Why do idiots always conflate libertarianism to anarchy?
Libertarians recognize government is a necessary evil. It's necessary, but it's also evil, so try to minimize it. Morons like you seem to think that the goal is zero government.
Go back to wherever you came from, P&N has enough idiots without new ones coming around.
Congratulations, only the true fool and simpleton escalates to insults in a civil conversation. The point I was trying to make was the times we live in are not simple. Libertarians are quick to say abolish the FDA, abolish the Department of Education, remove all oversight of business and allow them to police themselves because the true capitalism in the only solution.
We can see what was wrought by these libertarian ideals. Deregulation much like Reagen's deregulation created a vacuum of responsibility, While no single person is responsible for all of the ills of the last few years removing the safeguards that kept investment banks and commercial and retail banks separate created the backdrop of the current financial crisis. If past is prologue we should have known better after the savings and loan crisis. Too bad we didnt.....
Politics has become too polarizing with people such as yourself incapable of having civil discourse in a public forum without resulting in brick-bats... Rigid absolutism is the byproduct of a generation of fear mongering and name calling. If someone disagrees with you they must be an idiot and must be forced to see your world view. I truly feel sorry for your ilk because you will truly never be happy unless the world conforms to your myopic and sad vision of reality.
Sadly you are not alone, when people only get their news and information from one source they are doomed to repeat what they hear. If only people took the time to challenge their own ideas not surround themselves with things that support their ignorance.
I used to be a republican and worked and fund raised for several republicans over the last 30 years. Sadly I have seen the republican party co-opted by zealots and ideologues with no practical knowledge of what it takes to compromise. If you look at the retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens he by most of his peers at the zenith of his career was considered a Liberal. The truth of the matter is he was appointed by a Republican and was considered at the time of his posting to be very conservative. The crux of my point is the US has taken many steps to the right over the last 40 years. So many infact that people who used to be clearly conservative now appear to be pinko liberals.
The funniest part of this whole thread was that it was clearly a troll thread trying to incite the weak into flames. It appears it succeeded.
Lastly I would like to point out your comment about me leaving or more accurately going back to wherever I came from, well I choose to be where I am, that is the beauty of a democracy. If you truly are a libertarian than how does telling someone they do not belong somewhere jive in your little sad play of a life?
In regards to to your only coherent point "The necessary Evils" of government I will posit this: If what you say is true then would the work of the last two years to prevent a Long and protracted Great Depression be allowed the same rationale? Can we stop the constant socialism name calling because thats exactly the same overly simplistic Devil's advocate position I took in this obvious troll thread. If you want to debate Keynesian economics I would relish the opportunity to learn something from someone point of view. What I wont do is listen to more name calling and vilification by a deluded minority who thinks its in the majority.
Peace!
Edit: I just realized your tag says your from Minneapolis, Are you Barbara Bachman in a mandelorian suit?
