When did the uber-tactical EDC patriot thing start?

What initially started this? Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:

Wondering what the primary cause was... is it Obama, the great recession, democratic takeover on capital hill, guys like NutnFancy and Hikock45, NRA, Zombie popularity, etc. etc.

I believe americans have ALWAYS been fond of survivalist personalities. We like the idea that we can make it out on our own in the wild.

CCW laws have also done well under Obama and there seem to be more federal cases giving civilians some more fine legal lines on what is OK and what is not OK to do.

--------------
It seems like many are prepared for anything....except there isn't really anything to be prepared for.

Zombies aren't real...so if you do the zombie thing it's either in jest or it's a mental illness problem. The Big Government coming to get you hasn't really panned out too well so far, all the talks of the military practicing takeovers of big cities has been ludicrous. We are also in no fear of a Red Dawn type of a scenario, which would be the real prepper/survivalist wet dream.

So are we going to get bored with this at some point and look back..saying,"Damn, I spent too much money on that flashlight. Also, I am not sure if I really needed the 50,000 rounds of ammo."

I believe, for the most part, Americans don't care about anything unless they are told something will be taken away from them. Just the thought of not being able to buy AR-15's under Obama, was enough to put the market into an extreme frenzy. None of it ever happened. Period.

Obama even said, "I'm not going to take your guns" But nobody trusted him. Here he is, on his way out...nobody took our guns ;)

Should we feel silly for worrying...or was it a wise choice at the time and still wise? Either way, who cares. But it is curious to me.

How in the world is open carrying, which is legal in most states and is nothing new, the same as your first picture?

Between the rampant racism and homophobia, the misleading thread titles, and the false-premise threads like this one..........I guess I only have myself to blame for clicking this sub-forum anymore.

I dont believe in open carry. It makes you a target.

And I dislike most tacti-cool knives. They get garbage in all the little nooks and cranny's.

I blame testoserone supplements causing shrinkage of the testes for these fads.

Whats the point of this? Show folks how much of a man they are?

Many say "rights not exercised are lost". Some are just fond of weapons. Some feel like it's their patriotic duty to be prepared. Some just want attention :sneaky:

But yeah, manliness has always been present when it comes to men arming themselves with weapons in public.

Just a pic to illustrate the wide distribution and sales of ar-15's as their use as a tactical/defensive tool or even as a symbol of "freedom".

I think the picture illustrates that quite well... Here you have two people who are clearly not going hunting or sport shooting. Also, you have a more urban environment, where it is not typical to see people openly carrying long weapons.

I believe it fits the "uber-tactical EDC Patriot" title quite well actually. They are either patriots, or EDC prepper types. or whatever.

Labeling people is easy and fun because it puts them in a nice little box and marginalizes them.

Yay

Fixed.

Here's the open carry experience of a more regular (read: rational) gun owner:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PMmd2Jr9SY&list=UUgD93xd1KaokQWJ96woH-AA

Long story short, the only reactions he got walking around doing perfectly normal things with a revolver on his hip were from a couple of pro-gun lesbians.

Carrying a pistol, even openly, is typically inconspicuous if you otherwise look/act normal and it's legal in your area. Many will assume that you're a cop or security guard. Carrying a rifle around, outside of an active riot/looting/natural disaster situation, is just attention whoring plain and simple.

Most cops I know prefer open carry.

Makes the people they need to watch obvious.

Honestly that first pic is more absurd than the second. Just wtf?

I don't mind the first aside from the two bloated knives on the right. They both look stupidly thick and heavy as lead. Even assuming one of them is defensive (which is incredibly stupid unless you hardcore practice knife fighting), the other is completely superfluous. I can just picture that person trying to bust out some bullshit dual-wielding knife-fighting move he saw on youtube and stabbing himself in the leg.

Gotta love your propaganda. They aren't assault rifles and your idiotic source numerous times calls them assault rifles to scare the usual suspects. What is wrong with some people? Why are they scared when they see people exercising their rights?

That's the articles that the image came from
I don't own Huffington post, nor do I write news articles
The day you could teach me something about guns will never come

You and those morons called them assault rifles when they're not to scare people. You guys are using this tactic to make them sound more dangerous. These guys are just exercising their rights, no need to be scared of them.

So to answer the opps question, why not carry whatever you feel like? Some people are into computers, for others it's toy trains or stamps. I know people who collect dolls and pokemon cards, why not guns? It's legal, it doesn't cause eye strain or cancer, and a fun hobby.
