I don't watch Nascar, maybe you do, so unlike you I don't think it is improtant about the races of the individual participants. This guy isn't a hero lady, and he isn't benefitting anybody but himself, not blacks ,not whites ,not chinese, not whoever
listen up: you are entitled to your opinion and as you can see i didn't smack you down for it.

but don't discount other opinions like yours is the only correct one. got it?

Good point, I don't care about him or his selfish dreams but the issue I do care about. Boy Bill Lester is the first famous "Black Nascar Driver". Thats what I don't care about.
I may be missing somthing, but "boy?" I hope that was just unintelligible like the rest of your post and not what it sounds like.

If you're going to post about something like this, it's in your best interest to choose your words carefully.

i believe he means that like "oh boy". stop looking for racism where it's not.

Yes, I meant big deal that this "black guy " is a Nascar hero. So what. What difference does his skin color make. Anybody can drive a car .
what difference does it make for a woman to drive in the NASCAR series? same scenerio - it's great to see other races/sexes joining in.

Sure, Women want to be equals in all jobs right? Women and black men aren't the eame thing. Why the comparison?

How do you know what obstacles he had to face to get in that position?

Take a look at these census statistics: http://www.census.gov/prod/2002pubs/p23-210.pdf - look at the disparity between pay for educated blacks/hispanics and whites. I can guarantee that he most likely had to work harder than a white guy making the same amount of money.

Nothing wrong with him being a role model. But I do have issue with you and the like of you that think black folks/minority need to have role models in order to be someone in life. Balony.

I have Asian background. I don't see much Asians in sports, tv, movies, etc. then guess I will have no choice but to sell drugs and bang 20 different women and get them pregnant as fast as I can. Darn those KKK make me do that....LOL.

EDIT to response to your edit: Life IS NOT FAIR. If we live in a perfect world, then everyone will be equal but we don't. I am not bashing you for feeling compassion for those disadvance kids but I was one too but I don't blame the ...*system...men...kkk...boogey men..etc* for any obstacles in life.

Hey, he grew up in the hood (of an Abercrombie and Fitch sweater). Living on the streets. (Wall Street). He once had to pop a cap (off a bottle) just to get a drink (of imported beer). One day he was rolling through the ghetto (at 75MPH on the 405) in his hooptie (Mercedes SL500) and somebody started to disrespect him (tailgating). So he did what he had to do! (change lanes) You can't fault a brother for just taking care of buisness (talking on the cell phone).

You might not care, but I'm sure many other people out there do.

i think it's important for disadvantaged people to get a job. and i don't think they are all going to be nascar drivers. so yeah.

I agree with both statements actually.

Ryan, I see your perspective. I actually enjoy seeing asian-americans in the television entertainment industry, of which I know a few. It is inspiring to see Asians that don't fit the stereotypical East Asian persona in television and movies, so I see your point. It does elevate and give opportunities for more minorities in that field, but you have to admit fisher has a point of many poor communities out there. It seems education has become defunct in many of those communities. Now sports, music, entertainment, and the drug industry seems to be the only viable careers in many of the poor communities minds, which is ridiculous.

If you read the article fisher, you will see the driver worked a corporate management job at HP for a while before getting into Nascar driving. He was successful in the business world as well. More props to the guy.

actually i have no problems with anyone driving in nascar (it's about the lamest ~sport~ out there). but the dude isn't a hero. he didn't bust ass from a young age in his go cart he bought with lawn mowing money and grow up to be a great driver. he was rich already and decided to take up a hobby. to me a hero gets into something because of his talent, not his ability to buy his way in. that's the wrong message imho.

edit: after reading his bio it seems he DOES have a passion for racing at least, which makes him a bit more legit. he's paid his dues in the lesser circuits.

There are even places in Texas (Orange, TX) that if you are a minority and you drive through some neighborhoods, the people start to come out of their houses to point you to the freeway. ;) It is kind of funny. So bass-ackwards. ;) It is slowly changing though, and you have to realize most of these people are just ignorant, not really bad people (some are <just like in any other organization> but most are not).

One of my friends (who is asian and a geologist), ending up going to a part of Texas to study the rock structures and ended up hanging out with some skinheads. They even let him shoot a rifle at some target practice place. He told me he was slightly scared at first, but they turned out to be nice people, even though slightly ignorant.

I find it funny that white people are always the ones who bitch about people bringing up skin color. Face it - you're white, and privledged, and don't ever have the burden of being aware of your race on a daily basis.

Until you are a minority, you'll likely never understand what it's like to live as a minority in a society where white culture is the norm.

I got chased around my old neighborhood by older people who were in middle school and high school when I was in Elementary, while they all called me "beloved patriot" and would try to beat me up (they could never catch me though, ignorant punks), and I don't care. So white people are a little priviledged, and minorities have had it rough, and blah blah blah, deal with it and move on with your life. Life is unfair. When you realize this, things come into perspective. Instead of whining about it, make a name for yourself and be successful and be happy with your own life. The race card gets used way too much, like probably in this case, but if the guy genuinely think he is building up people perspective of the African-American race, more props to him.

I don't understand what's wrong about trying to bring balance to inequality.

There is nothing wrong with that, but it seems you have a chip on your shoulder about it (from this thread as well as others). By all means social justice is a primary concern in todays society as well as in my own life (I even go to a church that is trying to become a multi-ethnic church), but it works both ways. You can't always play the race card everytime someone says something that is wrong with a racial culture (mostly it isn't a race thing but a poor thing, but sometimes it is a race thing).

Exactly
