Were those gaming or non-gaming benchmarks? And was the 1200 overclocked to 3.80Ghz? I'll admit that the 8100 might be faster for gaming, if you'll admit that the 1200's higher clock speed (3.80Ghz versus the 3.60Ghz max clock of the 8100) would allow the 1200 to edge it out in productivity.

A mix. If I was a budget that restrictive I wouldn't be buying a new PC but, if I was forced to buy yes the 1200/1300 would be better with OC. If AMD follows through on R2 I can see a landscape where HT is offered on all I series chips and overclockng isn't restricted to K chips.

Agreed on the gaming performance, the 8700k is king without a doubt.

On the topic of availability, I've noticed that MicroCenter pulled the product from their searches, and accessing the product page directly shows no pricing info whatsoever. Makes me wonder if they aren't going to get stock for a while. I also didn't see any NewEgg alerts come in today. Purely subjective speculation, but this isn't promising.

8700k is a better processor than the 7820x. It really makes no sense why anything below the 7820x exists.

I was going to make a comment about hyperbolic defenses of ST performance and thread derailment, but then I realized the whole reason why people are discussing this in an availability/where to buy thread is because it's still quite difficult to obtain Coffee Lake (esp. 8700K), and because of this it increasingly demands a hefty premium when it IS in stock.

The only processor harder to obtain at the moment is the i9-7980XE.
The days of hard launches with good stock seem to be over.

I've been trying to post availability for the 8700K when I see it. Came in stock at Newegg around 11AM PST today, briefly, and a few times after that. Usually sells out within minutes, though.

I must have not received that notification, good to hear they continue to trickle in at NewEgg. Thanks for continuing to post when you see them!

There is 1 in stock at my local Micro Center for the low price of $2400.

It's been said Intel shipped 50k CPUs in their first run. Makes me wonder if distributors didn't bleed those out over time. If that lot is gone then we'll probably have to wait until Intel does a higher-volume shipment later. Whenever that will be.

It's got your name on it... :p
The 7840x seems to be the sweet spot. I have been waiting for one close to MSRP for my PC at work to replace my old dell t710 dual hex Xeon workstation. I figure it's a lock for a 4.2ghz all core OC on air with stock voltage.

If your quick M4L shows the 8700k in stock as of writing this and are offering a whopping 30% discount.

i7-8700K in stock at Newegg. Still $419.99.

NowInStock hasn't picked up on it yet, so beat the rush.

Yep, just snagged one as a will call from the Indy warehouse. Let’s see if I actually get it. :) I actually got the “in stock” email from Newegg and did the “Add to Cart” from that email. My mobile app still showed OOS.

Debating whether I should keep my B&H order and then resell to an AT member or on eBay.

Got my first Newegg auto-notify email since 10/5 about the i7-8700K coming in stock.

Of course, by the time the email arrived it had been OOS for 10 minutes. Lol.

Except I am not paying more than $380(MSRP), so I guess I wait more. Could be a LOOOOOOOONG wait

I think MSRP is actually $360.

I was thinking more and I think I may go ahead and keep my B&H preorder and flip the one I just bought off of Newegg. I’m really in no hurry and B&H is much cheaper. Plus I may make a little extra money to put towards my build.

My guess is Newegg got a large-ish shipment, as this is the first time since launch I got an email about it being in stock from them.

So assuming it doesn't sell out at the current price, it should slowly drift back towards MSRP ($360).

Or it may not until after Christmas. We'll see.

Edit: OOS again. Guess it was just coincidence.
