Hi folks.

Recently, I started playing Crysis (2007) again.

And wow.. I'm surprised (again) with the level of visuals this game from 2007 provides.

Without any mods, at 2560x1600 resolution with everything at very high (good'ol DX10) and 4xMSAA + 4xTrSSAA, this game STILL looks like a visual masterpiece.

Only other game I can think of that may be in the same league in term of visual quality is Metro 2033.

I know there are other games which provides amazing visuals... like Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, Max Payne 3 (really well done tessellation). But in my humble opinion, I think Crysis is still better looking game overall.

I also liked RAGE in terms of visuals. I know many people complain about low resolution textures in this game. But I think the art direction is superb. The game sometimes looks like a living, moving painting. Its absolutely gorgeous. (Don’t nitpick individual textures, but absorb the scene as a whole and its breath-taking. The screenshots don’t do it justice, the animation and level geometry are excellent.)

Have I missed anything ? Are there any other games I should check out ?
Sometimes, I can't believe I'm still talking & praising about the game from 2007 in terms of visuals. :(

When people stop whining over sandbox games with high I.Q. because they make their PC look less than super and then they go and post FUD about "unoptimized" because their e-peen got a bashing.

As in not right now...sadly.

At that setting the game will be a slideshow unless you're running a trio of 7970s/680s or something.

PowerK has a GTX 690 SLi platform.

Edit: I did see Power K answered later on the thread, sorry!

Dang, Skyrim actually look good !
With it being priced at 35$ ub bestbuy I am thinking of finally buying one.
Would a 6870 be enough to play this gorgeous modded Skyrim at 1080p ?

1GB of vram probably won't be enough for a lot of the HD texture mods and 4xAA or above.

I had a ton of mods/textures packs ect when I was running my old GTX 275 in Skyrim and it only had 896mb Vram and it played it really well considering at the time the drivers and patches were not nearly as goo as they are right now. That being said I was running it on a 1680x1050 rez monitor.

Welcome to the console era... PC games will hardly evolve while the consoles limit the capabilities of the game designers.

The consoles don't limit anyone. Its the developers who simply got lazy and don't put any effort into the PC version of most games.

That's not entirely an accurate statement for the big game Developers are corporate entities with share holders to keep happy ect naturally the market dictates where these game developers will go and the market dictates that consoles are were all the money is at. In short it is the "market" that is limiting the moving forward of the PC gaming industry and nothing else.

It's well known that PC gaming grew last year about 16% and was profitable (talking 1billion+). One quarter EA took in more money from PC game sales than they did from Xbox 360 and PS3. SO the money is there provided the game is quality.

I Look at Valve, they can't count to 3. Look at companies just putting out a port with zero graphics options. I'm not buying the "consoles limit us" because there have always been consoles. Consoles have always been inferior. Today is no different. Now we are getting more games on the PC, but they are not built how we expect a PC game to be. It can be fixed with work, but devs don't want to work sometimes it seems. They want to pump out DLC every 3 months and a $60 expansion pack every year lol.

I do understand your point and I know how corporate crap goes. I refused to buy Diablo 3 because of Activision and Blizzard's greed(dunno who to really blame). CoD pushed out year after year with no real changes to the engine. It's not all the fault of the devs like Bungie who are now part of the Activision group and have ridiculous contract obligations. A game with multiple sequels and multiple DLC packs released every year and the game hasn't even entered the beta phase. I'm sure the CoD devs have something similar. If anything I think Bungie's contract obligations will make their game quality go way down. They're expected to release sequels year after year just like CoD (if the leak was accurate). That doesn't leave a lot of time to stretch their imaginations and create something great. It might force them to limit how far they push certain aspects of their product.

does Crysis 2 have better graphics than Crysis 1?

I think so yes but the environment is totally different. Structures look better in Crysis 2 but it's based in a city so that's expected.

Imagine how much PC gaming would have grown on top of what it already did last quarter or year. I think we can thank Valve/Steam alone for moving PC gaming in the right direction no matter what people think of Gabe Newell he treats PC gamers right. I am being patient for the release of Ep3 because there are a heck of allot of other Excellent games I have yet to finish or even start to play such as Portal 2 and I rather Valve do Ep3 justice and build it on there new engine or rather build a whole new engine around it from the ground up and do it all right. I know many game developers creativity and love for gaming is being suppressed by there employers/Corporations which is a real dam shame but at least we still have Valve. Halo 3 I heard is coming to PC soon and they are working on doing it right and taking advantage of today's beastly rendering performance that only the PC can offer Halo belonged on the PC from the get go as far as I am concerned and i am looking forward to playing through all the Halo games on PC the way it's meant to be played.

I hate when people bring up portal as if it's some type of gold standard. it was boring and I wish I could get a refund.

As for Halo on PC...yeah it should have always been a PC title but I've played Halo 3...like 4 years ago. It's old news these days. Valve doesn't impress me. Steam is a good idea but someone else would have eventually done it if they didn't. I want to see Half-Life 2's story finally come to a conclusion. It's been almost 5 years since Episode 2 and IMO that's way too long. I really believe they gave up on it.

Taking the game as a whole, no, not at all. C1/Warhead look better.

Crysis 1 has zero tessellation and other effects so I don't understand how you can say that with a straight face. There are so many more impressive effects in Crysis 2 than the first game. The lighting and atmospheric effects are also tons better in the new engine. I'm much more impressed with Crysis 2 when placing them side by side.

Honestly though I wish more games did bullet damage like Max Payne 3. There's just something about seeing what your handy work does to a guy's face...it's really what's missing from all these shooters.

Portal was a great breath of fresh air from the same old Military shooter clone after Clone and Portal 2 is even better. Valve is great and so is Steam and ya someting else did come along it's called Origins and it's BOLLOCKS. Crysis 2 is over hyped and over used Tessellation and to many LOW rez poorly done texture work even in DX 11 "high" rez mode. Everyone knows and Cevit Yearly told us that Cryengine 3 is inferior to Cryengine 2.

If origin came before steam you wouldn't even use steam. That's pure fact. It's just that people are locked into steam after all these years of games being loaded onto it and locked to their account. You can't give it up or you lose 6 years or more worth of game purchases.

I see nothing wrong with the textures in Crysis 2. You wanna see low resolution? Go play Rage.

I'm sick of living in the past talking about games from 5 years ago. Time to move on.

cmdrdredd, you really need your eyes checked because there were some horrible textures in Crysis 2 even with hi res texture pack and DX11. there were times I just stopped and said wtf is that. if you actually get close to anything then you will see that the game looks no better than the majority of other newer games out there.

I have no issues with origin. I don't see the problem. I load it up, click my game, my game starts. OMG...the horror.

Don't believe everything you read on the forums littered with people who haven't defragged their HDD in 3 years and have 1GB of memory with 10 programs open and origin crashes.

It's almost like people just hate origin because EA made it. Like it or not every game published by EA will use it. It works and that's all I care about. Steam is more established though so there's a lot more content there.

You're telling me Crysis 1 didn't have this? Common...if you walk up and stare at a wall every game looks bad.

of course Crysis 1 had that too but its a much older game. I was just saying that Crysis 2 even in DX11 and with "hi res texture pack" has some ass ugly textures. overall the game looks mediocre coming from a company that used to push the visuals. there were very few spots that I ever found myself impressed with the graphics.

Well, I will say this. When Crysis first came out it was a big leap over most everything else at the time. Crysis 2? Not so much...some games did certain things better even before it released. It didn't help that the actual game was linear and pretty weak.

That said I still think it's more impressive than the first Crysis, but I think BF3 is better than both anyway.
