Of all the beautiful, grounded, down to earth, genuinely great personalities I came across regularly in California, I found all of them to be genetically of the canine species.

Of 34million people living in the state - you only found good personalities in dogs... which means:

People who recently moved from other states
People from other countries
People who don't like CA
Everyone else

Those all fall into your example - sounds like you like people less than dogs in general. If you cant find good people out of 34 million, maybe its more a reflection of your self than of the state

I never said I met everyone.

In fact there was a short pudgy white ex-school teacher living under the Golden Gate Bridge that I never get a chance to meet and admittedly he could have changed my impression of the state, but sometimes you just have to go with your gut instincts.

Rumor has it that NASA once had plans to move their headquarters to Orange County because of generous tax breaks, but it was nixed by local politicians when NASA adamantly refused to admit that the earth, sun, and other planets of our solar system revolved around Malibu Beach.

:music:Here in this hopeless f***ing hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any f***ing time. Any f**ing day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Cause I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna see it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.:music:

California != LA

Tool made Ænima as a tribute to Bill Hicks, and especially this song. So, I wouldn't read too much into it. Also, they're from LA (which doesn't necessarily mean they don't hate it, but just some more info to consider).

californias biggest problems are pollution and traffic. the cost of living is too high and houses in most cities are way overpriced for their size, as is everything in the supermarkets.
Barely anyone carpools, most people drive suvs, crime rate is high, the beaches aren't all that, and the mountains are ok, but they aren't the rockies.

On the good side, the weather is nice.

I'm in anaheim hills btw.

Gun laws are crazy, car regulations are crazy, people are crazy. did i miss something?

Also, everyone remember that OC != LA. They have some similarities, but many differences (Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach are all O.C.); a lot of CA's smugness image comes from OC and the portrayals of it.

I grew up there and I can testify that it's 100% true.

That is most certainly true but unfortunately for California to the rest of the planet almost all they see and know about California comes from LA and to a lesser extent San Francisco and in their minds California=LA.

Maybe i should change the thread to... "Outside of LA and the surrounding communities, do you hate CA?"

I think if people were forced to look at it like that, then sentiments would change. Most Californians don't like LA either

Malibu beach isn't all that either. What gets me is how california in general is the natural preservation and environmental concern state and in malibu they build all the crappiest houses between the PCH and the beach. If the government had any sense they would blight the houses and bulldoze them, and restore the beach.
Laguna beach would be nice if it wasn't such a snobby little tourist trap.

California!=LA is the same as NY!=NYC, CO!=Denver

What has SF done for anyone lately? The only reason SF hasn't gravitated toward LA is because Contra Costa County sucks so much.

At least California has Cupertino. No smugness about that little town. (sarcasm)

LA is congested, but it's still a lot of fun. The fact remains, CA is a tough state to leave. It has so much to offer in the way of activities, climates, diverstiy of culture and people. One city in CA has as much diversity, if not more than the entire midwest combined.

If you don't like people talking about how they miss it, or that they think it's better, then don't listen. If you prefer the small town life with no diversity, that's your opinion, Californians aren't sitting around writing threads on how much small town or non-CA residents love/hate their hometowns, or about the lack of diversity and high level of closemindedness that exists in the rest of the country.

Yeah Northern California. The closer you get to LA the more the Stereotype becomes true. The Problem with SoCal is that it's become so god damned crowded plus all the Mexicans moving there. Even those from SoCal are complaining about it, especially all the Mexicans. Unfortunately the Bay Area is starting to overpopulated and resembling SoCal (minus all the Illegal Mexicans)

No one wants to admit it, but its petty envy - California is by far the most successful and influential state and that causes a lot of resentment. For a lot of people this is made even worse by the fact that CA is leftist and their ideology doesn't let them think such places can be successful.

Oh bullsh!t. I was born and raised in CA. I choose to leave.

CA is successful DESPITE the leftist laws, not because of them. If CA didn't have the terrain, ports and the weather, it would fail miserably.

And like I said, I don't hate CA. I just hate most of the people.
Well at least you did your part and moved out making there one less asshole to deal with in California;)

BTW I use to think that there was California and then maybe the other Western States and Florida with the rest being undesirable places to live. Even when I first moved to Mass I thought it sucked but after living here for 4 years I've come to like it..well between the months of April and early December:laugh:

Mexican as in from Mexico, not of Hispanic heritage. One good thing about the illegal Mexicans, it has all the Blacks, Whites and Asians united against them

Then just say illegal mexicans. The illegal ones do not represent any of the Mexicans I know, myself included.

We have everything. The only thing we don't have is Las Vegas, but that's just next door. ;):p

EDIT: Oh, our history is pretty cool too.

It's not that I hate Californians per-say, but as an Oregonian I think I speak for us all when I say we'd rather you just stop moving here.

Are you a Mexican or an American of Mexican heritage? Almost all Californians grew up with fellow Californians of Hispanic or Mexican heritage and we all got along fine. .
