I'm an Independent. I actually voted for Hillary in 2016, I can't stand Trump, but he is not the worst in the world. I don't think he should be reelected in 2020 but I don't see any Democrats that can beat him right now other than Tulsi Gabbard or Sherrod Brown. I may even write in Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan or Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker.

So am I but for the time being the Democrats are the superior choice. No one supports the people of the military. They are a political football to kick about. It's grand to serve the nation but no so nice to find out you were being used and then pretty much discarded for your efforts.

Both parties support the troops when it is politically opportunistic to do so. Trump’s behavior is the first I would classify as shameful.

You cannot disparage people you disagree with as Putin lovers. You got to stop that. I am an Independent, I voted for Clinton, I do not like the far left drift the Democrats are taking. I am a centrist. I liked some of the Clintons policies and some of the policies I did not like. Period. Period.

Polls have been taken of the Democratic base and they indicate they was a centrist party. People like AOC get airplay because the media wants ratings and they get it for different reasons.

At the same time you claim to be a centrist but ignore the REAL lurch by Republicans to the right. As a new account I smell an agenda of a plant.

Everyone knows the Republicans have trended to the right, but it is not at a rapid rate the Democrats are to the left. I am looking for a balance here.

The truth is actually the opposite, Democrats have become somewhat more left but Republicans have radicalized to the right to an extent never seen.

As per this empirical measure of ideology over time the Democrats are about as far to the left today as the Republicans were to the right in 1991. The Republicans have gone to the right beyond anything we have ever seen in US history.

With this evidence in mind, would you change your opinion?

The funny thing is that the Democrats aren't really lurching to the "far left" like you claimed. Higher taxes for the rich were fine by Republicans decades ago. Better environmental policies? That's not a far left ideology, that's absolutely necessary. And outside of the US, single-payer health care and subsidized education aren't "far left," they're frequently par for the course. There are conservatives in numerous countries who'd be baffled that the US makes some people go bankrupt to avoid dying.
