As another sign of disrespect the Republican Vice President traveled halfway across the world just to lie to soldiers faces about the cause of the shutdown just a few weeks ago. How can you stand in front of them and say that Trump was fighting hard to avoid a shutdown when he openly stated that he wanted it and he effectively vetoed a bi-partisan agreement to do it?

Gettyroad must be appalled at the disrespect shown. Right?

I did not know about that; it was not on the news. Thank you for letting me know that.

the guy is a russian. I bet this thread is added to 1000 more on other forums on the issue.

This is the type of mindset modern liberals have these days. You are as worse as the conservatives who believe in PizzaGate.

Anyone who has a different belief system or point of view from you is not a Russian. Stop that shit. I'm an Independent, and I call out the parties. The Clintons and the Democrats shouldn't get a pass here on everything. Get out of the echo chamber.

That behavior isn't any different from a hundred other times the Republican administration (not just Trump, although he's a major culprit) has openly disrespected the military/intelligence services though. So while I believe you when you say you hadn't heard about that, you must have come across enough similar examples recently (I mean it's pretty much every week it seems) to have a mountain of solid evidence that goes against your theory that they respect the military?

Any party composed of rich elitists who never have to send their own sons and daughters to war is going to require significant skepticism.

That said, I believe a significant fraction of our senators and congresspeople are veterans.

Google search results on reuters shows about 2X as many Veteran Repubs vs Democrats in Senate/Congress.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...ost-veterans-in-nearly-a-decade-idUSKCN1NC2LW

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/...eterans-in-the-116th-congress-by-the-numbers/

I think the president has done bad things for the troops, but, overall, republicans have a good track record of ensuring troops are well fed and have decent equipment. It would be dishonest to say otherwise.

The Republicans also have an excellent track record of keeping the VA well stocked with patients.

This is true.

Almost ALL of the republicans voted to willfully send American troops to their deaths in an illegal war.
Only around half of the Democrats were shitty enough to vote for that illegal war.

In almost every metric for measuring a party, the republicans are "the worst", but, I think when it comes to treatment of the military, it's more complicated.

I don't think the 66 republican military veterans in congress did their service for lip service. I don't think the 30 democratic military veterans in congress did it for lip service either. I think that there are veterans in congress who are pro military.

you can be pro military and anti-war, but it seems the repubs are more pro-war than the demos are.

I disagree. I'm sure that's not wholly the case, but I sure as fuck know McCain was only doing lip service. Guy supposedly regularly visited the VA hospital down here (you know, the one that was so damn bad that it set off the firestorm about the VA being a fucking mess), and seemingly was completely oblivious of any issues. How the fuck that happens, well the most logical explanation is that his visits were lip service.

I didn’t say the service of vets is lip service. Saying “are troops...” is lip service. It’s just another issue that sucks in a certain voter.

I'm curious how you've been to every meeting the Democratic presidents have had on defense to know that they are not an hour long, and don't "respect" the generals (WTF does that mean?)?

I mean Obama blew the legs of more little brown children with drones than Bush could ever dream of, I would think that would give every Republican a solid war-boner? That'll make america strong right?

Um, what? Just...wow. Just when I think you wouldn't possibly try outdumb yourself, you post something like this and totally redeem yourself.

You do realize that there were far more deaths of "little brown children" when Bush was President right? I mean, obviously you literally never know what you're talking about, but this is a pretty quick and easily checkable. You're clearly going to try and focus on drone strikes which is just fucking stupid, since that accounted for maybe 1000 civilian deaths under Obama. Meanwhile, compared to the literally 100,000+ that happened under Bush during the Iraq invasion and occupation, gee which do you think is worse?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War#Iraqi_civilian_casualties

Plus, Obama was doing drone and air strikes to try and keep American personnel out of the line of fire. Would you have preferred them to be sending troops in instead? Its not like our troops have shown they're better about cutting down civilian casualties anyway, so might as well try and keep them from possibly getting killed themselves.

I said drone strikes, as one something "militarily" that Obama did a lot of, and something hawks should love. He wasn't "weak". Bush was terrible, but Obama did his part in the imperialist war as well

But you're clearly an aggressive aholes troll so I won't engage with more of your nonsense.

The last sentence is bullshit, look no further than the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Republicans were so cheap that they wouldn't provide the troops with adequate armor for themselves and their equipment.

That's some strange phrasing you've got there, Comrade.

Russians stick out like sore thumbs. No matter how many years they have been learning the language they give themselves away in nearly every post that is longer than the old Twitter standard. Make them have to use "a" too often. Repeat their posts in your mind being said with a Russian accent and it becomes a fun game...

This schtick plays MUCH better over at the Fox News comments section or over at LiveLeak. The only thing they will get here will be Americans pointing and laughing at the pathetic 3rd world Russians that WISH they were American. They need and crave high fives from stupid TrumpTards and they simply aren't going to get that here... Move along Comrade...

The modern left holds that today's America is irredeemably racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and exploitative of the proletariat. You should be welcoming the Russian takeover of the partriachal plutocracy and the coming golden age of socialistic brotherhood of each according their ability/need.

irredeemably is your belief, the left believes in fixing these problems and working towards a better and more equal future. all anyone has to do is take a look at the House of Representatives diversity on the left and lack of it on the right to see who are the racist, sexist bigots.

I read this thread and wonder how perception and knowledge regarding the military and the politicians in charge of them can swing so widely. No wonder this country is so divided.

I think that
1) it's hard to learn about all the issues a place has from just one visit (a typical hospital can have 20-30 departments alone each with its own hierarchy, staff, strengths and weaknesses)
2) the Phoenix situation with the colonoscopy delays is really way oversimplified and a lot of factors were at play
