What about Irish people on St. Patrick's day? Why aren't you complaining about them, Hitler?

Fact: Most Irish people on St Patrick's Day are not celebrating their heritage, they're celebrating drunkenness.

isn't that their heritage?

Enjoy your cheeseburger tubby.

I'm 5 foot eleven and I weigh 120lbs and I look like a Anorexic Junkie.

And I'm very self centered, narrow minded and foolish, moreso that 99% of the people on this forum, but I don't consider eating some 100 year old dish that was once eated (sp) by village people to be "cultured." though most of my meals have some kind of culture growing on them

"Cultured" is art, philosophy, and sophistication and my head is about to explode due to all the hot noxious gas stored in it

Only a wise man wouldn't say that.

Another tidbit to think about:

Walk down the street yelling "girl power" or "black power" and you are considered empowered. Walk down the street shouting "white power" and you'll get a mob of about a thousand people to kick your @ss.

It's called a double standard. I'm not saying that I have any feelings on the topic as I hate white supremicists as much as the next guy, but it does seem a little silly to me to be obsessed with a single culture when there are so many great cultures out there to experience :)

I agree. White culture needs to be looked at too. Bluegrass and country are great "white" music. While rap is considered more "black" music.

But the OP has to understand that heritage is very important to some cultures. Maybe not the "white" culture mostly because for most of them they are not immigrants (the ones who are would love German sausage and drink warm beer). Immigrants especially ones from cultures taht have an established heritage are proud of that. As a person who lacks a heritage because the US is a melting pot and your heritage got lost in the process, you shouldn't belittle others for having that pride. Being proud of where you come from isn't bad. It becomes bad only when that pride become devisive.

If I moved to Taiwan or to China, I would probably be stressing my American heritage.

JLGatsby - Watch the film "The Color of Fear." That should answer your question, and if/when you do watch it, please feel free to post your review of it.

I am a verified descendant of William the Conqueror, and as a result, I am related to the Queen of England and the royal family. (I am 1\2 English)

But again... big deal. :p

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Royal throne in England passed to a different bloodline in about 500 years ago (about 500 years after William the Conqueror).

I'm pretty sure the modern royal family are not direct descendants of the early kings of England (early 2nd millennium).

I have seen people obsessed with their heritage, but not to an extreme that would make me want to complain. I, for one, am proud of where I come from. Besides listening to indie rock, I also listen to spanish rock, salsa and ballenato. I love eating Peruvian food ( not because it's part of my heritage but because it's goddamn good food). The key word in your questions is "obsessed", I am proud of my Incan Heritage but I am not obsessed about it. I have learnt everything there is to learn about it when I was in school back in my country. However, I don't go out telling all my friends about it (helll...I am not even in the spanish club at my uni....now that I think about it I should sign up, there are many hot chicks in there :D).

Question for JLGatsby:

What is the process you go through before you launch one of these threads? Is it a manic thing where you get super-psyched up and rearing for battle? Do you get loud drunk or slam a few dozen Mountain Dews then hit the keyboard? The stamina with which you maintain your position is amazing, the shear output leaves me in awe.

You have to be in sort of a "zen state" of lunacy. :D It's like a martial art.

Your sarcasm, if that is indeed what you are going for, isn't exactly helping your case:D

Aye, but its also that sarcasm that makes me 100% sure he's getting one hell of a kick out of watching people get worked up over the sh!t he says, smart man.

Why cant I be obsessed with my heritage? This is how America remains diverse and inviting to people of other cultures.
QFT, its how America has remained a "melting pot" for so long

Because it makes life more interesting... it helps you to understand where you come from, who you are, and inspire you to dream of what you might be.

I am a granddaughter of Ybor City and I'm married to a true Florida Cracker. I think it is cool to know your history. It gives life flavor.

The question is, why wouldn't you be at least somewhat intrigued by your family history? That would tell me much more about a person, if he or she had no interest, than if he or she did!

LOL, that's right.

On my father's side, I have a Galician great grandfather. They are the Celts who settled in NW Spain. Awesome history and culture. :)

Firstly I dont really understand why you cant be proud of something if it was not your choice.

Because you didn't earn it.

You cannot be proud of something you did not earn or help create yourself.

Which is why toddlers are so proud of their own poop, yes.

Will you give it a rest with all of this Rand crap. Don't you read other books as well?

Yes I read other books but I find them intellectually weak.

That is such an awesome answer, I don't even know what to say.

But Ayn Rand is so senior year of high school.
