I don't hate CA. I just hate most of the people in CA. :p

I grew up there. I'm allowed to bash it.

As a Californian, I hate our crappy way left state government. But the moment I here somebody insulting all Californians by assuming that we all are like that should be punched in the face.
To the guy who posted to the Tool lyrics. There is a reason they are called Tool. I would love to meet that coward bastard Maynard, or whatever his name is and kick his bitchy ass.
No matter what state I would live in, I would get pissed when people start generalizing.

I'm not a native Kahleeforneeyan, but was sent here almost 20 years ago...for a 6-8 week construction job...and never left. I LIKE it here overall. Yeah, just like everywhere else, it has it's problems, (high taxes, way too many illegal immigrants, pollution, etc) but life here is pretty good. LOTS of jobs, (may not always be the job you want for life, but you CAN find work to feed the family until you do find the one you want long term) A WIDE variety of climates, from alpine and cold winters (Tahoe) to desert & dry (inland southland) to cool and moist (most of the coast). IMO, most people base their short-sighted opinions of Kahleeforneeya on 2 things...The whackos who live in the San Fran-Sissy bay, (including Bezerkley and Haywierd) and the self-centered me-me's in the LA-LA basin...;)
Surprisingly, MOST of the state isn't that way, but instead, is filled with good people...

I've lived in Indiana (3 years), Michigan (16 years), Massachusetts (3 years), Texas (1 year), and now California (4 years). I prefer California, you really can't beat the weather and the availability of good, varied food and entertainment. It's nice being able to rollerblade at the beach in the morning and go snowboarding later in the day. There are jerks in every state, but thanks to the variety of people here (and all the non-native Los Angelinos), anyone who tries could easily make this place their own.

California is a pretty big business area, and quite important to the whole country. That said, it sounds like it sucks ass. Retarded laws, crippling taxes atronomical housing prices, horrible traffic and just plain to many people. I would only hate California if I had to live there though. Its got great weather I guess...but I've got a coat and a hat, California's problems can't be worked around nearly as easily.

Because Californians go on and on about how great it is.

And oh yeah, the stupid laws.

That is pretty much it IMO.

I know a couple transplants who go "In California this..." and "California is better than everywhere else including here because..." all the time. Give it a rest already.

It never ceases to amaze me that people will move from state A to state B and do nothing but tell people how badly state B sucks and how great it is in state A. If it is so great in state A wtf are you doing in state B then?

That's what I think every time I have to listen to it. It is definitely most pronounced with the Californians though. The New Yorkers and the few Texans I know are not nearly so obnoxious about it.

I think CA is ok for the most part except for LA. I just find LA extremely pretentious.

i've lived here my whole life with visits up to a month long to Wisconsin, Texas, Florida, NY, Washington, Colorado, Kentucky, and Idaho. I like CA best, but i could live in FL or Wisconsin b/c i liked them too. But honestly, every state has their yahoos... CA just has more of them thx to SF and LA

I don't care that you live near LA. I don't care that you make $200k. I don't care that your house cost $1M. And I don't care that you drive a Benz.

Yet you felt compelled to post that diatribe.

The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any f***ing time. Any f**ing day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Cause I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna see it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.:music:

No one wants to admit it, but its petty envy - California is by far the most successful and influential state and that causes a lot of resentment. For a lot of people this is made even worse by the fact that CA is leftist and their ideology doesn't let them think such places can be successful.

The only thing that will get me out of California is the ridiculous cost of living. I'd like to own a home someday, not a POS 1 bedroom condo for the same price I could get a good home elsewhere.

Yep, that's how I feel. Thanks for the comment though.

And to foghorn, I posted the Tool lyrics as I felt it was relavent to this thread, and I think it sums up how many people feel about CA (mainly Southern Cal). I'm not so ignorant to believe ALL Californians are like that, but there are enough of you that are, that people now think of that when they think of Californians. Right or wrong, that's how it is.

Oh bullsh!t. I was born and raised in CA. I choose to leave.

CA is successful DESPITE the leftist laws, not because of them. If CA didn't have the terrain, ports and the weather, it would fail miserably.

And like I said, I don't hate CA. I just hate most of the people.

It's a state with a little bit of everything... desert, mountains, beach, etc. It has jobs from agriculture to high tech. It has 2 of the largest cities in the Nation. It has usually great weather year round. It costs a lot to live here b/c it has so much to offer. Yes there are some ridiculous laws/regulations enacted by our gov. But look at our president - we're not the only ones that make dumb voting choices.

Generalizations about the population seem so funny to me. Northern CA and Southern CA have 2 different feels to them - different mindsets, yet people don't make the distinguishment when mocking the state.

If you have a problem with CA, why? And what state are you from.

OMFG, you're not qualified to post this rant, since you obviously don't interact with Californians much, either in person or even electronically. :Q

I don't consider online conversations 'meeting' someone. Most of the people i know like CA, but want to leave b/c of the cost of living. But they don't feel that any other state offers everything CA does so they continue to stay

Of all the beautiful, grounded, down to earth, genuinely great personalities I came across regularly in California, I found all of them to be genetically of the canine species.

People outside the US like it. I'd probably never go to America but if I was to go anywhere it would be CA or NY.

So people in California aren't allowed to have a sense of humor?

Of 34million people living in the state - you only found good personalities in dogs... which means:

People who recently moved from other states
People from other countries
People who don't like CA
Everyone else

Those all fall into your example - sounds like you like people less than dogs in general. If you cant find good people out of 34 million, maybe its more a reflection of your self than of the state
