I can get the accord v6 LX at invoice around $21500ish, but they are lowballing us for the trade-in, just waiting for them to call us back. ;) I really liked the solara's foglights, which accord doesn't have. I can get a samiliarly equiped v6 camry SE with foglights for around the same price as the accord, and my 29yr old wife likes the camry interior better, but she just can't get over the idea that only old folks drive the camry. hahah decision, decision...

What else is a good choice in the $20-25k range other than Accord and Camry that I might overlook?

Nothing wrong with the V6, it's a very nice engine. Most people get the I4 Accord or Camry as their daily transportation and don't need the extra HP. The I4 has sufficient get up and go for normal driving, plus it gets great mileage.

torquey? Have you driven the new accords? They have NO low end torgue it's all in the upper rpm's where it gets its power.

Wow! really? I guess after enough time they did get it up to 2 ft lbs, and to think I lost hope.

Its only 2ft lbs after 6200rpm though. At least it gets 30mpg at 6000rpm :p

Have a 99 Accord V6 and love it. Smooth, powerful (good low end torque) and good gas mileage to boot... Too many good things about it. I was very impressed after coming from a Chevy V6...

Fuel Economy City..............V6:21.0 mpg.........i4:26.0 mpg

Fuel Economy Highway........V6:30.0 mpg..........i4:34.0 mpg

The hit in fuel economy isn't that much for me. A 6er makes it much more easy to merge onto freeways around here, and when I carry a full load (4 people total, 1 driver 3 pass, plus cargo), a 6 makes it much better power wise to drive on the highway when going through hills. Dad has a 1998.5 2.8 V6 30v Audi A6, mom has a 97 accord i4, and the Audi is much more satisfying to drive power wise; the 6 feels smoother in delivering power than the 4.

That's why we bought an I4 for 3 reasons:

1) It's cheaper than a V6.
2) Uses regular gas, no requirement for premium fuel.
3) Better fuel economy means filling up less.

Otherwise hell yeah I'd get the V6 but it's all about $$$$

Both my dad's 04 and my 04 (both I4) average about 28 in the city. I've only gotten 26 when I've floored it the entire time between fillups. Although on V6p.net, most of the 6 banger guys report getting 2mpg over that 21 in real life driving, so I guess it evens out :)

Over the long run, I4's are typically lower in maintanence costs too.

Easier to work on and require less fluids and parts.

wooot another v6p'er :D

i have a accord 01 v6 too and i love it over my mom's accord 00 i4... i get shit-ty mileage though.. tank refill after every 300mi's (in city w/ neddle hanging on the below line)... = 17-19mpg.. :(

but i drive wierd and i do floor it sometimes..

the new accords i4 engine is the same series from acura rsx's and such. those engies are very good and very good aftermarket support. its dohc now vs sohc like prev. gens. the new v6 DO NOT need premium fuel.. but if you do put preminum fuel, u will gain the benefit. the knock sensor recognizes the fuel and it raised the compression = 10hp more!

but now that i own a v6 i dont think i can ever go back unless the i4 series engines get better

Another Wow! It's amazing that the honda engineers figured out how to develop an engine with 2 different sets of crankshafts connecting rods and pistons to compensate for premium fuel.

Need to get those guys over to NASA quick!

Umm should have noted the sarcasm.

You can't increase the compression ratio without changing those items I mentioned.

Just mearly pointing out that I smell Bullsh!t

Well, atcually you can. I think volvo came out with a variable compression engine; it does it by tilting the head at different angles. I know that there is a variable copression engine out there; i've read about it in various car magazines like Car and Driver, and in popular mechanics. I will ahve to look for a link to an online source.

EDIT: its actually sabb:

Cool technology, but it's not in an accord and I'm glad it's in nothing I would ever own. Sounds increadibly exensive and very unreliable.

It doesn't change the CR, the engine has knock sensors and will advance/retard ignition based on fuel.

That I know. If that is what he said to start with I wouldn't have given him such a hard time. And it doesn't actually detect the fuel. Just how the combustion has been taking place and makes minute alteration to the timming that the coils fire depending on past performance.

Damn. That V6 gets better mileage then my 4-banger;):p
