looking for a new 05 4dr sedan in the $20-25k range, I test drove the Accord 2.4 4cyl and 3.0 V6, and liked the V6 better for more horsepower. But it seems like most people are buying the 4cyl instead of V6, is it because vtec in the 4banger? or there is something technologically wrong with the V6 that I don't know about? What else is a good choice in the $20-25k range other than Accord and Camry that I might overlook?

My friend bought a v6 accord coupe, he just told me recently that he wishes he had bought the I-4 because of better mileage and less gas.

It's because the 4 cylinder is cheaper and adequate. This is the same situaion for both the Camry and Altima.

Because they're cheaper and in general (not universally), Americans would rather not pay the premium for more horsepower

I think more than anything it has to do with what it is you're buying. The I-4 in the Accord and Camry get better gas mileage, are easier to maintain, and generally provide enough power for the people looking to buy these (get-from-point-A-to-point-B-type people). The V6 does provide more horsepower, at the expense of poorer fuel economy. I think most people that buy this car aren't looking for high performance--they're looking for a good, economical car.

I guess the cheaper price is a big determining factor, we are trading in a 01 solara 4banger, and the lack of power and 2dr are the reasons we are trading it in.

4 cylinder accord with 5 speed auto is plenty fast. That's the one I would get. Accord is A-B transportation, so no point optioning it out like a sports car. :)

no... not really

it's more like saying "why do people buy more 360 Modena's than 360 CS's"

And just how in fvck's name did you come to that conclusion? He's comparing two different engines of one model of a car. Not two completely different companies, whose aims are completely different.

Expensive. An Accord LX (or if they do the Special Edition anymore) is well equipped. You can get it for about $20k with automatic. V6 is around a $1,500 option. If you go buy pure MSRP price, it's about $3k more.
