you can dance around it all you want but in the end your going to come back to the fact that atheism is your belief system. That's what you believe. And all that it entails.

Ironic who brought the subject up.

Religion is not a problem for me as long as it doesn't interfere with my life. If you need a book to follow morality or it makes you happier to rationalize death with an afterlife, so be it.

I do have problems when it spawns new rounds of crusades in the middle east, severely impacting America's economy and damaging our nation's integrity. That hurts me and this country.

a disbelief is itself a belief. atheist's theism is non belief and is their rational for not having a moral core. Anything goes for an atheist.

You could not be more wrong if you tried. But im assuming youre a theist, which explains why you are able to grasp what you just posted.

Dysfunctional beings post dysfunctional stuff.

You don't understand much about atheism.

For starters, there are different types. And there's a difference between believing that no gods exist, and not believing that gods exist.

For the record, I am an atheist and do not hate Christians. In reality nearly every friend and family member is some sort of Christian.

I just wish to clarify: We hate on all religions, not just Christianity.

Also, if you don't want us to hate on you, stop hating on us, stop trying to convert us, and for the love of FSM, stop trying to change our laws to force compliance with your beliefs!

Honestly, I've never met anyone in my 37 years on this earth, either in passing or friends or members of my family who have tried to convert anyone from one religion to another or from no religion to theirs. This is a common argument from the atheist side as to why they try to justify their agenda of hating religion, but it has no merit. If you don't want to practice a faith, then fine, that's your call, but I'm with the OP on this, don't hate on my beliefs in an effort to try to justify yours.

You're just lucky then. I've literally had discussions which started off as civil ending up with someone screaming in my face about how I'm going to hell, etc..

He's not lucky, he's just not counting a lot of things.

It's impossible to go through life in the USA without constantly being bombarded with messages encouraging you to believe in Christianity. Missionaries showing up at the door; billboards professing the bible as "absolute truth"; cutesy messages on church display boards; endless advertising during "holiday" seasons; public prayers and comments about "God" from politicians; etc.

It's unceasing.

And on top of it, yes, many people are verbally harangued about their religious (non-)choices as well.

Are you blind deaf and dumb?

*You have never driven past a chuch with a sign outside with some thinly veiled threat about what happens to non-believers?

*You have never seen a religious nutjob with a placard stood at the side of the road?

*You have never seen a news report of christians protesting outside a soldiers funeral?

*You didn't have to join in prayers at school?

*You haven't been asked to attend a church for "X" amount of services because you want to get married there (or if you are male because your partner wants to get married in a church)?

*A believer has never knocked on your door asking if you have time to talk about your lord and savior?

Of course you are already a christian so none of this would bother you, but trust me it pisses the rest of the world off. By the way your magic book specifically tells you to go out and convert non believers, some christian you are.

P.S I swear on my mothers life I just walked back from doing some shopping in town with my wife less than 2 hours ago and there was a group of 12 jehovas witnesses walking down the street knocking on doors. Got home and had a lovely leaflet to put in the bin.

If you want to walk through life with blinkers on that is your choice but the proof is all around you.

Before you mock someone else's intelligence, make sure your own house is in order.

Okay so you don't believe in it. Good for you, so why all the constant, hipster-esque hate towards people who do?

Its not like any of you have ever been seriously persecuted by a Christian (being taken to church or having someone knock on your door is not persecution). If you don't believe in something, what compels you to spend time obsessing and spewing irrational hatred? Wouldn't you just like... not care?

Its not like that kind of attitude shows severe insecurity or inadequacy or anything....

It's pretty simple; Christians are obsessed with turning their views into laws. The rest of us sort of have a problem with this. If you want to be left alone, you need to leave us alone.

What's the problem?

blinkers UK plural noun (US blinders)
two pieces of leather that are put at the side of a horse's eyes so that it can only see forward

@ OP

I love the OP's mentioning of atheists having a belief system "and all that it entails". Atheism is not a religion, people believe what they want to believe and that's that. So just because some atheists believe one thing, it doesn't mean they all do.

The comment reminds me of Stranger Than Fiction and anarchists, starting from 2:10 to 2:36:

LOL backfire on jersiq.

Wrong, everyone from the UK is dumb. :p
Indeed, crow will be served tonight.

But that's all you need to do to get these threads closed, just be as incendiary as possible.

What makes them (doers of evil things) inherently good people?

They aren't, necessarily. In the context of that quote it references those who are doing evil things for a higher cause. Those people believe that what they're doing is right, but a good many of them would not do so if religion were out of the picture.

This exactly. The homophobia in our country is one of the most embarrassing things I have to admit I used to be a part of.

Neither of those constitute "meeting".

Pretty sure the God Hates Fags crowd has no desire to convert anyone.

*You didn't have to join in prayers at school?

Pretty sure this has been prohibited longer than 37 years (although if he was 57 you'd have a valid point).

*You haven't been asked to attend a church for "X" amount of services because you want to get married there (or if you are male because your partner wants to get married in a church)?

lol wut? If it's THEIR church, how are they enforcing their religion on you if YOU want to get married there?

*A believer has never knocked on your door asking if you have time to talk about your lord and savior?

This is legitimate towards your point, but it's also pretty trivial tbh. No worse than the political proselytizers on campus or anywhere else.

I have family members who have tried and told me I'm going to hell. Their are plenty out there who do this.

You don't live under a rock do you?

I have done this myself. Back in high school I would try to convert my friends - needless to say, I've gone back and since apologized. Man, I'm glad I didn't actually convert anyone...

I have people asking me to go to religious events all the time. Although, when you look at my location, you won't be terribly surprised. :p
