Too many to list, but just off the top of my head : Lina Inverse, Tohno Akiha, Asakura Nemu and some girls from onegai twins (ichigo morino, miyafuji mina, onodera karen)
the first two even suffer from flat chest complex, you are DEAD wrong :p

err.. that's because they are depictions of girls younger than 16 years old? I think what rickn meant was "women" in anime and not just any female character.

Exactly. Just like 90% of television shows suck and 90% of movies suck. Anime simply means it is animated, it does not dictate the quality or content. There is no one specific piece that equates to everything that is anime. As such, there isn't any reason for you to hate all of it unless you simply enjoy hating things.

Someone who is intelligent with a computer comes in contact with lots of cultures. Not directly, but indirectly. Like, the internet is a giant fad system. Anything that is somewhat decent on the internet quickly hits thousands...millions of sites where many people quickly view and rate whatever the content is. Based on this, good things rise quickly to the top. Anime is one of these things. If anime TRUELY sucked, it would have sank like a rock to the bottom of the internet abyss, but it hasn't. It has grown in popularity to such a degree that a network (cartoon network) now airs random anime series.

In other words, computers break cultural barriers to a degree (and then run head on into language barriers).

there is some truth in what Judgement said, there's plenty of people out there that will love anything japanese just because it's japanese. very silly, heh. some people that come to mind are those that wear tshirts with japanese on it that they don't understand or people that use a few random japanese words in their normal conversations. "OMG! that's so kawaiiiii!!!" , etc.

I know what you mean...sometimes I can be heard saying "I HATE SUSHI!!!"

What's the deal with sushi anyway? Did the people who invented it just not have time to cook or what?

Woa Chu. You got a great list there and I agree with it all the way! Theres a few in there I havn't seen: Haibane, FLCL, Shingetsutan.

Other Series that I also enjoyed!
Ai Yori Aoshi (Did I get it right?). This is a more serious Romance series (In comparison to Love Hina). I don't know why it liked it. Most people think it was poorly done and cliched, but for some reason I enjoyed the characters a lot.

Junni Kokki / 12 Kingdoms. The hook here was really the giant baboon. Unfortunatly, like Berserk, it ended terribly.

I saw you mentioned Rahxephon and I liked that series also, but I liked Neo Genesis Evangelion also. I think NGE was really awesome, even though it made little sense (argue what you will, most people will come away going "huh?"). The main character in NGE always made me extremely mad due to his fear of doing what needed to be done. He was like a super hero but at the same time he was extremely weak, so human that it pissed you off. And then, he would just explode with such fearsome rage like a kid throwing a tantrum. I don't know, I look back on the series in a positive light, even though the main character annoyed me a lot. I especially like the follow up movies, they were very powerful.

I like Kenshin, the OAVs especially. They capture that dark atmosphere that most animes lose, action and plot combined.

Also, you mentioned Berserk. I think it should go without saying that anyone who enjoys Berserk at all (and everyone should, IMO! :D). Should deffinitely read the manga. Oh man the manga is so much better in so many ways. Sometimes I think the recent episodes of the manga have gotten a little crazy, but I still love reading it, by far the most absurd material that I enjoy reading on a regular basis. Not something for the family though :). If ever there was a badass, it is Gutts.

I'm a closet Anime fiend, I enjoy a bunch of series, but I only watch them by myself. Its cool to see a post from someone like yourself, involved in the community and such. Do you contribute to AOne releases or anything?

I actually found it odd that Lina had that complex, because it seems to me in many scenes she is surely not flat-chested.
Also, to everyone subscribing to the "anime is crap" line, do yourselves a favor and at least check out Blood: the Last Vampire. It's only about 45 minutes long, so at worst you'll be wasting about the same amount of time you would watching an hour long TV show. And it's quite good.

Yea, exactly, they are the extreme and I hate how Anime constantly gets grouped with these extreme people. It would be like if you constantly grouped MOVIES with LOTR FREAKS. IE: Anyone who watches a movie is secretly an lotr freak who dresses up like a wizard and goes to rennasaince (sp) faires.

no shame about liking one of the most popular anime of its time, as this is one of the series where they actually improved a great deal over original manga. sense of humor is nothing to write home about, some of ecchi feels out of place, but arguably one of the best romance series there is imo. I just adore the way they took the sharp edges out of original manga drawing and made everything look cute and soft - a typical J.C. Staff quality, fits the atmosphere of the story a whole lot better that way. ~Enishi~ was rather a dissapointment, although it stayed top notch visually and musically;it is missing a key element from first season's strong points : deeply moving or emotional moments (e.g. eps15 of the first season). the story grows somewhat tedious (yeah we all know having a caring family is important and all...) without much happening except for tina's departure at the end, just two episodes while at it. nevertheless "Presence" (eps9 special ending theme) is a great song, can never get enough of it :D

I actually found it odd that Lina had that complex, because it seems to me in many scenes she is surely not flat-chested.
In manga she definitely is far from flat-chested, but as far as first season goes she is somewhat flat-chested :)

while others deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth
the ones i despised the most :
toshiden
I's (dont get me wrong; i LOVED the manga, which is why this anime pisses me off even more)
spectral force
himikoden

Yes anime is crap. People who love it get really passionate about it when you bad mouth it too. This is the stupidest unexplained phenomena that I have ever seen. Grown men grasping on to cartoons (let along crappy ones) like it is the last thing on earth). This article below is just about correct, especially like the guys who think they can speak Japanese and love anything Japanese.

lol are you trying to be funny? i look like anything but that nerd in the pic. for one thing i am neither white nor a nerd. the only studio GIBRI i liked was Umi Ga Kikoeru which had no Miyazaki Hayao involvment.
being obese isnt what a person should be judged by, are you implying fat ATOTers are all losers? your article was so disturbingly ignorant i couldnt bring myself to finish it, but whichever idiot who wrote that gibberish really needs to do some homework before he puts up something so arrogantly misleading on the internet. does he even know what otaku means anyway?

I haven't read through the whole thread --
Before I pose my questions, I'm into anime (naruto, samurai champloo, gundam seed, etc) but just curious to why the characters are drawn with the googly eyes and fancy hair ... someone mentioned stereotype ... where from?

Calm down. None of the anime nerds I have ever known were fat however they all believed they spoke Japanese and were very obsessive over their precious cartoons. Plus, they loved just about everything Japanese and were jealous of them. I'd say that guy is right about 30% of what I know of anime nerds. The other 70% varries.

you must be thinking i am hot tempered as you like to stereoptype
People who love it get really passionate about it when you bad mouth it too.
but sorry bud, i must be an exception to that rule :D :D :D i am still a student in japanese, but i know enough to detect mistakes in fansubs. maybe he is right if he is only referring to 'anime nerds', whatever that means. you are not my man, not all anime watchers are nerds, maybe a small fraction of it.
