They just posted a review of a product that has a very low volume(compared to DC) and a ton of competition. Such a product might interest maybe 0.5% of the site's audience yet they didn't review the most major CPU launch of the year, that sounds like a failure to me.

The review would basically be "it's still Haswell, and it doesn't really overclock much better". YAWN.

This community predicted that trend year(s) ago, that once the gadget market was saturated, larger formfactors would pick up pace again. But it sort of makes Intel late to the party as well doesnt it, when they finally have a competetive product the segment is saturated and on an innovative decline. On the other hand it is not a segment that is going away so there is longterm.

Maybe he tried to remove the IHS and killed the cpu. And has to wait for another replacement...

Good news. Always hated those touchscreen things. I realized early on in 2007-2008 from trying to adjust these tiny circular knobs on my Korg M3 that touchscreen was a trend that needed to die fast!

That doesn't sound convincing. I think he would try to remove the IHS only after he did all the other regular tests in that case he could still post the review.

Why are you waiting for a high end CPU review? Anandtech is a mobile site.

This.

We got a 'shootout' of the new Samsung LTE vs. Wifi tablet instead.... *Yawn* What a bore. :(

I do like the NAS reviews, but that's pretty much it. I also like the fact that AT only uses a small set of phones for all their comparisons. Feels a bit like a shill review to me every time they review another phone.

I know desktop computing isn't as 'exciting' as it once was, but the Devil's Canyon was a pretty cool release, as it was done EXCLUSIVELY for enthusiasts. It deserved a good review, but was sadly ignored. I am sorry, but there is no defending a supposed 'enthusiast' site for ignoring it.

This is from a HUGE AT supporter for over 10 years. It is disappointing...

I'm with you on this, been a member here since 1998 and it has become quite boring of late. The volume of members here are what made AnandTech the success that it became and most of the original members were/are PC enthusiasts. Give a little attention to what made you famous guys

Anand can only make it interesting if the OEMs give him something to work with. Desktop CPUs have been a total snoozefest since Sandy Bridge.

You can pretty much say the same about smartphones and tablets.

Yuuuuup. Besides which, anand still apparently employs writers who are specifically dedicated to mobile/desktop CPUs and GPUs respectively. It isn't a lack of resources or manpower. So what's the real reason that AT decided to NOT publish a review? It isn't because of a change of focus. They have the guys that do nothing but CPU reviews who AREN'T focused on phones. Come on. That is not the reason.

I don't know, I don't care, as everyone knows what the deal with DC is at this point more or less. But i'm just saying. The statement that this has anything to do with mobile or smartphones is just wrong. AT has the review guys who are dedicated to enthusiast grade hardware. They just decided to NOT do it. And it isn't like AT's front page is teeming with information - you don't have to focus on one or the other, especially when you employ writers who are specifically dedicated to doing both enthusiast desktop hardware and mobile / smartphone hardware with no overlap. Unless they canned a few writers, that can't be the reason.

EDIT: Besides, Hexus.net has a similar AMD Center collecting AMD stories, and they published their 4790k review over a month ago.

I just want to point out the HILARITY of the review at Hexus

1) No overclocking results
2) Benchmark suite included PCMark which shows a dual core 7850k tied with a 4790K in overall system performance (LOL, LOL, LOL, cannot do enough LOLs)
3) Benchmark suite included iGPU results (who the hell cares??)

Maybe Hexus could have saved their dignity by not publishing a review. Maybe AT made the right choice.

A 7850k is a quad core, not a dual core. ;) I think PCMark includes OpenCL benchmarks now, which is why it makes the APUs look especially good.

Anyway, yeah, not testing overclocking on Devil's Canyon is pretty dumb. Useless review is useless.

4790K might be addressed at overclockers but it's not an improvement over a lapped 4770k so due to its high stock clock-speed it actually makes a lot of sense for someone who doesn't OC. Unless you need something that 4790K doesn't have (TXT) I think it makes no sense to get the non-k version even for someone who doesn't OC, the clock-speed bump is significant in this case unlike 4770K and its non K counterpart.

I know it isn't a HUGE deal, but just looking at the 4690k reviews, the CPU is much more likely to hit 4.5-4.7ghz with acceptable volt/temps over the 4670k. For a lot of people who got 4670k's that really only do 4-4.2 with acceptable stability, that's a good 10% more performance. As we seem to be 'stuck' at ~4.4-4.8ghz for a few years now and small IPC gains, that's a pretty decent performance improvement. Even if it should have been there in the first place. :p

Gee, I don't know why some are saying that AnandTech is ignoring PC tech reviews?

I guess they dont have to justify what and when they decide to review, but considering the obvious disappointment from multiple forum posters about the lack of reviews of DC in particular, and PC products in general, some sort of communication as to the reason for no review would be nice.

Does Anand even check these forums?
Sometimes. I sent Ian another email, but he hasn't responded this time.

Well, I emailed Ian a few weeks back and he had explained that they received their samples a lot later than everyone, and that he had actually finished gathering the data for the review, and just needed to do the writeup. He was planning on posting it later that week. I don't know what happened, as it's been two or three weeks now, but I'm not even concerned about it. I only emailed him again so the rest of you might have an idea, but I just don't care about their review of DC -- I know pretty much everything I need to know about it. I'll happily read it if it ever comes out, but I'm not going to bother concerning myself about it in the meantime.

I don't know why all of you haven't asked Ian yourself... it takes two minutes. His email is ian@anandtech.com

Now wouldn't we all feel bad if there was sickness or death in family that caused delay?
