The Obama administration today tried to exclude Fox News from the White House press pool. This attempted act contradicted the spirit and letter of the First Amendment, and the press fought back.

Thursday the White House made "pay czar" Kenneth Feinberg available for interviews to every member of the White House pool except Fox News. The pool is the five-network group that shared the costs and duties of daily coverage of the presidency and has done so for decades.

But in a surprising show of decency, the four other members of the pool -- ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN -- told the White House if Fox were barred none of them would participate in the interview session





IF the white house is able to do this it would not be good for the press. NOT just Fox but for all of them. I suspect they all are starting ot wonder "what if" of the future. the Dems are not goign to be in power for ever.

There is no "war". If a public figure criticizes someone, the media says they "attacked" that person. Obama admin point out Fox's political slant, Now, according to them the Obama admin is at "war" with Fox. I know part of it is trying to garner public attention. Saying someone was attacked draws more attention then criticized. You aren't going to have a meaningful dialogue with someone that thinks they are at "war". That they are the victims of an "attack". Then the media gets to do what it loves best, debate some controversy they created themselves. The question then becomes, is it wise for Obama to be at "war" with Fox? There is no war, it's a media creation.

Fox's enrichment via their gullible base is irrelevant. The White House isn't trying to squash free speech. The White House isn't trying to put Fox out of business. The White House isn't trying to reinstate the fairness doctrine. The White House isn't trying to convince Beckians to come within a thousand light years of reality. That will never happen.

The White house called a "spade a spade".

Fox isn't a news organization. Fox is a hodgepodge of pundits, columnists, and really dumb sounding hair heads. So the question is really "Does Fox News have the same access to the White House as other commentary mills?" For example, do the The Nation, New Republic, Creators Syndicate, Mother Jones, etc have better access than Fox? If so, then that is wrong and Fox should receive access similar to that enjoyed by those organizations. If not, then Fox is just whining.

not to mention they all got to be thinking ok what if they don't agree with Obama. is the white house going to go after them? what if obama loses and the dems are not in office then is whatever Republican in office going to do the same?
