I only like pokemon, but thats actually a american made cartoon from what the real anime fans say. Yes its 100 % crap.

A very comprehensive list of the GOOD anime series that are out are still going.
My recommendations:

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (season 1 & 2) almost like a near-future CSI/The Shield kinda theme
Scrapped Princess
Last Exile
Great Teacher Onizuka
Hack Sign ( <-- this one is very interesting if you're into MMORPGs or programming)

sutepri was quite enjoyable, coulda have been better and rushed ending but i liked it a whole lot better than other series mentioned in this thread.

as for bebop, i dont see much sense of humor there.. maybe Mushroom Samba, other than that the series does not have a heavy emphasis on comedy. for some non-stop fun try Galaxy Angel, Di Gi Charat Nyo, Cromatie or Masaru (dc, you know your stuff my man :))

Hoshi no Koe is rather short, just an OVA that resembles a music video. the remarkable part is it was done solely by Shinkai Makoto by himself. dont expect too much out of a one man squad tho, its not an end-it-all kinda anime.

Gonzo is really slipping, they done 3 shows at a time in April alone... Seeing how they messed up Chrno Crusade i have little faith left in them... Bakuten left a bad taste in my mouth :eek:

GiggityGiggity, your points really dont add up. if you dont like japanese subculture maybe you should quit playing your FF. its only natural those same japanese game developers may incorporate some of the ideas from anime industry. heck, there is FF anime too. and yeah, kill bill was retarted and if thats what you use to judge anime obviously you wouldnt be getting a right idea.

and all of you saying idiotic crap in this thread : its your loss, go watch your reality show or some average holleywood junk :D :D :D

I hate anime in general. I liked it when I was young, probably before most of you know what anime is. I just changed my taste after I grew up.

"Anime" is just a style...While most people like it just because it's from Japan, they pretend to actually like the show itself... Some "anime" shows are very cool, such as Ghost in the Shell and Escaflowne. Now, I do think the artwork in anime is much better than most american artwork, the characters seem to have more depth to them and relate very well to their appearences.

However, a lot of anime is only liked because it's from japan and fanboi's want to pretend they're cool by saying they watch Inu Yasha. For example, Trigun is pretty cool (I watched the subbed version, before we got the Toonami translated crap) and it was much cooler to me when I first watched it. Some of the Initial D movies are very cool, such as Initial D Stage 3:The Movie. I haven't seen any others, but I like the fact that it has a Celica GT-4 in it :p

I've seen Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell. Both were excellent and I enjoyed watching them.

I turn on the television to Cartoon network and I see cartoons for IDIOTS. Mucha-Loocha ? That blonde guy with suave hair? WTF is this garbage? The reason why I watch anime is because the plot is better, WELL DRAWN (even Pita-ten looks childish yet it has tons of good details in the animation).

When I raise my kids, I ain't turning my TV to American garbage. :|

I enjoy some anime. I've enjoyed Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Nausicaa(the chopped up version that was shown in the states, waiting for the full version), and a couple of series. I agree with the general statement that most of it is crap and you have to do som research to find the quality stuff.

After reading the first fifty or so posts, I have come to the following conclusions:

Those who rip on anime have a hard time seeing anything beyond the surface.
Those who are seriously obsessed with anime have a hard time dealing with reality.

That said, anime is no different than the entirety of US motion picture entertainment combined. The only difference is the medium. Viewers watch what they want to watch. If you wonder about obsessive fans with anime posters anywhere, then you should probably be concerned about the obsessive fans with posters of Sex in the City and/or their favorite movies/actors/models.

my brother made me watch FLCL. i thought it was really lame at first. by the end, i though it was... i dunno, interesting, but it didn't make me want to run out and watch more anime. the sexuality of it all is so twisted...

Anime follows sturgen's rule - 90% of everything is crap. Unfornatly, a LOT of that crap comes here. I cringe every time I see an add for Kiddy Grade -- the show so bad that in Japan they started running 2 eps a week just to fufil their contract and get it off the air faster -- yet it's the focal point of the Anime section at the major chains around here. If you want an example of two great series that are easy to find now, grab MONSTER and PandaZ. Both really easy to find on animesuki.
