No I'm not.

Bottom line:

You are a racist POS.

actually he's really not. it's funny that people think that way tho. he has a very good point, who cares if you're the first (which he isn't)? just race if you want to race without having to make a statement about the color of your skin. the only person pointing out that you are a black man racing in nascar is you and jesse jackasson. you can't even see what he looks like with the helmets on in the car, so stealth in, win a race, then pull off your helmet and be like "I PWNZED J00 N00BS!"

edit: i don't remember tiger woods ever being like "i'm doing this for my homies!" OTHER people did it, but i don't remember him doing it. he just kicked ass and won a ton of money and a hot swedish wife.

many things are not newsworthy (but make the news) and DON'T get posted on message forums like these. Yet, what happened here...

Really, why does it bother you so much while other things do not ?

Right. He is in racing for Himself and nobody else, and like you say he isn't the first.

Until you are a minority, you'll likely never understand what it's like to live as a minority in a society where white culture is the norm.

I'm glad you reminded us white folks on how much stuff we get. I mean good thing I'm white or else I would have to pay taxes, get a job, pay for a car, pay for food, or even pay for an education. Good thing my butler and maid are there or I would be lost.

I never said that - nice slippery slope into an arguement I never presented. Being white - you are privledged by not ever having to come into consciousness of your race, the fact that you will most likely make more money than someone who is black/hispanic, even if they've worked just as hard as you have, etc.

That is white privledge. I never said you've had an easy life, or had things handed to you. What I am saying is that you will not face the same obstacles as someone of another race will have to, to get themselves into the same position.

Good for him! I like to hear stories of people leaving their mundane lives and pursuing a dream. I wish him the best of luck. I'd rather see him up there on the top step of the podium than any of the other good ole boys you see driving around in circles every week.

Being the first black person in NASCAR will be a step forward in race relations. NASCAR has long been branded as a white southern thing, and it's getting old. Listen to this (NSFW) if you don't believe me. He's not thinking of himself, but of race relations in general. How can you fault someone for wanting to make the world a more understanding place? I applaud him.

He's not the first!!!! Get the hell out of here with that crap. He's not thinking of himself!! Are you kidding? Grow up apologist.
this thread needs a lock.

Get off my case. Seriously, if you don't like the subject matter Take A Hike.

mosh has had an air of superiority and self importance lately. i think we all know what that means.

God I'll say. Maybe she's on the rag.

Well, because I chose to make a point of this article and not others.

Somebody's awfully angry for "not caring."

Good point, I don't care about him or his selfish dreams but the issue I do care about. Boy Bill Lester is the first famous "Black Nascar Driver". Thats what I don't care about.
I may be missing somthing, but "boy?" I hope that was just unintelligible like the rest of your post and not what it sounds like.

If you're going to post about something like this, it's in your best interest to choose your words carefully.

Wow, you're really trying hard to get offended...

Lots to read here I see, good points, bad points too. I'm a minority, and it's true, there are some things maybe people won't understand until they really are a minority. However I make an attempt to nt think about it daily, and go about as if I was just like everyone else. Sometimes you just need to move on and realize you win some, you lose some. It's not always because of race.

However, what I don't like about this guy, or rather this whole thing, is what makes him really all that important? He was already succesful IMHO. Read the first paragraph. Walked away from a 6 figure job. 6 F****** figures. I think, he has already succeeded and is just shooting for some kind of fame really. You have accomplished in life making more than 5 figures as it is(for a minority). Sure, great, he's pursuing his dream. ANyone would like to. Just because he's a minority doesn't make him special. I give thumbs down to this publicity BS.

And another note on a comment made in this thread, Why does it need to be a minority who was already making it big to make any kind of difference. Might as well tell every minority who has some sort of high paying job or high standing or whatever, to do something that will gain public attention in the name of their race.

I read, and as usual I shake my head in disbelief. But if I respond the usual "classy is a racist" emerges. But its pretty sad to read this stuff here constantly.

"he turns and exits quietly"
