Reasons why I get angry.
Cut off in traffic....
Construction delays slow down traffic...
People who drive too slow get in my way and make me late for things in traffic...
Freight Trains that take forever to clear the intersection, delaying traffic...
People who don't look where they are going while in traffic...
People who drive slow in the left lane in traffic...

I don't see belief as having any real impact as for as why people are angry, I think most people get angry for the same reasons... pretty much anything that lowers the quality of one's life.

Me, I am mostly angry about traffic, because I spend an extra hour a day in my car that I would rather spend doing something else.... If there was no congestion, and everybody drive the maximum safe speed, my commute would take an hour less every day.

you should try fapping while in traffic. would really spice up your day, lower the BP a bit.

Okay I get it you don't believe. But why the anger and venom for something you know without a doubt doesn't exist? I can see why Jesus was crucified. There is some serious hate going on.

Your thinking of Muslim extremists. It's wrong to compare your typical hardworking American Christian with those psycho's.

No I understand you're a non believer and accept that as your belief. I'm just not going to waste the energy to get into an all caps typing e-peen contest. I was just wondering why you guys get so angry. I don't see a bunch of hate for lepracauns or unicorns since you tie religion with them also. My point is deep inside you know there is a God and for whatever reason you've hardened your heart towards Him. Any chance you get to speak badly of Him you'll take it.

You are clearly acting like just another typical Christian psycho trying to condemn others who do not agree with you, and a hopeless forum troll.

Believing in that which does not exist is something children frequently do, which is perfectly fine, but as an adult it becomes is a debilitating mental illness and a sickness and is caused by brainwashing and indoctrination.

Just because a lot of otherwise normal acting people think it's OK to brainwash their kids and recruit others into believing a hopeful religious fantasy, does not make it so or right. People who are brainwashed simply cannot understand anything else but the dogma they are spoon fed, and are confused by the attitudes of others who disagree with them, just like you are.

You are on a Holy War right now, and have made ATOT your battleground, which is why you started the topic. And you did it just to condemn others who don't believe or share your fairy tale beliefs.

Clearly, you picked the wrong forum and the wrong topic to post this, since you don't even understand the subconscious reasons why you posted it in the first place.

Athiest aren't so much about not believing in God, a god or gods, it's more about making fun of, raising doubt and debating against Christianity. Every once in a while an athiest will make fun of a Muslim, but it's rare.

Athiest...the new Mormons.
I'm an atheist and have a much bigger problem with islam than christianity. Christianity is silly and mostly only somewhat harmful. Islam is all about murder.

I am not angry about religion or atheism. I find it hard to be violently opinionated about either because both try to prove or disprove the existance of something that cannot be answered until we die. As stated before the basis of all theologic debate stems from one unanswerable question: does the human conscious exist beyond the physical? I cannot answer this for although I have an opinion I have no logical or empiric proof to base an argument on.

What I do dislike is human behavior. If God exists, the Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnibenevolent god, then I find it illogical that this god would instruct his followers toward any malignant behavior. I also must agree that many recent secular political agendas, such as that in the USSR, have persecuted religious freedom simply because they saw it as competition for power.

The theology is above this, yet most fail to be able to discuss it with any civility. The discussion of good and evil are quite facinating, and both the athieistic and theistic discussions can be used to improve ones self.

Anger and preaching are simply attempts to force ones opinion on others, I for one am willing to respect the others position. I hope that everyone that I meet with a different perspective is able to discuss logically and respectfully, because this adds to my experience, and my knowledge.

I may not believe in God as much as the OP, but any scorn I have is directed towards the religious fanatics/zealots.

If there is one thing I sincerely believe in with regards to religion, it is that the most "godly" people in appearance may not necessarily be so. Note the word "may not". When I think religious I don't think that they're necessarily honest, ethical, etc. I just think that they're people who adhere to a certain belief system regarding God.

To cite just but a few examples, Robert Hansen (Opus Dei), Stanford Financial (Christian), and Osama Bin Laden (Muslim) are proof that religious piety has no bearing on good character and law-abiding behavior. Religious people can be as flawed as non-believers...

Religion doesn't do anything for the world. People don't need religion to tell them to be decent human beings, and without religion people would still find plenty of reasons to kill each other. Religion is just a waste of time.

I don't know what's going on on this thread but I would like to make a point.

I came to be an atheist through much thought and research.
Now I consider myself a secular humanist.

Others arrive at their conclusion cos it is one more thing for them to hate.

I actually bet Moonbeam has a good answer for this. Sometimes anger and ridicule can be used to fill a void of insecurity. We all do it.

I am not angry myself, but consider myself a nonbeliever. The best reasons I can come up with for anger are

1. Inability for many religious people to keep their religion or beliefs to themselves

2. The belief that organized religion is a lie. I would think the natural reaction to an untruth foisted on so many by self-serving entities and people would be anger

Spite is not a good reason to eschew belief.

Every day religion, in some way, shapes the politics of the world, is being taught to new generations of kids, and plays a role in the death of hundreds, if not thousands, of people.

Obviously it's a hot and important topic.

As soon as a law is passed which states that government buildings are open from 9pm to 5am to accommodate vampires, you will understand why Atheists are so anti-religion.

I'm not angry about religion. I don't think most atheists are angry about religion. We're just like everyone else in speaking out when we think someone has come to an incorrect conclusion about something. It's the religious who think that their belief system should not be challenged.

Threads like this one are essentially an expression of your notion that religious ideals are unquestionable. You think that to stand up and clearly say "I think your religious beliefs are factually incorrect and here's why" is like a slap in the face. I don't know why people think that religion is not subject to debate though. We argue about everything else with no problems, yet you think religion should somehow be "protected" from the scathing light of skepticism. That's an understandable reaction from someone who doesn't want to be robbed of a false philosophy that gives them comfort, but not a reaction that is characteristic of someone who is in search of the truth. God doesn't stand up so well to skepticism it seems. The way that religion has protected him from skepticism by making open religious doubt an ingrained taboo indicates that somewhere deep in their subconscious, Christians always knew he had no leg to stand on.

So what seems like an inordinate amount of anger on the part of atheists is really just a normal amount of argumentative frustration combined with your ingrained social taboo kicking in and saying: "You can't say that...you just can't".

That might be a nice bumper sticker, but doesn't represent reality.
Sorry for the sound bite but it really does hold the root of animosity. I won't bother with a wall of text to get there so we can disagree about it,
Without rancor:)

Jesus said turn cheek and yet there were the crusades, the inquisition, conquests throughout europe and then the new world all in the NAME of religion. The first people over were missionaries.

This is an example of people using quotes they hear and never actually taking the time to find out what it means for themselves. When Jesus said turn the other cheek it was about forgiving someone not that if someone hits you or attacks you that you should let people do it. It was a metaphor not a literal statement.

This is the one area where I do get upset with people and discussing religion. They always quote things they heard people say as being what the bible itself says. Worst they take actions that people do as being those that the religion itself supports based on these popular sayings and not judging those actions on what the actual religion says.

I was guilty of this myself in thinking Islam was a hate filled religion where they believed in killing others based on what the media had promoted and what people had said. So I decided to see for myself. I picked up an english version of the Koran and started reading . What I found was NOT what the media portrayed.

So before you condemn anyone for what they believe or say things like something is an example of why religion XXXXXX is bad, read the text for yourself.
