It's the perils of a free-as-in-beer internet, where everything is funded by unknowable advertising deals. *shrug* But an AMD Center which simply collates all existing AMD articles, some of which paint AMD in a fairly unfavourable light? I don't see that being any worse than what we have ever seen.
 
I'm waiting for the reviews, and the Anniversary Pentium also. I started reading this site and Toms and others back when I felt special o/c the celeron 300. I was in with the cache-less version first and then on to the 300A. This is in no way going to be as popular as that, but it's what interests me.
I get my Pentium today.

off-topic, If anyone has answers.
I got extended family members that can't use their win8 computers. From laziness etc. Do people put Chromebook images on Win laptops , fairly trouble-free ? I'd like to be directed to a article on that.

dGPU and desktop CPUs only matter to the sorts of folks who post here or work in the industry.

This site is just doing what's smart and going towards what is the dominant popular technology today. Honestly so many other review sites post endless worthless reviews on junk like USB hubs or keyboards, that or they are blatant shill sites for one vendor or another.

The internet is almost wholly monetized around advertisements or porn. Would you rather they put up porn clips instead of taking money from tech sites ? My avatar is appropriate for some of the paranoia in this thread. I see AMD center at the of the site and then to either side huge adverts for nvidia's Titan(ic)Z.

Hmmm...? Porn clips vs in-wall wifi, google glass, ARM RunTime (whatever that is), ARM Mali guard, google hangout coverage, etc. etc. I am leaning toward the former.

I am looking forward to that review (Pentium Anniversary Edition) also.

Hopefully they have time (eventually) to investigate that chip on some cheaper boards as well (eg, ASUS H series that will supposedly support unlocked multiplier overclocking).

Have you tried Puppy Linux? It has the essentials and pretty easy to set up.

I've used that exact one, but It was difficult to get my Realtek NIC to work with that distro. ( I had to install my Intel dual NIC card to get it working)

Now Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon is another story (everything works out of the box and the codecs are already installed). I run this one from a usb stick (just like I do with Slackware Puppy Linux) from time to time using the Universal USB installer:

(For users who have never run Linux from usb: Make sure you check off step 4):

(If your usb stick is large enough set persistent file size for storing changes to 4GB so the system can be re-booted without losing browser Bookmarks, desktop shortcuts and other system changes. If you stick is smaller you can also set the persistent file size for something smaller than 4GB as well)
 
TR is the last real site with proper content coverage but they're struggling because of it. I don't blame Anand in moving towards the Engadget type crowd but the forums feel like they should belong to some other parents.

I have to blame some of this on both Intel and AMD.

I'm sorry but $200+ unlocked chips in this day and age is not exactly appealing to a wide audience. (Maybe back in 1990s top end chips costing $200 would have been big news though)

Now, If Intel gave us a $40 unlocked Celeron (or better yet unlocked BGA Celerons/mobos for even lower cost and to remove the TIM material and thickness variables) we would probably see a wider audience interested in making a desktop PC.

With that mentioned, I can only dream of the day when I can build a powerful dual core desktop (mobo/cpu/ram,SSD,case and psu) for $150 without OS. (Running Linux Mint is fine with me for such a budget machine because it is such a fine OS for low cost hardware)

It's kinda weird because these forums don't match the website. The website these days is a lot about gadgets and ARM and yet the forums is dominated by desktop x86 and desktop GPU enthusiasts 😛

Come on dude. People actually have to put food into their families mouths. How do you expect companies to manufacture all that and still make a profit?
 
Someone mentioned this, but it's worth mentioning again. Face it, the vast majority of "enthusiasts" are really just gamers, and an overclocked 2500K is more than acceptable today and for the foreseeable future in the latest titles. There's no reason to upgrade the CPU. GPU yes.

There has to be a lot more interest in hearing about the latest in smartphones and tablets, and when (if?) new GPUs come out, I'm sure they will review that.

As the process tech improves the parts become more integrated and cheaper the manufacture over time.

I don't know why people are upset over pricing. CPU prices have not inflated an awful lot over the years, truth be told. I paid around 200 bucks for a 300a unlocked celeron WAY back in the day. Now I can get an unlocked i5 for around the same price. What's the big deal? If inflation had taken full effect, an i5 caliber unlocked CPU would cost near 500$ in current days. Obviously that is not the case. It should be noted that intel had way more meaningful competition back then as well since both AMD and Cyrix copy cloned intel CPUs up to the 486 and then they branched off with the K5 and 6x86 respectively to compete with the original Pentium P54C. Speaking of which, the original pentiums for the most part cost A LOT MORE than 200 bucks.

The pentium 150 was nearly 600$ at launch by the way. Prices HAVE NOT inflated much. In fact, i'd say we have it way better now than we did back then. Overclocking is more straightforward and people expect it, whereas it was more of a slight bonus back then and not a given.

I also remember the 3dfx Voodoo 2 was around 300 bucks IIRC and only did 3d.

Pricing isn't outrageous, IMO, you get what you pay for now just like you did 10-15 years ago. Intel had the overpriced 1000$ chips back then just like they do now.

I agree. Not phazed by pricing. Compared to food/gasoline, utilities (basically cost of living) PC parts are cheap. Comparing back to '98.

Runs hot like 1st Haswell.Delidding for air/water operation may be a good idea.
but..clocks higher on air/water..maybe up to 5-5.1 Ghz
Good chips are few and far between.

I can imagine delidding and TIM testing could take awhile. Particularly if they try to do a lot of TIM tests with the stuff that comes under the 4790k's IHS.
