It's perpetually fascinating how disconnected you are from evidence-based reasoning.
The Russians explicitly, repeatedly signalled their preference for Trump; they might have thought his win unlikely, but all evidence shows that they wanted it. At the least, they knew he would be softer than Clinton and would stoke social divisions (many of the Russian Facebook/Twitter meddling attempts were meant to amplify tensions).
And they're not "notoriously soft." There is no "partnership." I just think they didn't understand just how determined Putin was to recreate his ideal version of the Soviet Union. Besides, you really, really can't complain about softness when Trump is bending over backwards at every opportunity trying to please Putin, whether it's dropping funding for the Ukraine military, lifting sanctions or weakening NATO. You want someone who actually stands up to Russia? Don't vote for Trump.
