Again, see 2016.

Yes, that experiment with the “clean slate / no political baggage” candidate has worked splendidly so far. I have no reason to think Michelle Obama can’t do the job but I think many will want someone with some non-zero amount of experience next go around.

You seem perfectly pleased with Trump.

Nope. Better to run *for* something/anything than try and be the anti-trump. I suspect that it doesn't actually matter though as I believe that Trump will be a 2 term president. (if we haven't reached Armageddon in the meantime)

Yup “When they go low we go high” worked good didn’t it.

Nikki Haley - tough, respected internationally and wide support from a broad political spectrum

Seth Moulton - a new breed of Democrats born of frustrated veterans

Joe Biden - should have run last time, would be the right choice now

Patty Murray - bipartisan and what the GOP used to look like

Charlie Baker - one of the most popular governors in the country

Bernie Sanders - too old but still on point

Jerry Brown - any liberal governor that can keep the asylum in order and balance the budget is a good choice in my book

I definitely agree with Biden. No one is more perfect for this country right now. I worry that he is too old, and maybe not into it right now. who knows...

Jerry Brown, the guy is competent and effective as anyone. He doesn't give a fuck about the critics and for the most part, he just makes everything work. But also, old as hell. I dunno.

I wanna like Nikki Haley, I do, but she's accumulated so many sound bites this year of a thoroughly distasteful nature that I both have no clue what she is and can't imagine her being any kind of serious leader.

....but then we have Trump. But of course no one else should be Trump. So I don't think horrible people saying horrible things is really out of the door just because of Trump. Well, fuck--I hope it isn't, anyway.

Michelle Obama has no reason to run or experience for anyone to vote for her.

Trump: a cvnt with zero experience. And no reason for any human to vote for him.

but they did. And he's currently poised to be the worst fucking leader in the history of humanity, with very little debate.

At least Michelle is 0-2 for those traits.

Dr. Rand Paul would be an excellent choice, He is very supportive on civil liberties, supports justice reform, non-interventionist foreign policy and is fiscally conservative.

Rand Paul stands for everything, until he stands for nothing, and then he stands for everything again. ....except for Rand Paul.

You've been duped by a carnival barker. Go fucking figure.

My choice as of today. Joe Biden

Others I would like to see run

Jerry Brown - D - P
Mike Bloomberg - R - P
Kamila Harris - D - VP
John Kasich - R - P
Marco Rubio - R - VP
Corey Booker - D - VP
Eric Holder - D - P

Just off the top of my head

Kamala Harris was a prosecutor. I am fine with senators being prosectors, but a US president should not have had a prior job ruining the lives of dozens if not hundreds of people for nonviolent drug offenses. You simply cannot be a US prosecutor and not be willing to terrible things to get ahead. If it was between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris I would not vote. Imagine all the insane things a prosecutor would allow the NSA or CIA to do? She would not only let them run wild, she'd probably give them extra special powers. At least trump is incompetent and can be depended on to screw anything he wants up.... if Kamala wants to re-criminlaize marijuana she could do it. NEVER trust US lawyers, ESPECIALLY prosecutors.

I hope Elizabeth Warren runs. Yes she was a lawyer but at least she wasn't a prosector.

You project the GOP modus operandi of radicalism onto Dems. The Dems sure as Hell didn't pander to the "far left" nearly as much as the GOP pandered to the deplorables.

They're all the same so just tear it all down & watch it burn, right?

Pander to the... far left?

What, you mean a candidate that would actually take care of and... HELP people? Golly gee... think of the shame, the horror! Think of the children! How dare someone feed them?! I know Americans are scared and curled up into a fetal position over the idea of an insurance provider large enough to actually do its damn job and protect people... but at some point you have to go "what the !@#$" and just drag the infants kicking and screaming to the food tray. How else are they going to learn to stop drooling in the corner and !@#$ing themselves?

John Hickenlooper would make a good compromise candidate. He ran a small business before becoming the Democratic governor of a purple state.

I wouldn't mind Warren, but she has to settle this Pocahontas thing once and for all. Get a DNA test or genealogical proof. Or she'll look like a liar.

I'm trying to imagine Republicans spending 2020 screaming Pocahontas all day long. And... winning?

Oh no, she's a liar. Maybe she can study 2016 and learn how liars win elections. It's certainly possible.

Not much to study there. Keep lying accuse those who call out your lies as lying and then move on never to speak about it again. The key is to always have a new lie ready.

Correction the key is to always have at least 3 new lies ready and to be 4-5 lies ahead at all times. Then no one can keep up.

Conservatives often characterize anybody center or left as "far left" because they've marched so far right that they're over the horizon. If Dems pandered to the "far left" in America they'd be talking to an empty room.

History of the US, sure. But humanity has a long history of some really terrible leaders. Trump is trying his hardest to emulate them, but he doesn't have the power some of those incompetents had to be able to fuck up as badly. It will however at this point take a miracle from the combined might of Yahweh, Zeus, Odin, Ahura Mazda, Ganesh, and Osiris for Trump to not be the worst US leader ever.

That was my thinking. He has no spine. He backs down from every fight in which he could stand on principle.

It seems to me that apart from being First Lady that Michelle Obama doesn't offer any experience either. I'm guessing that given the Trump experience voters will want a non-zero amount of experience but not so much the candidate has decades of track record to criticize. IMHO age will still be a concern but less of one than not being a "lifetime politician" thus someone like Elizabeth Warren might work, but someone like Nancy Pelosi probably would not. Corey Booker might be in the perfect sweet spot of not too much or not too little of any one consideration (age, experience, political leanings, etc). I don't really know enough about Kamala Harris to render an opinion but she might fit that bill also.

Because we all know if there's one thing America won't accept in a president it's lying.

Nah. Not the best personality to run.
Who are some of your choices, on both sides. Serious question
Personally the only Dem I can think of that may have a chance is Elizabeth Warren. Trump will run assuming he's not in prison by then, and will beat her imo....especially if NK negotiations go well.

If I had my druthers though...Lieberman and Kasich would be my picks.

Out of the box candidate not that he would do it.

Neil deGrasse Tyson

No government experience but smart enough to put people around him that do. Want someone who will divorce religion from government

Ain't that the truth. Probably the most useless speaker of the house since Wilber Mills.

EDIT: My brain translated your description of Rand Paul into Paul Ryan. Maybe mild stroke.
