone and that if it offends her so much she shouldn't be looking at where kids have their pants at."

I go to a public school WITH a dress code... and the parents aren't required to sign anything, allowed to argue, NOTHING. This town sucks so much donkey balls, its full of stupid rednecks and bigots. :|

I have been told there is nothing legally anyone could do about the uniforms thing. :|

Geez, all schools should have uniforms or at the very least, a dress code.

I go to a private school with uniforms. Kids still can make themselves look like slobs, it's unbelievable! Some kids are just dirty kids.

Best reason in the world to get a good education so you can move as far away from that place as possible!

Do you know where this "fashion" came from?

In jail, inmates are not allowed to wear a belt so their pants tend to sag.

Great role models.

What a bunch of intolerarnt Nazi's here.

My support of school uniforms is backed up by numerous studies demonstrating the benefits.

The response has been generally ad hominem attacks, grandstanding, and pontification.

Can't you do better?

Well then, let's just start arresting everyone who doesn't have their pants jacked up to Urkel-Approved level! That'll cut down crime in a few years!

School uniforms have been a long standing idea. I first saw the idea in a film in the mid-1930s. Problem was, it was a little hard to understand because the narration was in German.

Why don't you wear yours around your ankles? Maybe you'll trip and fall on your head and remove yourself from the gene pool.

Uniforms are cheaper for parents, especially when kids demand the latest designer fashions.
If your kids are demanding the same kinds of clothes as their peers, tell them to get a job to help support the desire to wear some fashion brands. High school may not be a fashion parade, but for some, it is. Guess I was easy, jeans and a T shirt was more than enough for me.

You posted a link to ONE study supporting your position. I posted a link listing a bunch of studies that were inconclusive. Your assertion that there are "numerous studies" indicating uniforms are beneficial to students is crap since there are just as many studies saying they don't do anything.

Lots of links on this page.

Bibliography from this site.

Links to more studies.

Read through those listings. The conclusions are pretty evenly divided between "they're good", "they're bad" and "they don't do anything".
