Not as far as I know. Someone on another forum I visit had a link to a fileplanet. The sporepedia already has player designed monsters up, so it's not like it's some big secret. And it's the demo version, so if it's a leak, it's a leak of a demo of a demo.

Will it keep you going for 3 months until release or would it be a matter of 'been there done that' when it comes to full retail release?

You know, someone at EA needs to get a nobel prize for business for this one. Talk about turning a problem into an oppurtunity.

So your hot property new game has a problem. It requires user created content to populate the universe. Saves developer time actually making the stuff.
But, under those circumstances, upon release - when the all reviews are coming out - they'll be little to no user content available, until the users get around to making it.
So, you release the creator alone early, letting your customers get a taste of the crack you want to sell them, and getting you your release day content so there are dinosaurs in your dinosaur park.
That alone takes genius - getting the people you're selling the product to to do the work for you.
But then giving them only a piece of the creator, charging $10 - a fee small enough that at least some people will pay it in spite of the principle - for the whole thing, and making an actual profit off getting people to do you work for you?
That's friggin economic savvy right there.

Again, this is just the creature creator, not a demo of the actual game.

That being said, even the demo creature creator is a blast. It seems to have lost some of the creatures I made though, but it was incredibly entertaining and super easy to use. Theres more than enough parts to make some really interesting stuff, about 25% of the full amount. I really wouldnt see the point in actually paying for the full creator if youre actually going to buy the game.

But I can definitely see how there could be a ton of people that wouldnt be interested in the actual game, but could spend all day making creatures, and for what it is and what its capable of, $10 is reasonable. If you go to the spore website they're really emphasizing that this is a separate product, showing off Spore PC, Spore mobile, Spore DS and the creature creator as separate products.

It's pretty cool. There's a leaked demo of the demo version floating around, and i've played it at a friends house. It'll definitely be better when they give FULL content. Even with only 25% content, I continue making crazy stuff.

Given the recent dive into retarded ass DRM tactics, I'll be happy to save my money till they are dirt cheap. Given the fall experienced upon Bioshock, that shouldn't be too long.

At first I thought this game look retarded, but the more and more that I think about it the more I want to try it out b/c it sounds just plain interesting. I'll have to think before I plop down $10 on it...

also tagged for when I get back from work :)

It is well worth the 10.00
Even if it were not a component of an upcoming game.
I work in 3d and the ability the creature creator gives you to create your own creatures is simply amazing.
The ease of use they have built into the interface and the way the different parts seamlessly mix is something they have really pulled off well.
Normally to create such complex creatures I would have to sit for hours tweaking meshes and still would not have the ability to animate it that easily.

I think its worth it just for the fun of creating.

created 2 creatures with the demo version. seems kind of cool but it's very limited.

I kind of want to get the pay version but i'm not so sure i'd really spend that much time with it to make it worth it. I'm also not sure if i'd be buying Spore. I don't even really understand what the hell it is you do in the game.

The demo creature creative is quite fun. I've made a few creations...

Including this little smarmy bastard.

Edit: Wow...some people make really interesting things. The recreations of zerglings/antlions/striders are also quite accurate as well (a few, at least).

After the tone-down, still the most restrictive DRM in the business, tied with ME and Bioshock - nope, they aren't getting my money.

Downloaded and it is indeed very fun :). I probably will pickup the full version- it is amazing what people have come up with already, my creatures are still rather rudimentary but I am getting there.

The trial is fun, I created a bunch of creatures yesterday, but today I opened CC and went to the Catalog, and none of them show up! It says (19) next to My Creations, but there is nothing in the Choose a Creature section. grrrr....
