It's called a double standard. I'm not saying that I have any feelings on the topic as I hate white supremicists as much as the next guy, but it does seem a little silly to me to be obsessed with a single culture when there are so many great cultures out there to experience 🙂

I agree. White culture needs to be looked at too. Bluegrass and country are great "white" music. While rap is considered more "black" music.

But the OP has to understand that heritage is very important to some cultures. Maybe not the "white" culture mostly because for most of them they are not immigrants (the ones who are would love German sausage and drink warm beer). Immigrants especially ones from cultures taht have an established heritage are proud of that. As a person who lacks a heritage because the US is a melting pot and your heritage got lost in the process, you shouldn't belittle others for having that pride. Being proud of where you come from isn't bad. It becomes bad only when that pride become devisive.

If I moved to Taiwan or to China, I would probably be stressing my American heritage.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Royal throne in England passed to a different bloodline in about 500 years ago (about 500 years after William the Conqueror).

I'm pretty sure the modern royal family are not direct descendants of the early kings of England (early 2nd millennium).

I have seen people obsessed with their heritage, but not to an extreme that would make me want to complain. I, for one, am proud of where I come from. Besides listening to indie rock, I also listen to spanish rock, salsa and ballenato. I love eating Peruvian food ( not because it's part of my heritage but because it's goddamn good food). The key word in your questions is "obsessed", I am proud of my Incan Heritage but I am not obsessed about it. I have learnt everything there is to learn about it when I was in school back in my country. However, I don't go out telling all my friends about it (helll...I am not even in the spanish club at my uni....now that I think about it I should sign up, there are many hot chicks in there 😀).

I am a granddaughter of Ybor City and I'm married to a true Florida Cracker. I think it is cool to know your history. It gives life flavor.

The question is, why wouldn't you be at least somewhat intrigued by your family history? That would tell me much more about a person, if he or she had no interest, than if he or she did!
