I am mixed, Caucasian and African American. I am considered African American because I am ~50% African American. Most people would say I am "white" in my mannerisms, whatever that means. I don't consider myself as any particular race. I am me. Being white or black does not make me who I am.
I feel that my approach has spared me the "opportunity" of experiencing any discrimination. I don't think that when people look at me they see an "Black" person or a "White" person. I may be wrong because i don't know what people think, but I have never been treated as such.
I would personally feel embarrassed to be associated with African Americans, many of them complain about how race plays a factor. I disagree. I think they way many of them act determine how they are treated. The majority of their mannersims happen to fit into the typical stereotype society has in place.
I honestly don't know why some people are so obsessed with their heritage. I think that in America, and maybe the world, we put an emphasis on representing your "roots". Instead of promoting world citizenship, which is what I feel we should be doing. We are all human, granted a little different.
